Rapidly drive. Once the drive has time to optimize itself, its really quick and boot instances are decreased. often used apps load rapidly too. the drive isnt truly nicely-suited to audio function. Im using this in a Macbook Pro 17" i7 with Logic Pro, and the program regularly throws errors about the disk getting too slow for the duration of playback and recording. I believe its some thing with the drive attempting to move the audio data into the flash memory section although its getting read and it causes the errors. It also throws errors with specific kinds of copy protection causing you to have to reinstall your plugins following a handful of uses. This would be a great drive for normal everyday users but it just doesnt work nicely for audio work. it's not my particular unit either; google "momentus xt audio complications" and you'll get a ton of results on the topic. sadly i'll be going back to my original plain 7200rpm drive until I can afford a larger SSD.

This difficult drive is every little thing it claimed to be. It improved the speed of my computer by 10 fold. Also keep in mind my sony vaio is a tiny more than a year old and has a 2.80 t9000 cpu processor with 4 gbs ddr2 ram which was the most recent at the time. This only factor was i had broughten a 5400 rpm 500gb drive while buying the laptop which i now understand is a mistake.. When you 1st install the drive it can be pretty loud and in my opnioun makes your cpu and memory run far more...because i have a vaio the drive is on the right side of the trackpad which vibrates really a bit. General the pros of this drive outweigh the cons. My compter speed knowledgeable a major step up !!

Ran a PCMark benchmark on my stock 5400rpm drive vs hybrid drive. The 5400 scored 2300 points the hybrid drive scored 5300 points. BY FAR More rapidly. There wasnt as noticable of a battery life reduction as i was expecting either. none I did get a single negative drive that the SSD portion was corrupted and the pc would lock up every couple hours. If that takes place to you just exchange it for a new one.

I replaced the smaller 5400 RPM drive in my Dell Inspiron 1720 with this 500gb model. The performance benefits are very noticeable especially in the time it takes to switch between users (Vista) and when shutting down and restarting. Granted, the original drive was running out of space which would impact performance but nonetheless, I am very satisfied.

Really rapidly, no impact on battery, quiet. Locks up my program intermittently, forcing a challenging shutdown.Program cannot enter sleep by way of power saving attributes. If I force it to sleep it functions fine. MacBook Pro 13 񢉙) 2.26GHz with 8GB Memory. I was employing the official SD25 firmware as nicely. Very disappointed but will move on.

Speedy small thing on usual tasks. Laptop or computer undoubtedly boots and shuts down quicker in both Mac and Windows (on a Mac Powerbook Pro 17" circa 2008). Runs cooler than my old drive (IE the internal fan doesn't kick on practically as usually). Very quiet. Plan installation appears to take a bit longer. This drive boots up quick. Load occasions for most purposes are quickly. More affordable than an SSD. Not quite what I was expecting. Somewhat noisy compared to other 7200 RPM drives. A bit far more vibration as properly. At about twice the price of a similarly sized standard 7200 RPM HDD, this drive doesn't appear to put out anyplace near twice the efficiency. I am operating this drive on a 2011 13" MacBook Pro, and I haven't had any of the significant difficulties that several appear to have. Battery life is close to what it was with the stock drive.

Extremely speedy. I do a lot of programming in LabVIEW and the splash screen that employed to take five-6 seconds on my old 5,400rpm drive is now on the screen and gone in much less than a second. I've recorded Windows 7 64 boots in as little as 26 seconds as well, but that was only following rebooting it four times in a row just to see how quickly it could get. I get real globe boots of about 45 seconds now that it is acclimated to my typical program usage and not repeated reboots. Saw a noticeable drop in battery life compared to the 320GB WD five,400RPM drive it replaced. Not unexpected, but some thing to take into account if you aren't conscious that greater rpm normally = more power draw. Be sure to upgrade to the newest firmware to stay away from any problems. I did this first thing right after imaging my old drive more than so I'm not sure just how negative the issues are.Had this in my method for 8 months now, no troubles, no funny sounds or clicking, just a solid, well performing drive. Strategy on buying another 1 soon.

It works. Occasionally get a 'OS boot disk not found' error on boot of my hp tx2 laptop. Rebooting the personal computer fixes it (so far...) Speed increases more than my 160GB 5400RPM drive are present, but not as noticeable as i had expected. I waited to write this assessment (purchased in August) hoping that the speed distinction would be additional pronounced immediately after use, but the big increase by no means came ... If i could do it over once again, i'd leave the 160GB drive alone. I actually didn't need to have the added storage space, and the marginal speed boost wasn't worth the income.

Fastest information transfer, close to invisible operation comparable to pure solid state. Quiet/Near Silent, much more battery effective. Took a enormous load off my processor (from several 100% spikes to a nominal .02% usage with spikes up to 60%, and although I was only using 40% memory prior I use only 12% now. This drive increased the overall efficiency of my machine, freeing up memory and maximizing processor possible. Overall Superior Obtain. Still a bit warm, but significantly cooler than the mere 7200 RPM challenging-disk. Other than that, seemless install. Programs had been loaded numerous times more rapidly. Also, I purchased this from newegg last week for 贗.99, and now it's 贍.99 (definate con). I'm hoping newegg will read this and give me a shop credit or one thing. I previously posted a evaluation stating that this drive caused my MacBook Pro 13" (mid-2009) to freeze up. It turns out that was caused by poor memory. I can confidently state that this drive works just fine with my system with the exception of the below minor con. I have noticed increased speed, definitely no noise, and am quite satisfied with this obtain. The system nonetheless cannot go to sleep on its own utilizing this drive. Not really a massive deal if you tell the pc to go to sleep. Extremely Quick, decent capacity, dead silent, 4gb SSD hybrid. Not a con as significantly as an annoyance with how tough drives can be passed off as 500gb when it is clearly 465gb. 35gb seems too substantially of a give. Drive is wonderful, SSD gets quicker as it learns your most accessed files, thats accomplished independently from the OS.

As other critiques have noted, the initially boot up is "normal" time, but after that it was fairly quickly on boot. I'd have gone at least four, if not 5, eggs, but the vibration at speed drove me nuts. I have taken it out of the laptop mainly because it was continually vibrating on my lap, and putting it on a table or desk, the surface seemed to resonate with the spinning disk, and made it a lot noisier than my old disk. I don't know if it is the 7200 speed (vs. the 5400 that it was to replace), or a Seagate "feature" or just *this* Seagate example, but it will not go in my laptop since of the vibration. If Seagate makes a 5400 rpm unit, I'll reconsider it... As usual, newegg delivered on time (in fact, early)...I wish I got a commission for the folks I send your way!

When I very first bought and installed OS X on this drive, I ran a number of tests timing the reboot time for my macbook pro with Mail, Safari, iChat, and LimeChat all launching on startup. Right after a couple reboots it was quick, below 60 seconds from Apple Logo to loaded desktop. On the other hand, I don't use my macbook this way. I never ever reboot, and the applications I use are practically usually operating. I only put it to sleep and wake it back up. There is no observable difference in performance between this drive and my prior Hitachi 320G 7200k drive. This drive is *loud*. I by no means heard my previous drive. This I can hear clicking away continuously. It's faint, but distracting.The drive randomly halts Challenging for causes I can't tell. This happens 1-3x a day or so. Really fast drive, I have two of them and recently replaced the one in my laptop with a vertex 3 SSD and I can hardly tell a difference (well sometimes the SSD is REALLY fast). The newer momentus XT I bought (2 months ago) died... REALLY died. The older one has been going strong for about a year.
