Sabrent IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 to Serial ATA Port Mini Converter

Here's what I did to make this thing work for me. Take it with a grain of salt, but my IDE DVD drive is now a converted and functioning SATA drive with this device! As the other posts mentioned, there's no documentation. At first, I thought the mini power connector and SATA cable were all that I needed, but the drive didn't even power up. So I plugged in a regular large power connector directly to the drive (as before) in addition to the mini power cable and SATA data cable on the card. That powered the drive but it still couldn't be detected by the system. So I looked at the picture on the box and noticed that the jumper setting on the card I received was not what the box showed! I changed the jumper setting to match the picture on the box and now my DVD drive works fine (at least well enough to install all the other drivers for my new motherboard with its single IDE controller). My DVD drive's jumper is also set to master, but I don't know if that is a factor.

The two converters I got were never functional. I gave them to a college IT administrator and a Dell Technician and they never got it to work. The last time I tried the device my computer stopped recognizing any regular SATA drive and now I am having to replace my motherboard. Previously I ordered two of these devices from Hong Kong and they never worked either. These things are worthless.

I can describe my experience with sabrent products in one word, frustrating. Nothing works, it did NOT come with any instructions, it did NOT come with the power cord adapter, I had to make my own, and even on the manufacturer's web site, it does not offer any support, instructions, etc. DO NOT EVER buy a Sabrent product unless you consider it a donation. I have been a systems engineer for over 30 years, and this product takes the cake when it comes to being completely worthless.

My machine would have occasional problems booting up after I connected this drive. The event log confirmed some disk errors. Its too flakey for me....

To start with, I have a lite-on 20x DVD/CD writer with lightscride .Well, it came today . My PC thinks it has two masters, no matter where I put the plug. It will play movies and show pictures..Don't know about the lightscribe yet.Funny thing is it works with Inter Actual player and not Cyberlink Power DVD. As soon as I do a litte more home work on this I'll come back to add more.

i bought 3 ide/sata adapters.. NONE work in my xp pro machine.. duplicated the misery i had trying your tv tuner/capture card... tried with segate and maxtor drives that i KNOW are good. and the native sata drives ARE recognized.. notice this particular one is NOT the one shown... good reason.. doesnt work. thank you for demonstrating that in the future i absolutely will not buy sabrent anything and am posting this experience to tiger direct.. ps.. i enjoyed the idea that i get to pay for the tech support call to califunny.. which isnt very funny. thank you.... richard

This adapter will not work on Samsung CD-ROM R/W drives. After finally isolating the problem on a new build, it turned out that this adapter locks up the entire boot sequence when connected to my Samsung drive. It did work on a DVD R/W drive in the same configuration, but I need this extra drive. So it looks like it's going to be an IDE card. Oh well.
