CostTrustworthy solution & name you can count onStyle makes it very easily portable (bring to class every single night) I haven't had any complications with mine even though a close buddy of mine has so all I can say is make positive to warranty/RMA your item if you need to have any issues with yours as WD has wonderful client assistance. Don't wait around with your item right after locating out its poor. RMA & warranty is there for a purpose. :) I only docked an egg for finding a bad WD product. :PIt won't affect my client loyalty to them even though.

The HDD has a big capacity, capable of storing additional than most folks will ever be able to shop. Cheap too, even thinking about the transfers speeds. Transferring from a generic 500gb hard drive took a couple of hours to move about 300gb of data. Like all drives, the volume of files can drastically impact the speeds. I found that tranferring 20,000 photographs took the transfer speed down to around 8MB/s. For songs, an average 12MB/s. Videos and larger single files faired substantially superior, reaching an typical speed of 50MB/s. By way of hours of backup, the drive stayed cool to the touch and had no troubles connecting whatsoever. Slow speed - if you can even count that. A 1.5TB drive in the sub 贄 marketplace seems like a deal no matter the speeds. General, the WD 1.5TB drive does its job and does it in an inexpensive yet still incredibly desirable way. With a 3yr warranty and a cost underneath 贄, there's no reason not to have this little guy as a backup.

Worked great for a tiny more than a month. Good price tag. Stopped working just past the RMA date. Now it won't read/write, or format. It just blinks at me. I'll have to send it to WD, at least it's below warranty. In no way had a issue with WD drives prior to. Could be the dust in Afghanistan that killed it...though other individuals right here have WD drives w/out matters................

Smaller, quiet, absolutely nothing to pour coffee into because there are zero ventilation holes/slots. Big, inexpensive. Runs really hot. I'm 15% of the way via formatting it and the drive is at 120 degrees. No vent holes, the case is barely bigger than the drive, and plastic is a poor heat conductor.Takes a very loooong time to format, but I like carrying out one on each new disk I get just to give it a small workout. I've owned fairly a few external challenging drives more than the last 10+ years. The ones that preserve the drives alive the longest have a fan in them, like the antex mx-1 enclosure. Though google did a data center study that showed that high drive temps dont lead to high failure rates, they kept their drives at a relatively steady high temp by means of full time operation. Thats not the pattern with an external drive where the drive might be utilized tricky for a couple of hours and then turned off. I think the heating and expansion followed by the cooling and contraction might shorten the drive life.No holes and no metal and no fan certain does equal a quiet drive though. If you werent operating a Smart monitor on it, you'd under no circumstances know it was hot.

Comment:
The drive has a ton of room of course. For some crazy reason this 1.5TB model is less expensive than the 1TB model. Operates. Relatively quiet, but I don't thoughts tough drive noise. The drive looks nice, uncomplicated and unobtrusive, like storage should be. The My Book line of WD drives price a lot much more due to the fact of the back-up software they come pre-installed with. I advise you back up your important files on the internet for free as I do. I use this drive for all my "legitimately acquired" media. Noises coming from read/writes nonetheless don't sound like R2D2. Get on it scientists. I have something to say about the poor testimonials of this drive. The fact is challenging drives are pretty fragile. They fail far additional generally then other laptop or computer elements that DON'T have moving parts, shocking I know. New Egg packing was OK, but could have been far better. The challenging drive had two sides of its item box flush with the shipping box and they could have done much better... I don't like taking an egg off a item for packing related problems though. Also UPS explicitly says they could drop a package 6 feet throughout shipping... Fed Ex does a better job, but no a single wants to spend 20-30 bucks added for shipping when UPS is free. It's a roll of the dice, but typically it's fine. Western Digital is one of the very best if not the finest tough drive manufacturer, so as far as on the internet shoping goes, they are your safest bet.

Western Digital Elements 1.5TB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons:Hard to find anything bad to say about this USB external hard drive, except that now I want another one but the price is now 58% higher than it was when I bought the first one for $69.99 in Dec 2010.How did that happen? It's still the same hard drive, and none of the materials it's made of have suddenly become as precious as gold. So why the huge jump in price? When will the cost of these hard drives come back down?

Pros:Quiet, fast, SMART stats show consistent good performance with no degradation of critical parameters, able to withstand occasional temps in excess of 40°C, even though the drive is spec'd for 35°C max operating temp.
Comment:
Waiting for the prices to come back down to earth. Then I'll probably buy several, in different sizes.

None yet :P I have it divided into 3 partitions. A single for downloads, A single for sorted Media, and a single for Time Machine. Time Machine works quite rapid with this drive.

Operates good. rapid moving of files. greatest price. I got this and from day number a single it has passed all my expectations. none I dont realize what others are complaining about. Those that feel they know it all call it slow. This is not intenal. DUH!! I can transfer more than 100 700Mb videos in much less than 30 minutes. So what is so slow about this unit. The issue is that those who consider they know it all, believe they must blink and performed. Not even done with internal let alone external. I advise this to everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can't beat the price but... The drive has a high probability of being negative. Worse still is the reality that Newegg will not give you a complete refund. They subtracted ผ.00 from the acquire cost even even though the drive was faulty and I returned it inside 30 days. The also did not pay the บ.00 for shipping to return it. Not fair. I am disappointed in Newegg.

The replacement drive (refurb of an earlier model) appears to be operating fine. The drive failed out of the box, but WD makes you pay to send it back to them for the warranty replacement. Oh, and if you don't turn around the RMA shipment you're paying for quickly sufficient, they charge you for that too.

Have had this nicely over a year and has no signs of how significantly I've abused it. Plays all my 720p files without having a hiccup and plug and play works with every single version of windows that I have attempted (xp and newer in my case). Wonderful style with the glossy parts only on the side, they don't seem to get scratched and the matte leading is fantastic for stacking a couple of. Big data transfer is a little slow but functions excellent for what i use it for. Light and quiet, no vibration that I can tell.

Easy and simple to use tough drive with a good style. Speed is fantastic. None. Performance on the drive is just fine. No problems with speed. I did not reformat the drive so I didn't need to have to run Western Digitals "format tool' due to the cluster size modifications. Also, function locate with NetGear N600 router.

Lot's of space for somewhat inexpensive price. Needs a energy supply, though this is expected for a three.five" HDD. May possibly take it out of the enclosure and put it into my computer.
