Worked Truly very good when it worked!quite modest. Loaded my OS from my IDE optical drive, turned off computer & later it didn't even appear in bios....พ.99+Ū.99=ม.99 (eggsaver) I don't feel it would be worth it to RMA as the subsequent would probably fail. I just hope I could get a counter credit or anything. I don't wanna spend the return shipping :( Manufacturer Response:I am sorry to hear that, but please do speak to our RMA dept so we can get that exchanged with a brand new a single. Once once more we are sorry to hear that your device isn't operating correctly. Thank you and have a nice day!External Link(s): RMA Request Form|

Good compact design and style, incorporates every thing you need (adapter, SATA cable, energy y-cable) minus whatever IDE peripheral you will be using.I am using it with a Plextor DVD drive. It works as advertised (with one particular exception, see cons under). I was a small worried about speed, but according to the Nero DiskSpeed benchmarks, the drive's functionality remained unchanged. I followed the guidelines and set the drive to Master (actually it currently was). But when I initially booted my program I skilled what other individuals have reported... my system would hang.I played with the BIOS a while to no avail. For grins I decided to modify the drive to CABLE Select to see what would take place. The laptop recognized the drive and was no longer hanging. For some explanation cable pick worked for me, but master did not. I only gave it four Stars due to the time I had to place into figuring out the issue. Also the manufacturer's internet site contains ZERO troubleshooting actions. Also terrible I didn't study the other testimonials ahead of going by way of the motions of troubleshooting. It could have saved me alot of time given that other folks have recommended to try utilizing CABLE Select as effectively...

Plugged it in and it worked! The device is smaller sized than I expected! Not substantially wider than an ide cable. Manual saysto set drive as master. But it slaved with a cable select jumper installed. none yet.

These worked with all the devices I attempted them with, both difficult disks and DVD drives. They are very uncomplicated to install, with 1 caveat talked about under. It is surprisingly effortless to plug these into the IDE connector with an offset to either side so the pins are not effectively aligned. It doesn't allow use of a SATA energy connector. You use a bulkier, normal 4-pin connector rather. The space needed by the converter plus plugged-in SATA cable implies that you will need to have at least about three inches of unobstructed space behind your drive. Misalignment of the converter to the IDE connector, the requirement for the IDE device to be jumpered as Master and the ease with which non-locking SATA connectors can come partially out of their sockets are all doable causes why some individuals have had problems get certain devices to operate.

Does what it should. Excellent tiny compact design. Manual was hidden in the packaging - tells you critical information about how your HDs should be setup. Also, SATA connector is quite loose and easy to pull out just far sufficient that the HD isn't noticed in BIOS, but the cable looks okay. A little wiggle on the cable and all is nicely. Would have liked to see these a small less expensive, but beats receiving new HDs, for now.

Now that I got it functioning, its wonderful... I can use my old IDE optical drive. Well, ahead of I loaded my OS I Needed the jumper on my DRIVE set to master for it to work effectively, after it was all loaded, turned the computer off, turned back on & it wouldnt read my drive... switched the jumper to "cable choose" then booted & it worked perfectly!!!! You may possibly have to switch from master prior to loading OS, then cable select Following.

I had one of these, that worked seamlessly (for me) each and every single time. No muss, no fuss. You plug it in correctly, it works. Period. Then, I misplaced it, got lazy, and bought not a single, but two Syba's. Never worked. Ever. 21 diverse variations of IDE device and mobo.So I was !@#$#@@$# and took the time to discover my vantec. Certain enough. Every single spot the Syba hadn't worked, the vantec Quickly was recognized by BIOS and gave me ZERO trouble. price tag. but then again, you're not saving funds if you invest five much less and finish up with an overly thick bookmark instead of paying the money for this. Next time I order, I'm certainly going to stick one more a single of these on there, just to have it around. It's so cool that with so a lot of problematic SATA to IDE adapaters out there, to have one particular that in my expertise, basically performs. and works just.Don't be a inexpensive lazy idiot like me. Granted, these are difficult devices, and there's never any guarantee. But for me? From now on? I won't be wasting my time with something else.

Put this on an older personal computer of mine. Does what is sais, hooks into the back of your IDE tough drive OR Rom drive, then comes with its own power plug you plug into it and goes to the power provide(via 4 pin molex) and then you just hook up the sata cable to the back of it and its very good to go. Had no issues just plug and play for me. None. ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe, AMD Phenom 9950 BLACK EDITION two.6GHz, Vista Ultimate 64 Bit, ASUS Radeon HD 4850, 4GB Kingston HyperX 1066, Western Digital 250GB sata, Sound Blaster Fatality, 2 DVD sata DVD burners.

I had a PATA HDD and DVD drive and only 1 IDE channel which would not take each no matter what I did. This tiny device was plug and play and it permitted me to use the difficult drive with a SATA port. The BIOS and Windows both recognized it appropriately correct away, and efficiency is just as excellent as any other setup with that drive. It scores a five.7 beneath Vista's overall performance rating and maintains just beneath 50MBps with ease. This adapter is also very little, light, and clips in fairly securely. Adapter uses a floppy power connector rather than a SATA energy connector. This wasn't an situation with me but I envision it could be with other folks. This device also did not perform with the DVD drive (yes I had it on Master), which suggests this adapter whilst broad in the range of hardware it supports is not capable to be employed with one hundred% of PATA devices out there. It's easy to plug it in incorrect, misaligning the pins. If you have difficulty your initially step should be to see if this is your concern.

