Cons: - Price

Pros: - Great performance- Quiet- Stays cool
Comment:
One of the fastest SATA hard drive currently available. Great for a system drive if you do not want to go for an SSD. Great support from WD if you have any issues with it.

WD VelociRaptor 300GB Hard Drive WD3000HLFS - 10K RPM, 16MB Cache, SATA 300MB/s
Cons: To me 249$ is a bit hard to swallow for the incremental performance over a fast, modern 7200K 32M drive. I gave this 4 starts simply because of its price/performance. Here are some quick results using HD Tune 2.55 vs. my WD 750GB WD7501AALS caviar black.

Pros: The fastest consumer desktop SATA hard drive money can buy. I was expecting a bit more speed, however, all in all this is a pretty good drive. Runs very cool, cooler than my 750GB caviar black I use now as a storage drive since I got the raptor. I also think its pretty quiet for the most part as I cannot hear it over my case fans, which are of medium loudness

Very fast Very high Quality
Comment:
Just a little over 7 years ago got a first gen 36 GB raptor and it has run without a prob ever sence. So on my new build a new raptor was a must. this little thing is fast! Not as fast as my 2 SSD's in raid 0 but still holds its own. I put the SSD's as the C drive and the Raptor as a D drive for other programs like games and some meida. A few months ago I found my 500 GB WD caviar black had a few glitches when streaming videos to my PS3. Haveing changed nothing but the drive to the raptor the prob is gone. So loosen the purse strings already a buy one. It is worth it

Cons:PRICE!

Pros:Speed.Doesn't make much noise.Doesn't make much heat.

I've got two of those in RAID 0 and get 6,2 rating in Windows 7. Still, I am very satisfied of the performance of the drives.

Fastest Drive

I started with years ago with 74 gb then to 150gb and now 300 gb. Best drive for your OS and programs that are used frequently. Very fast drive. Way to go WD!!

Fastest SATA HD, super fast windows now
Comment:
Windows runs so smoothly now. Installs and boot up times are so amazingly quick, I giggle a lot now at how ridiculous it is. I can't wait to see the SSD's perform when the prices come down. If you can afford this and want to make your system do everything faster, order it as quickly as you can afford it.

WD VelociRaptor 300GB Hard Drive WD3000HLFS - 10K RPM, 16MB Cache, SATA 300MB/s
Cons:PricyA bit noisy when it's working hard

Pros:Really fastPower efficient
Comment:
It's very expensive even if it's the best sata drive. You could get a raid 0 with 2-3 Caviar Black 500-640gb and have a better performance and more space for the same price. This review was modfied by poster @ 10-11-09 08:01 PM

This is the one!!!
Comment:
I have had one of these puppies in my system running Win7 RC for about 3 months and I still cant believe how fast it is. With Win7 and this drive, boot up is approx. 15 seconds. I have just ordered a second drive to build a raid 0. Can't wait to see what that does. If you want speed (and who doesnt?) this is the drive you are looking for. It runs like a scalded dog!

WD VelociRaptor 300GB Hard Drive WD3000HLFS - 10K RPM, 16MB Cache, SATA 300MB/s
Cons:none

Pros:- Amazing speed- Very quiet- Stays cool
Comment:
This is the fastest SATA hard drive on the market. Only the new SSD drives overpower it, but they are still very expensive. This drive is also very reliable and has a great guarantee.

Cons:- expensive- expensive- expensive

Pros:- lightning fast- quiet- power efficient
Comment:
I've waited for a year for the price to come down until I can't wait anymore. It's probably the best performance SATA drive out there, although the performance gain is not linear with the price.

WD VelociRaptor 300GB Hard Drive WD3000HLFS - 10K RPM, 16MB Cache, SATA 300MB/s
Cons:-Price per GB-No comparison to an SSD. Though an SSD may come smaller in size, the speed increases, lower power consumption and cooler temperature output really make you question the validity of these rotational drives.-Cost.

Pros:-Low power consumption despite its speed.-Runs very cool for its speed.-High RPM, low access time.
Comment:
Replaced my 2 150GB Raptors in RAID 0 with one of these, and one OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD drive. The SSD drive really smokes this one, but this drive still does well as an alternate boot drive I need it for. Runs cooler and quieter, while taking less power to run than my previous Raptor drives. This is about the best you can get right now for a mechanical drive, but if you can, save up a bit more and get a decent SSD. It really is that much better.

