Operates for me below Vista, so now I can continue to use my old faithful HP LaserJet 5MǛMP printer. Fantastic item - saved me having to obtain a new printer or trying to locate a Vista-compatible parallel port card and trying to get that to run in Vista! Directions for Vista had been not integrated in the product package. It is Important that you adhere to the installation guidelines Exactly as shown on the vendor's internet page for this Sabrent "USB-DB25F" cable.http://www.sabrent.com/products/specs/USB-DB25F.htmYou could will need to very first set up the printer beneath the Control Panel - printers page. This worked for me. YMMV.

I purchased this adapter cable soon after reading other's evaluations that it got their old HP 4L printer up and going flawlessly (long live the 4L). True to the reviews, you plug the cable in and the magic occurs--if you skip all the pilot errors a particular person like me can engineer in. So, beneath are some recommendations for the HP 4L users that are apparent to techies, but for me was a slow slog of trial and errors for me to catch on to. But now, the 4L is up and printing flawlessly! Now, to prevent my errors, see beneath . . . Own pilot error which I sooner or later corrected. OS Windows XP. Start with the laptop or computer off and the printer off. Attach cable to the printer but NOT the computer. Turn on printer *First* and *do not* attach the printer cable to the pc. Turn on personal computer and let it land on the desktop screen. Now plug the USB cable into the computer system. Wait a minute or two. The computer will find new hardware. Comply with the onscreen installation wizard. Accomplished! Didn't even will need to use the cable's enclosed CD disk or search for the printer's installation software program.I came to this easy fix right after burning by means of hours of troubleshooting. I know the above steps may be apparent to 90% of you, but I believed I'd speak up for us earnest ten percenters who plug almost everything in at when, cross their fingers and hope for the ideal. I hope this prevents you from pondering the cable isn't operating or that you have to junk your old printer. And I hope I just bought myself yet another decade+ of use out of the the awesome 4L.

I guess it functions for some people today Didn't work for me on my HP Photosmart 1000 on a custom construct. Windows XP sees it and it sets it as a virtual parallel port but I was not able to get it to perform because the add printer wizard just does not come across the printer.

It worked as intended straight out of the box. XP Pro found driver automatically, no will need for the driver disk. My old HP LaserJet 6P operates without having issue utilizing this. Driver disk was one particular of these smaller 8 cm disks. Didn't need to have the driver disk, so the size of the disk was definitely a non-aspect.

occasionally it functions at times it doesn't operate I used this cable to attach my HP laserjet 6P printer to my new Dell computer system. Most of the time it functions OK, but at times the laptop or computer doesn't recognize the printer. Unplugging the cable and plugging it once again appears to fix this when it occurs. I most likely won't send the cable back, but its annoying.

affordable, allowed me to use my older printer with a new Pc, the printer is wonderful, really dependable and I didnt want to have to ditch it I utilized this cord to connect a HP Laser Jet 6P to my Dell Vostro Pc operating XP SP2. By installing the adapter cord 1st and then hooking it up to my printer I was initially able to get it to operate. After that, it fairly substantially works. I can print but I have to unplug the cord and plug it back in once more Each TIME I turn my laptop or computer on in order to get windows to recognize the printer. Incredibly annoying, but tolerable. After seven months of this, I disconnected every little thing from my computer system to move it. And when I hooked the printer back up, it didnt work. I had to delete the printer port in device manager, download a driver for the cord from the sabrent website, AND delete and reinstall the driver for the printer. Waste of time. And I'm still not certain if it will function tomorrow. Possibly you ought to get one thing else.........

Printer will print a test page This adapter does not do what I expected it to. I thought I'd get a LPT/parallel port which I could also use for other items (not just printers). It does not do that - I can only use it to connect a parallel printer, nothing else.Installation instructions on the driver CD are mostly useless. Verify the product page of the organization itself, it explains the installation superior. It took me a though to figure out how to modify a preinstalled printer to use the "USB printing support" "USB001" port that this device adds. It is not merely a matter of plugging in a printer and hope it will be recognized and setup as if it were a USB printer. Would not have purchased this certain cable if I had identified it is certain to parallel printers and does not add a generic LPT port by way of USB to my laptop.

Built a new personal computer for the wife but did not notice it did not have a parallel printer port. Her old HP 2000C still functions excellent, so I was stuck. This item came to the rescue. It was quite substantially plug and play. Windows XP recognized the printer and was able to produce a test print page in color no challenge. Wife has now printed various complete color photos and says it seems just as quick as it was with the old pc. None. If you want to connect your old parallel printer and don't have a parallel port, this connects to the finish of your existing parallel printer cable and then to a USB port on your computer. Difficulty solved!

Effectively connected my old high-priced wide format HP parallel cable ink jet printer to a usb port on my new laptop. Extremely economical. You have to ignore Windows prompts to set up on LPT1 and choose a USB from a drop-down list through installation.

Performs fine. I couldn't add a card in my Computer so this saved the day. I couldn't get it to operate correct away. Reading the reviews saying they couldn't get it to perform practically had me giving up. I went into Device Manager and Universal serial buss controllers and changed the USB it was on and it worked. Don't give up, it does operate with a tiny work. I didn't use the CD that came with it.

if it did what it was supposed to do, it would be fantastic. I plugged it in to two diverse computers, neither recognized the attached HP Laserjet five printer that I was attempting to use this cable with. It's possible that model of printer just will never ever operate, but it's also doable this cable doesn't operate with all printers, and it's also possible this cable was just defective. tough to say, but the basic details stay -- it didn't operate, when this is a rather uncomplicated hardware connection that need to be effortless. i'll be returning it and trying a different cable -- just out of principle, not that it's going to be any less expensive to have to pay shipping to send it back and then buy one more cable and pay for that shipping.

operates with my HP Laser Jet 4050 laser printer changing from the normal parallel connection to a usb connection. Recognizes printer proper away in xp pro, and vista property premium just as if it was a usb printer. can connect/disconnect w/o powering down the Pc unlike if I was nonetheless employing a parallel connection. very good transfer rate from Computer to printer. works with printer sharing. easy to disconnect/connect from one particular Pc to a different without power cycle. Over all works nicely! cant appear to do a bi-directional connection, cant upgrade printer firmware by means of this cable because of that, it could be the truth that the printer is practically ten years old, but i by no means tried it by means of the parallel port either, so once again it may just be the printer. other than that no complaints! wish it was longer, usb really limits you to around 10 feet without having the use of a usb repeater, even with usb two., hope they can make an improvement in that aspect.

Good value. None. Bought cable to hook up old parallel printer to usb only laptop. Printer is HP 1100 parallel to Dell Inspiron 1525 Core two Duo running Windows.
