Sabrent IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 to Serial ATA Port Mini Converter
Comment:
It's smaller, and fits on the back of the drive. It certainly enables the drives to be employed as an IDE device, nonetheless you can\'t boot an OS from 1 of these devices. I bought this to cost-free up a SATA port on my M/B. Hence, attached to my Blu-Ray/DVD/CD-ROM it allowed me to access the drive as an IDE device. Even so, it was not achievable to successfully boot from the device. For me, this is useless. If you just want to address some drives as an IDE device to no cost up ports then this works. If you're attempting to boot, then this won't function for you. Several folks are having issues with jumpers and so on. It appears to be variable but mine came set as SLAVE. If you appear seriously carefully, you need to have a superior light source, you can read the matrix and pin assignments for the jumpers on the board.

Bad product
Comment:
It would see the drive, but computer wouldn't boot. Sometimes it would say the hard drive was bad even though I knew differently. I don't recommend this product.

Doesn't really work
Comment:
It allowed my sata drive to be detected by the bios, and I was even able to boot from it once in a blue moon -- and even work on it on even rarer occasions -- but more often than not, it freezes, locks up -- the reading, writing was simply FAR too unstable to use in any serious manner.

I purchased it for my SATA DVD-ROM, it installed was simple, had to test jumpers, but once past that no worries.

Would not work
Comment:
I purchased this item so that I could install a SATA drive as a slave. I clould not get my computer to recognize the added drive, regardless of jumper settings, configuration, etc.

It works
Comment:
It works like the version 1 that it is. I should have researched this out more before buying as I use it on a Blu-Ray ROM. Version 3 is four times faster which would have been a better choice. I don't remember if the version number was mentioned but it is stated on the box. I could have bought faster for a couple more bucks

Lacking on documentation, but plugged it in and it worked. Allows me to use the SATA drives in my older PC. Perfect for what I need.

Functions, but with caveats
Comment:
Purchased unit to add to SATA drive to retro into IDE box. The only way to get the computer to see both drives was to remove all master and slave jumpers and system now sees SATA as master, system disk is now slave. There is a Windows error on startup, but everything still works. I called their tech support line and they said the office was closed at 3:29pm PST, even though the message says they're open until 5:00pm PST.

Clever product that doesn't really work
Comment:
Purchased this to add a 1Tb sata drive to an old Shuttle XPC. Was delighted when the system saw and then formatted the drive. All of this was done with the cover off of the Shuttle. Buttoned everything back up. Approx. 30 minutes later the drive was no longer visible to the system. Shut everything down, let the system cool a bit and the drive was visible on reboot. As the system warmed up (it's a small case) the drive disappeared again. Returning this product as it seems to be overly heat sensitive and, therefore, not reliable.

couldnt get it to work on
Comment:
I tried to get this to work in my wifes computer with an IDE cable and a SATA optical drive and it would only read discs once in a while and would freeze up most of the time. The drive was fine i put the drive in my computer with sata cable hookup and drive is fine converter not worth the time on optical drive

You get what you pay for
Comment:
Haven't had much trouble with it. Installation was easy since I'm familiar with desktop hardware. It was not a problem to figure out ''which way it should go'' because of the design which is based off of the back of a hard drive. At times it seems that the transfer maybe a little slow but I'm willing to bet that's either a hard drive or memory issue. I was replacing a burned out IDE HD with a SATA 1TB HD using this board to connect the two.

After the third one, I got one that worked.
Comment:
Not sure about the quality of the converter but I cannot say enough about the quality of Tiger Direct Staff. They are great!! I went through three converts before I got one that worked. Tiger Direct was very polite and helpful. They simply replaced the item until I received one that worked. The third one lit up and my hard drive works great. I am satisfied!

I bought this device to allow me to use an SATA drive in an IDE system I was rebuilding. It did not work. It looked like it might but would fail while copying files for the OS.

Does what it says it does
Comment:
The converter did what it says it does. The only thing that was a problem form me is, I work on a lot of computers, many older. So taking the converter on and off multiple times is not considered. The first one broke from the pushing and pulling. Ok if you only plug and play for one hard drive.

Sabrent IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 to Serial ATA Port Mini Converter
Comment:
This product did NOT work with a Sony DVD-RW. And, since it did not come with directions, it required a lot of putzing around. Eventually, I managed to get my computer to recognize the SATA drive, only to lock up trying to access it. I presume it may have had something to do with the jumper switch, but I didn't have another 4 hours to waste. Horrible product.

I bought two of these to use with my DiskJockey (IDE) drive duplicator. Now I can dupe SATA drives for our machines using an embedded LINUX app. P.S.: Note to ''JC'', I have never met an ''IT Administrator'' that knew anything about computers...

Sabrent IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 to Serial ATA Port Mini Converter
Comment:
Received 2 adapters in my first order. Used them with Hard Drives: No problems. Ordered 3 more. One of those did not have the middle prong clipped off and thus could not be connected to an IDE cable. None of the adapters worked with a Samsung DVD writer: it either did not boot at all or else froze the system shortly after the boot. None of the adapters contained instructions. I contacted Sabrent via the support form on their website three times within 3 weeks but never received any acknowledgment of my support request and, of course, no answer. While they do provide a support phone number, it's not toll-free and I was not about to sit on hold on my own dime - so I never tried that route. I suggest staying away from this product and from this vendor. Sometimes the product works but when it doesn't, don't expect any help from Sabrent.

Comment:
No documentation and it didn't work the way I expected. But, go into ''Computer Management'' by right-clicking ''My Computer'' and selecting ''Manage'', then chose ''Disk Management''. You can then allocate a partition on the drive and format it. Warning: The system WILL NOT boot from this drive.

Worked as advertised. I just hooked up a 1TB SATA Seagate to my old IDE system, rebooted, formatted disc and it's been working fine.
