Picked this up on sale and put it into an external enclosure to back-up files from my computer. Transfered just under a terabyte of data with no problems. I'm not sure how long it took as I went to work right afterwards as it said it would be a few hours. I was transfering from one slow drive to another. Great buy if you need storage. |

I've got four 7200rpm 500gb Sata II drives in my pc, 1 every single by Hitachi, Maxtor, and two Seagates. I utilized HD Tune Pro v4.6 to benchmark all my drives to figure out which would be applied for my boot drive. You could hear each of the 500gb 7200rpm drives during the tests.Now for what surprised me, the new Seagate 2TB drive blew all of them away in benchmarks in spite of running slower, cooler and A lot quieter. I could not even hear the new drive more than my fans with the test operating. My old drives all ran at about 40C to 45C whilst this new drive began out at 25C and slowly got up to a max of 30C though running burn in tests. So, it is quickly, quiet, and cool operating! And I got it for .99 with free shipping, it arrived the next morning since I live only 260 miles from the Memphis distribution center. No cons definitely, but I have no long term reliability results since I just got it. My other drives have lasted three - 4 years every single and are nonetheless running fine. Hopefully this new drive will prove to be as reliable. It runs a lot cooler, and spins slower, so logically it really should last longer....at least I feel it really should. Reading Challenging drive reviews can be scary with all the DOA and early failed drive reviews. But I keep in mind that probably 90% of men and women obtaining a bad drive will post a negative assessment, whilst I'm guessing that 90% of individuals acquiring a good drive never ever bother to post a assessment. Hard drives are hit and miss, and this one functions fine for me so far. This drive is slightly better and cheaper than the WD green drives. I have owned both Seagate and WD drives, and they are more or less the same quality and reliability. This drive is only good for a secondary storage drive, the WD Black drives are the only drive you should be using for a primary OS drive (unless you spend the $$$ and take a risk on a SSD). |

Quiet, low power draw, rapidly & responsive, SATA three, 3 year warranty. I wish all the HD producers would go back to five year warranties. I do IT work and have private, small biz customers. For customers with 10 or much less PCs, I set up a lot of them with small NAS boxes for file backup, biz continuity or perhaps as an simply managed file server.踰 for a nice Synology DS box, 4 or five of these drives and for under my clients have every thing they need to have! Almost headaches, waaay cheaper than a 2008 server setup and only consuming 40-50 watts of power throughout peak times. Quiet, tiny and high return on investment.I am not a fan boy or anything but Seagate drives have generally served me well. Never ever had any difficulties that were not typical to the industry. Feel WD is excellent? They have issues too, they do fail, they do go weird. ALL HDs can suffer these issues.There is nothing wrong with these drives. They perform well, run quiet, give off way much less heat than a 7200 RPM drive and have 2TBs of storage!!!!! |