WD VelociRaptor 300GB Hard Drive WD3000HLFS - 10K RPM, 16MB Cache, SATA 300MB/s
Cons:Price, glad it was on sale for $249.99 or I would not have purchased.

Pros:Great OS drive, fast, quiet and should be reliable.
Comment:
As fast as I expected and quieter then I expected. I am happy with this as a single drive replacement to my 2 early model Raptors in a RAID 0. Less noise, heat, power consumption yet double the space and the same speed.I purchased this as I hope it will prove to be more reliable then the early SSD's out now and I really needed the added space over SSD's.I have another system running a 1TB Seagate 7200.12 and I can't say the speed difference is noticeable. My main reason for the V-Raptor was enterprise class reliability. Also as a programmer by profession it is sometimes of benefit for some of the tasks I do.Only if the price drops will I consider buying more of these instead of going SSD. I wish the lower capacity models were not so close in price to this as to make this the only real V-Raptor it makes sense to purchase. Not going to pay $220 for 150gb when $250 will get 300gb. I won't even comment on the newer 74gb V-Raptor price. :(

WD VelociRaptor 300GB Hard Drive WD3000HLFS - 10K RPM, 16MB Cache, SATA 300MB/s
Cons:Not really worth the price premium.

Pros:Relatively quick when compared to most 7200 RPM mechanical drives. Also surprisingly quiet for a 10k RPM drive.
Comment:
I've been using Raptor drives since the original and ahve always been fairly satisfied. I'm still using this 300 GB Velociraptor on a secondary PC, but after comparing it to some of the better 1 TB HDD's out there it's clear that it's not worth the price premium.I've since moved to a SSD for my OS/Games with everything else stored on a combination of 1TB drives from Samsung and WD.

WD VelociRaptor 300GB Hard Drive WD3000HLFS - 10K RPM, 16MB Cache, SATA 300MB/s
Cons:I wish it were larger capacity, but I understand the detriment to performance that would have.

Pros:Awesome speed, no more difficult to install than any other drive.
Comment:
I really don't understand peoples complaints about noise on this, but I personally will take noisy performance over quiet crapiness anyday.Price compared to performance and storage far exceeds the cost factors for SSD's. I'm not pulling punches on cost, and I'm still unwilling to fork over the cost for an SSD, so the Velociraptor is the drive of choice. This review was modfied by poster @ 04-20-09 09:00 PM

Cons:Price, SSD offer better performance

Pros:2.5'' form factor, Quiet, Fast
Comment:
I bought that on sale for 249$ I like the performance on Vista, fast loading on everything. It's much better to buy a SSD but if you want a useless gadget to improve performance, this for you. IMO, it's waste of money. This review was modfied by poster @ 04-05-09 09:58 PM

I have 2 of the older Raptor X versions in my Rig running Raid 0 array. After 4 weeks of testing with & without Raid 0, I'm convinced Raid 0 is here to stay for me. My Rig is faster than ever before. I can really see the difference in game play. I just upgraded my network to 1GB/sec with the the new Linksys gigabit Router. My online lag has improved to slight to none. It depends on the game & the server config you get linked to. Bottom line, if your going to setup Raid 0 array, you may as well use these drives. It will be the fastest Raid setup you can get. I will get 2 of these soon for another Rig I built.

I don't think this is exactly the same one I bought, it just looks different but they say its the same so...this hard drive works FAST!! About as fast as your gonna fill it up to by the way, 30 gigs of the hard drive is dedicated to back up information leaving you with 270 gigs of storage (not so good). I put this bad boy into my new build and I just finished backing up information from my old computer and making all the windows updates and driver updates for all of my other hardware and that took up 200 gigs of room...leaving me with only 100 gigs. It's not so bad since I have nothing left to install on my computer out of need, anything extra from here on out are just games and those can be uninstalled once I'm done with them. Overall...Fast and Expencive but so worth it. Good Buy.

Comment:
Had one of these running for about 6 or 7 months now. Bought it as soon as it was available, for less than is now advertised (mine was like 390, listed at 415.99 now) Speeds of 38-42 mB/s are seen, i only have one so with raid you could probably see 75-80 no problem. Vista boot in appx 40 seconds. Worth the money if speed is an issue. I am likely buying a second in due time. This is probably the most bottle necked area of any PC out there and a necessary step in performance computing. SSD are too glitchy for me at the moment and this fits all my need. Great buy, thanks tigger
