Quick start out up, rapidly app loading Stutters during new information transfer/reads, makes games unplayable and the the computer system itself frustratingly challenging to use. Complications persisted even soon after firmware update.Macbook Pro 2011 High end 15" I feel like you ought to get this drive only if you are feeling lucky.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Comment:
Noticeably faster than a normal 7200 RPM difficult drive, decreasing boot times by a couple of seconds, and reducing load times of frequently employed programs. The speed increase isn't enormous. It's definitely not worth finding 1 if you already have a 7200RPM drive. A very good choice if you want something a bit faster than a standard tricky drive, but don't want to spend lots of funds on an SSD.

Comment:
Reads/writes quicker than an analogue 5400 rpm drive. Boot time decreased by about 20%. Defrags in a flash. Battery life is somewhat decreased from the 5400 rpm drive. I installed this in an Atom N550 dual core. I felt the processor did not warrant a SSD. 500 GBs seems a bit superior than the 64 GBs I would have got with the exact same funds. And I do not take into account the drive to be a major factor in the speed of the computer. On boot, the processor runs at 100%, max frequency for the majority of the boot time. So this drive provides the program a run for the dollars a small much better than the 5400 rpm drive.

Incredibly quickly, lots of storage. none. Installed in a Macbook to replace a 5400rpm drive and not only did I notice a dramatic enhance in boot times but overall operations are much faster. Highly recommended.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons:Performance gains unimpressive, noisy than stock drive.

Pros:Lots of storage space, faster than a standard HDD.
Comment:
I bought this to run in my Dell Mini 1012 which came with a Seagate 5400.6 250GB HDD. This drive seems a bit quicker, but it is also much noisier, likely due to its 7200 RPMness. I ended up digging out my OCZ Summit 60GB which works great. Sadly the Sandforce SSDs don't seem to work well with the BIOS.I also discovered that dban doesn't seem to be able to erase anything but the RAM chip in this SSD. I was going to sell it but I suppose I'll keep it in the USB 3.0 case it now resides in. In that role it is spectacular. Its caching works awesome in that role as I copied a 19GB iso file to it as a test... in under two minutes! That is quicker than I could copy it between my internal Vertex 2 and WD Green 2TB. So it isn't useless after all!

Cons: none yet

Pros: seems to work the way it's supposed to
Comment:
Bought this drive on a whim to use in my desktop just to see how it would work. Haven't had any problems with it and i have not updated the firmware yet. Works well and seems to make the stuff i use a lot load faster. Haven't had any strange noises or crashes.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: Not consistent increase in speed

Pros: Quicker boot, and application loading
Comment:
I put this in my Early 2009 Macbook Unibody 13", replacing the 5400rpm 250gb. It dropped right in after doing a Superduper! copy from the old drive. It is faster especially on boot and on loading of applications. It loads Word 2008 significtanly quicker. But it is not consistent. I think the SSD loads up with the 'right' data sometimes and sometimes it is loaded something else. Not an SSD i suppose, but for the price it seems worth it as I was looking to upgrade size more than speed. Battery life is as previous. It is MORE noisy than the hitachi it replaced, especially on seek.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: Not fast as i thought, but eh i use my laptop for work anyway.Seems to use a little more battery power, runs a bit hotter than my old HD (5400rpm)

Pros: 32 mb cache,4gig nano memory flash7200rpm500 gig is plentyeasy to update  firmware
Comment:
Bought this for my aging old laptop HD. Upgraded firmware from SD 23 to SD 25 easily using my desktop. Not having any signs of the "Spindown" problems. Boot up is fast, windows is more responsive and the nano memory seems to recognize the programs i use the most. Overall it is a great product, really good for conventional laptop use. If your going to game though, just use a desktop or get an SSD for your laptop.

Cons: Try not to forget a mounting kit.

Pros: Good ammount of space, fast and reliable.
Comment:
I work in a studio, and I do home recording stuff, so I need a lot of space, and a good way to play with *.aiff files in a efficient way. This drive gives you that, the speed of the drive by itself is standart, but the cache is the advantage... well, this is why I bought it so...

Cons: didn't find some

Pros: Fast, quiet
Comment:
I wanted a hard drive replacement for my Asus G73JH-A1 for my OS and didn't want to pay for a SSD because they are too expensive and also to have a large amount of place to install my programmes and games. This hard drive is really faster then my other Seagate 7200rpm that they came with my laptop. didn't have any issue right now with it.

