It operates! What else wants to be said if you're thinking of purchasing this. Sharp searching case, nice logo light when HD is becoming accessed, basic set-up in Win XP Residence. Case is much cooler than I expected when HD is running, but I didn't really give the HD a exercise. OK, there are a couple of minor tidbits but when anything functions as advertised, these amount to nitpicking. It'd be good if data cable was connected to the plug from best side considering that you have to fold the cable to push the HD far sufficient to line up the chassis mounting screws, and as connected, ther cable is a tight double-fold "S" shape. Mounting cable on leading side of plug would enable cable to fold as soon as like a "C".Also, a stop tab on the sliding chassis sort of gets in the way of the cable when you try to mount the HD to the chassis. Oh, although I don't mind the somewhat quick USB cable, I'd definitely appreciate a longer power cord. If every little thing worked as well as this, I'd be a happier particular person.

Looks cool, works. Plug n play. Can be difficult to make connections.Not USB 3..Power cable is a tiny brief. It is really a tight fit and i thought i wouldn't be able to get my HDD in. The principal problem was that my HDD's IDE port was offset from the ribbon cable of the enclosure and said cable is very brief. Had to fight with it about ten minutes to get it hooked up just right. I never want to take the HDD out and fight with that again. So if you planned to swap out numerous HDDs with this factor, i wouldn't suggest it.I wish it could draw enough energy from the USB port, meh.

She wanted an external drive and I already had a typical IDE 120GB drive laying around. No actual challenges The Short cable and energy provide issues talked about are correct - Not a massive deal

It's an aluminum drive so it's light and cool and it has a *highly* glossy finish similar to the sort you'd see on a car or truck or at least an iPod. This could be a massive issue in some setups. Have extension cords handy.

Good looking. Assembles rapidly, fits collectively good and tight. So far incredibly productive for my old three.5" IDE challenging drive. Energy provide connection on back appears a tiny low-cost. No troubles, but I wouldn't strategy on unplugging it generally. Style conscious daughter likes the appear - as activity turns the light on front from blue to pink!

This is a solid and nicely built enclosure. I ordered this as a replacement for an I/O Magic enclosure that was created really cheaply and the wiring was horribly brittle. So compared to that, this enclosure is of excellent high quality. Obtaining the tough drive in the tray was a small hard. It's a really snug fit and you nearly don't need screws to secure it. Although, I wouldn't recommend not screwing it down. Be mindful of the cables inside. It's probably finest to not have to swap drives out consistently. I extremely advise this drive enclosure. And it's in blue! Very good packaging too.

I had an old Maxtor HD that I removed from my desktop and wanted it to travel with me. I use it for operating graphic files for my consumers. My notebook and desktop recognizes it fine (Windows 98SE & XP SPǘ). The HD is rather, so this case remains really. It requires hours and hardly gets warm. Tight match with wires and sliding unit back together. Should be cautious, but not a real major concern. The initially a single I bought virtually a year ago (black). Now I'm ordering this blue 1 for a Seagate 250GB HD that I have sitting around. It appears the blue light has dimmed somewhat over time. Not sure if it is a challenge or just from age.

Good enclosure. Keeps the hard drive cool. Fashionable. Very good peformance as well. I have three of them, one particular blue, one particular black and one particular red. 2 out of the three I own, the front blue LED failed. Not at the identical time or anything, but soon after 7 months it would begin to flicker, and then POOF! Gone. I've RMA'd the blue and the red one particular, Vantec was prompt to send me a replacement for each of them. A fantastic enclosure general, I just wish I didn't have to RMA two out of the three I own, just for the LED failing. I hope the black one doesn't go out simply because it's more than a year old and out of warranty.

Just have an old and affordable 60 gig tough drive inside. I use it to back up music, pics and video files. Very fast and does a very good job. Looks real great with the front blue LED. Worked for one day and now no LED! The connecter cable to the LED looks worn!Also, there is no HDD activity light. Great sized stand. Stable, but little footprint. Will not be sending back for the LED light as it seriously does nothing at all except appear cool.

Tough - produced of robust aluminium.Quiet - No fan cooling, but the aluminium allows for lots of cooling of the drive.Setup was a breeze, rather uncomplicated to set up a drive into the bay.Rubber feet on the bottom hold the drive from vibrating against challenging surfaces maintaining it quiet and maintaining the drive from bouncing about. Nothing genuinely to mention in the cons section. Currently using this as an external backup connected to a CentOS five.4 Linux (RedHat) installation. It has supplied me no issues. The one particular annoying thing I will mention is the vivid blue indicator light that is constantly on even if there is no activity. You do not need to have to connect the light though, which is why it is not a con.

Looks incredibly nice. And extremely uncomplicated to set up. If you are not careful, you can crimp the IDE cable when connecting the challenging drive and attaching it to the case. Just be mindful of exactly where it is when you do this (we virtually crimped it beyond repair when it was accidentally shoved below the tough drive).

Uncomplicated to set up. Stated right up and have had no issues accessing it. It worked properly to access data on a drive where my primary pc has on SATA connections. I saw no place to hook the drive access light on the enclosure up to the drive itself.

Clean straightforward style, stunning, solid. Excellent little case. NewEgg and VANTEC rock. I have more than a hundred of these. The little rubber "bumps" on the bottom of the case pull off through transport ... not effortlessly .. but they do come off from time to time and that's frustrating. Another reviewer talked about poor cooling and ventilation. This case is Very best at that. It radiates the heat away through the aluminum ... cases with fans are the only circumstances I've had drives fail in. These preserve the drives COOL.

Good slender design with a solid really feel. Aluminum enclosure aids transfer heat from the HD. Front mounted activity LED. Did not function with the Pc I purchased it for. When writing files to it though connected to a PCI-card-based USB2. interface, it would go unresponsive soon after a couple of seconds. When connected to the motherboard's USB1.1 interface, it'd perform for a while (hours) but nonetheless eventually go dead in the middle of write operations. I tested it on other PCs and it works fine...go figure. I have two iRocks enclosures that look related to this one particular and both of those perform fine with the similar Computer that this Vantec has difficulty with.Also, if you have a HD that gets excessively hot, it might not get sufficient cooling in this enclosure.

I have a quantity of Vantec 2.5" enclosures just like this and have only each had to RMA one particular of them. The anodized finish looks truly sharp and they function as effectively as I could anticipate them to. The power cable on this 3.five" model doesn't have a brick to it and the AC adapter only will take a single spot on a power strip which is nice. No cons comes to thoughts. Bought this to re-commission an IDE drive from a pc that died.It looks excellent and works wonderful. No probs. Wish the ribbon was a simple IDE connector. It took some wrangling to avert the cable from bunching up and sticking out from the inside of the box.
