It does what I will need it to do. I am running windows xp x64. The drivers on the cd and Sabrent's website didn't function and windows was unable to download them. I am curious as to whether consumer help would have been capable to aid me had I contacted them. I bought this a single due to the fact it has female screw connections like the serial port on a pc would have. My cable screws in perfectly for a secure connection. installation can be a discomfort for win xp x64 Like yet another reviewer mentioned, the most up-to-date drivers can be found here: http://www.prolific.com.tw/Eng/downloads.asp?ID៳

* Transparent operation* Simple driver set up on XP* Fantastic heavy-duty cable* Unbeatable NEWEGG ordering and help!! none I am working with this cable on an Acer 1 Aspire netbook running Windows XP, upgrading from an older laptop (Dell D620) that has a serial port. Install the driver initial, the plug in the cable; the laptop will locate it and make a serial port if required. The SABRENT cable gives a USB to serial connection to my homebrew serial-to-TTL converter for a Parallax servo controller. I installed the driver on two various laptops: an older Dell that currently had a serial port (Com1) created a new "Com4" serial port, the other laptop (new Acer netbook with no serial port) developed a new "Com3" serial port. I am using numerous development applications and they all play promptly and beautifully with the new ports. Immediately after reading other testimonials I thought it would take some tweaking to get this conversion to work but it didn't take any at all. Oh yeah, as usual, Newegg had the cable right here quickly -- Newegg rocks!

Received item and loaded drivers for my laptop XP,cable is plenty long sufficient for my project.Had to uncover right pinouts on the USB port for using it on my TNC modem, because my new laptop didn't have a serial port on the technique. none Would have been nice from the manufacture to have a small fundamental pinouts for the serial port ends to apply such projects as a reference instead of googling the internet web sites for right pin places.

Completely PnP. Straightforward set up and operates flawlessly. No difficulties with other USB devices. The screws on the 232 finish of the cable are male. And the screws on the finish of the printer cable are male also. It's not a large deal, but... /sigh Newegg had it's usual superior delivery time.

Usually functions the very first time it is plugged in. I use this for a OBDII auto code reader. With Windows 7 on my Laptop now I had to go to sabrent and download the driver, but Kudos to Sabrent, They had my driver waiting! Some other corporations need to have to take a lesson - Great solutions that constantly operate and drivers to preserve it going. The most significant con is that not all organizations can make a wonderful item like this. Go SABRENT! Thank you for the Windows 7 driver. Oh yeah, a gender bender would be nice to add to the package. It would be worth the added buck or so.

Installed without having difficulties. Recognized by personal computer. I am utilizing this serial to USB adapter with a Vehicle Code scanner to connect my Computer to cars for engine diagnosis. Cable works like it is supposed to with Windows XP. Cheap. Not confident if it will perform with Windows Vista. This is not really a con--this goes the exact same for all present hardware.

Operates as a common serial port. Easy driver installation. Great Price None that I know of. I have only really utilised this for connecting to an old PIC microcontroller programmer, and it functions fine. I have no cause to believe it won't perform for anything else. Just shows up as COM4.

was recognized right away. My software that demands a serial port functions. I perform for a security and data corporation and this device appears to be a negative pick for the use that I need. My difficulties with the device may have been in a position to be solved but I don't have the company time to invest on attempting to fix it. I purchased a cables unlimited adapter and it appears to be capable to do the job so far. For the added four dollars I would go with that one if you are searching for a fantastic item for security panels. I will write a evaluation for the Cables Unlimited when I have tested it with many panels. Oh yeah the testing pc was a Asus 1000He operating XP pro

Functions. If you will need an extension for a serial cable, NewEgg does not appear to sell these. However, this adapter was offered and possibly for about what an extension cable would have expense I get an added serial port on the method. None, If a serial cable extension had been readily available I would have purchased it. A church projector has a remote handle cable that also connects to tthe serial port of the Computer. The remote control cable runs into a serial connecctor and a second one particular runs from the very same connector to the projector. Why? Perhaps there is a way to manage the projector by way of the Computer. Perhaps it taps into the Pc power. Whatever, I felt I must keep the connection but to do that I needed to extend the cable. This worked as a substitute for a serial extension cable.

Comment:
Bought a pair of these for carrying out some firmware programming on an old device. Appears to operate for basic serial communication. Does not work for the application I'm employing. Possibly related to how the driver handles hardware flow control, and/or how the RX/TX/GND lines are handled in the USB to RS232 conversion. This problem irrelevant although for most users. Completely no identifying attributes on the device. A year later when you've lost the packaging and CD, and can't don\'t forget the brand of the cable, great luck discovering drivers because the OS doesn't determine it automatically if the driver hasn't previously been installed.

they do what you want them to do, make a usb port work with a 9 pin. handy for those network switches and routers that still refuse to modify to usb and what not. also functions wonderful with windows 7 x64, which is fantastic for what i need. drivers can be a small tricky to locate either iso the cd that comes with it or plan on some driver roulette if you rebuild. had a staples unit that i had to get in a pinch, stated it was window 7 compliant, it was but only 32-bit -- that was embarrassing to borrow the consumer's notebook to get the job carried out. don't end up like i did, get this unit.