Affordable. Good solution style: compact for internal use. Handy to conserve 250Mb Zip drive in a SATA-only surroundings. Great to be in a position to read many stored backup zip diskettes inexpensively. Install it and forget it. Fits a small loose. Does not fit all old IDE HDDs, CDROMs, but most. Somewhat tedious to use internally as you have to open the case, and so on. An external adapter is more handy for quick hookup of old IDE devices. Not fantastic for external use. Other merchandise abound for external use.

I have a P5EWS MB and for some reason this don't with the Marvell 88ES6145 SATA/PATA controller but they do perform with the Intel ICH9R. I was hoping to use the Marvel Controller for this but had no luck. I would provided a 5 if they function with each but because it restricted to the on controller I have to give it a four. If you plan to use old drive in a new process these need to function fine, but still just get new drives with SATA. The speed of SATA 2 is worth the money.

Wonderful item. Extremely uncomplicated to use. I bought two to make my IDE drives compatable with an upgraded mainboard and haven't had any problems. None to date. Tried an additional brand of IDE/SATA converter and it was a comprehensive piece of trash. The Vantec is the way to go.

I've been working with these for quite some time to get superior overall performance out of IDE drives in systems that support SATA. They operate excellent, never had a single dilemma. None. I do assume they're priced a little high in common. Granted, I don't know what the profit margin is on them but they can't be that costly from the distributors.

I bought 4 of these for my Seagate ST3200822A 40GB, Seagate ST340014A 200GB, and my two Seagate ST3300831A 300GB Drives. All reaching transfer rates of above 60 MB/Sec under speed tests. (Which is good improvement from the less than 50MB/Sec I got ahead of taking them off of the Promise Ultra133Tx2 IDE controller card I was using) A lot of cables due to the adapters, but it's not significantly of a con.

Fairly substantially worked ideal out of the box. Utilised on an old 250G WD Caviar IDE difficult drive with jumpers set to cable select. No true cons with the functioning of the product itself. Does what I want. Nonetheless as some others stated it sticks out a bit from the back of the drive or whatever you use, so be sure you got a excellent two inches or so of clearance if space is an situation for you. Method recognized my drive as soon as it began up, great product.

None. Didn't perform. I got this since I had an old IDE tricky drive I wanted to place in a personal computer that had no IDE connections so I could get data off it. The computer never ever recognized the tough drive. I attempted all jumper settings such as no jumper settings. The hard drive was powered and the computer could inform some thing new was connected since with each and every jumper setting setup the computer would hang in the course of start out up. As soon as it finally began up the computer system never saw the tough drive. I wasted my cash on this.

sleek design, fits in the CPU box (i have DELL optiplex gx280), functionally works excellent the package did not come with SATA power plug - 4Pin IDE to 15Pin SATA. which i think need to have been integrated. i had to purchase it separate and wait for yet another 7 days to ship.

Does specifically what it says. It was employed to connect a IDE HDD to a Sata only board. Poor instruction manual created me fiddle with the settings a handful of occasions ahead of the HDD was recongnized. Make confident you hook it up appropriately. It calls for you to plug in the converter as effectively was the HDD. Also, make certain your jumper is on the appropriate settings for it to perform.

This small converter does what it's suppost to do as long as its connected appropriately you should have no difficulty with this unit . The directions say to set HDD to MASTER . i have a WD 120 gig eide drive . It would'nt function that way as a SINGLE drive .Possibly if you're making use of maltable drives that is the way it performs but with a SINGLE drive the HDD directions say to eliminate the JUMPER . Idid and that worked ,So if you have a challenge not finding this converter to perform Take away the JUMPER on the drive and see if that clears up the dilemma . none

Comment:
I chosen this unit particularly since of the strong plastic shell guarding the converter from shorting out on stuff inside the pc situation, which seems to be a prevalent challenge on models without having a shell. The converter was supplied with a non-locking SATA cable, Y Power Cable, and manual. All had been packaged in a plastic & cardboard blister pack. The Y cable is an inline male-to-female significant four-pin energy plug for the drive, with a branch to the modest four-pin connector applied to energy the converter. Installation was straight forward as expected, and it appears to be working so far. I briefly tried a metal locking SATA cable which didn't look like it would fit (at least not with no forcing it) so I utilized the supplied non-locking SATA cable instead with no troubles. For those with drive issues, the converter and drive each will need to be connected to the energy provide. My power supply cables had adequate of both the large and small connector kinds that I did not want to use the Y cable. The drive also must be jumpered to be an IDE master. The converter feels like it could be simply pulled out of the IDE connector, but that is the nature of the beast because it is not versatile and as lightweight as the ribbon cable it replaces. If your situation is prone to vibration or pulling on the SATA/power cables, you may well want to consider securing the converter with a lot more than just friction inside the IDE plug (wire tie, hot glue, some sort of blocking mechanism, and so on).I bought two of these as spares in case I needed to convert some old drives to SATA in the future. I ended needing them each instantly when the IDE cable for two of my DVD drives would not reach the motherboard IDE jack in my new laptop or computer situation. So my small dollar investment solved that dilemma until a longer IDE cable can be discovered.