Comment:
Thought i would give this a try. performance is not as good as ssd drives but is better that the replace 5900 rpm drive, and has a better g shock value. Good drive for someone taking there laptop on the go and do not want to put out the money for ssd.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: -Not as fast as SSD

Pros: -Fast (I have another 320G which I have been using); though no as fast as SSD-Great Price/Performance/capacity ratio
Comment:
So many of you simply "heard" good or bad thing about this drive. Why not buy one and try it yourself? It is cheap enough now - only $90 for 500GB.I first bought a 320GB when NCIX had it on sale - sadly for $100 - this 500GB is ony $90. However, I did not regret the purchase because my laptop boots up so fast now that I feel good using it. Opening apps is almost instant.Yes, SSD drives are faster; does your own setup sustain it? If you are copying huge files from one drive to it, you are only limited by the speed of your USB - unless you have v3.0. USB 2.0 High speed max at 480 mbps. Then if you are copying thru your gigabit LAN, this drive still handles it well.Just my 2 cents.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: vibrates noticeably; questionable value vs 7200.4 500GB

Pros: nice performance;
Comment:
Bought rather impulsively to upgrade my trusty Asus F8VA, which has seen 5400.4 250GB and 7200.3 320GB Seagates.I'm happy with the performance (this drive is noticeably faster than both older Seagates), but given the ~150% price premium over the 7200.4 500GB, I would suggest most users to save the $40. (Put it this way: my guess is the 7200.4 is more than 2/3 the performance of the XT)Plus this drive vibrates more than either of my older drives. So much it rattles the keyboard if I put the laptop down on certain harder surfaces! In the end, it's a worthy upgrade for speed freaks like me, but for most, get the 7200.4 or Scorpio Black and treat yourself and/or a friend to a nice meal with the difference.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: Not Sure Yet

Pros: Hybrid SSD, Apparently Faster..
Comment:
Swapped out a 250Gig Seagate 2.5" for this in my Samsung N150 Netbook and have noticed a slight improvement. Not jumping the gun here and saying WOW yet as it's not leaps and bounds of performance so I'll leave it as that I've doubled my space for now. I do notice this drive although quiet yes is slightly louder than the stock 250Gig Seagate it replaced. If this adds up to alot less time on my 6 Cell Netbook Battery then I'll have to suck it up...not sure yet just how much this drive burns in power and hope I can still watch 2 movies on battery. I'll find out the coming weeks ahead. Otherwise, I cloned my hard drive with Acronis and popped this in, booted up slightly faster and yea...happy for now.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: -Could be a little cheaper, but you could say that about anything!-A bigger NAND would be nicer, 8GB or more-64mb cache would be nice too

Pros: -Size-32mb Cache (Most mobile drives come max with 16mb)-4GB NAND-7200rpm
Comment:
I use this in my PS3. I find it does load things quicker, especially re-loading the same levels or checkpoints. The PS3 OS feels a bit snapper as well.Drive came with firmware SD23, which apparently has issues, so it is a little annoying having to upgrade the firmware to SD24, but the process was smooth.Recommended.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: 4gb cache doesn't leave you much for other programs or applications.

Pros: Great boot times with the 4gb SSD cache kicking in. The drive operates on an algorithim that stores the files you use the most on the 4gb. This gives you great boot times that don't lag far behind SSDs.
Comment:
Got this baby on sale and I've been enjoying it ever since. This is a great drive for notebook users who want faster boo times, but don't want to make the trade-off of high price and low storage capacities of current SSDs.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: Hard to fit in a desktop case

Pros: Silent, fast, good capacity and affordable (for a disk offering SSD)
Comment:
Installed it on my desktop computer to replace an old hard drive. Very silent, unlike my previous drive. Supposed to be very fast according to many reviews... I installed Windows XP on it. I see a good speed improvement at boot up, but I must admit that my previous Windows installation was old and buggy, so it is hard to measure the real speed improvement. The only drawback is that I had difficulty to install it in my case because it is a 2.5 in drive, but I expected this problem...

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: Design Flaw: goes to sleep and doesn't wake up thanks to on-drive APM you can't permanently turn off, even with current firmware updates.

Pros: Good idea, BUT wait for the tech to mature OR the SSD prices to fall in relation to reliability. Hybrids are a dead end - Google ' Momentus XT problems' for similar experiences to mine.
Comment:
Bought drive in Nov 2010, started having issues with my Gateway 6864 FX not waking from sleep mode in Win7-64bit after 2 weeks. As it was past the 30 day NCIX return limit, I finally had to deal with Seagate for a warranty exchange. Replacement drive worked fine for a week, then did EXACT same thing... only NOW my laptop refuses to boot or save my BIOS settings. CMOS clearing, using different-brand SATA drives and tech support visits to no effect; I now have a dead drive AND a dead laptop. Thanks for a garbage product, Seagate... not to mention the 60+ hours I've wasted scouring forums, calling tech support and swapping drives.Bottom line: DO NOT BUY this hybrid drive unless you are prepared for the consequences. Cutting-edge tech sometimes means you bleed, to the extreme in my case. I'm out $$ for the drive, and $$ for my was-perfectly-fine laptop that's now a brick.Go SSD, not hybrid.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Drive 2.5IN
Cons: Not as fast as SSD

Pros: Faster than ordinary spinning platter, Bigger than SSD
Comment:
I got this to replace the internal drive of my mac mini. It works as expected: faster than a regular 2.5" HDD, not as fast as an SSD.Having 500GB of local fast storage makes using aperture much faster than running the library from my iSCSI storage machine (which was ~70MB/s depending on network traffic). I think I will recommend this to any customers who need to replace laptop HDDs out of warranty and need more space than an SSD provides.
