I found this drive to be a great improvement above the stock 250 gig 5400 rpm disk in my stock 2010 13" MBP. Much cheaper than a 240 gig SSD which wouldn't have been enough storage for me anyway. Some things seem a lot better than just a 7200 RPM drive would provide.The problem is that it constantly powers down and immediately starts up often. The computer pauses during this time. power settings in the mac os x system settings did not affect it. The solution for me is the hdapm program: http://mckinlay.net.nz/hdapm/ I set it to run at boot up and disable the auto-power down feature of the drive. I'm wary of drives constantly powering down as this can be a reason for early failure of mechanical drives.I'm still toying with the idea of taking out the optical drive from the laptop and getting a mounting bracket which would allow me to place a real SSD in its place so I can have this drive and a real SSD. In that way I could probably get by with a 120gig SSD for my virtual machines/workspace along with this 500 gig hybrid for my media files. |

I chose this over an SSD for my new system drive. I like having all my Steam games installed. My Windows boot times have cut down by a good 10 seconds. I wouldn't say that the drive is super fast but it is an improvement over my last system drive (Caviar 640gb). I may just have to buy another and raid 0 them. |

Its a good value for the price, faster boot-up than a regular hdd, but lacks the responsiveness and overall performance of an ssd. Does however help slower systems perform better IMHO.For the price, I would recommend purchasing a fast 60gb SSD to store windows, office, antivirus, and the likes, and use either the xt or a regular HDD for your games and movies. |

Bought one of them after I realized I needed over 60GB of data on my laptop; as I own a 60GB Vertex Turbo SSD on my desktop, I really wanted to have that augmented speed, but was not able to shell out such amount of money. In the end, it was a great buy and I cannot be unhappy about my purchase. The drive worked as any other drives, but delivers a crazy speed!Two months later, bought a second one for my friend... in my recommended list since then. |

It's faster than the WD Scorpio Blacks due to the SSD cache. It is a bit noisy however, as I can hear the seeking noise. Sounds like a faint hissing. |

I got this drive to use for my Acer Aspire 1810TZ, the old hard drive only 5400rpm and take sometimes to fully loading Windows 7, with this new hybrid drive the laptop boots up much faster and launching program much more smoother, it might be super-fast as real SSD but I do notice some speed boost after few reboots, only downside is that it does feel stronger vibration than before. |

The ONLY thing I like about this drive is that it is small and has the same performance as a WD Black drive. The SSD is a joke, and a hoax. I will be replacing this with a Raptor or higher end SSD when I get the money. What a waste of $140 for a mechanical drive. I am ashamed of myself for being suckered into the gimmick of Hybrid.The only good thing about this is I can put it in a laptop and have standard desktop drive performance in it. |

I just bought this hard drive when it was on sale at around $130. Its size is just like any other laptop hard drive which makes it convenient to install compared to the 1TB Itachi laptop HD which is a bit thicker, and in some cases won't fit certain laptop models. Being a hybrid drive, it seems to have stored my OS (windows 7 ultimate) on its SSD part. Booting up takes a mere average of 54-57 seconds. Booting from hibernate is even faster. I'm really happy with this product. Just don't know how long it will last. My previous drive crapped out in 3 years. |

Began to fail after 5 weeks, Spins down when not in use regardless of power saving settings, a fair first generation attempt - but not reliable.

This was a fairly good upgrade for my Macbook Pro 13.3" in theory, but after a couple days my new Macbook started crashing. After performing some system maintenance, the crashes grew less frequent, but it has gotten worse since.This drive, while showing no problems using Seagates PC diagnostic tools, did ruin the stability of my MacBook pro. After installing a 500GB 7200RPM drive instead, stability returned and performance wasn't reduced a great deal. Most importantly, after REMOVING this drive from my system and restoring a backed up version of my files / OS, I've had no crashes after several weeks.Short version: Great drive for a performance increase. Terrible for system stability in my Macbook Pro, possibly because this drive will completely power down on its own as a power saving function regardless of your power saving settings - you have NO control over this firmware function and Seagate support claims that they will not be correcting the issue in this generation. This and possibly other problems destabilized my Macbook Pro and behaved the same way in a Win XP PC. This drive will be installed in a small media PC I use as a DVR. My advice is to skip this generation, especially since Seagate told me; 'the drive is performing within expectations' and warned that if I RMA'd the drive, I would get the same one back since it passed their tests. |

The Seagate Momentus XT, hands down, has my best HDD purchase I have made -- ever. I bought 2 and put them into RAID0 as my main drive for my desktop.I have ONLY tested this in RAID0.Performance: If we ignore the adaptive memory technology, I am seeing about 10-15% speed increase when loading games, apps, etc. Windows boot times dropped from 59 seconds down to 40 with these new drives (compared to a single 500GB Seagate 7200.12). Shut down times decreased to 9 seconds, down from 30. I was getting transfer and copy rates of up to 130MB/S -- compared to 27MB/S using my old 7200.12 drive. The adaptive memory works well and offers even better speeds which begin to allow it to compete with SSDs.Price: Relative to speed and storage capacity, the pricing is amazing! Although it is a little slower than an SSD, 2 Momentus XTs in RAID0 offers up to 1TB of storage at a FRACTION of the cost.Physical Size: As these are notebook drives, they are small enough to work in both notebooks and desktops, making them even more versatile.Storage: With up to 500GB of storage, the Momentus XT can offer the best of both worlds: The speed similar to an SSD with many times the storage capacity.Great value! Simply love this drive. It has increase my boot times immensely. It recognizes program I use often and loads them more quickly. And on top of all that, it's really cheap compared to SSD. Just wish they made it in a 1 or 2 TB size.
