Incredibly great drive, 900gbs of memory is excellent unless you attempt to put H/Q movies on it like i did so mine is almost full. Fantastic item for the cost. Load speed varys at times.

Western Digital Elements SE 1TB 2.5" Portable Hard Drive

I've owned this model for some time now and it accompanies two other WD Mybooks. They all function about the similar, this one lays flat even though the other people are upright. I like the mybook's a little a lot more because they have a blue LED on the front that lets you know it's on but whatever - not a large deal.Transfer speed hovers about 25mb/sec which is more than enough to play big bitrate 1080p video. It was also fairly uncomplicated to add to my network's media library and use this drive by means of a cloud server, although mainly because the drive turns off when you don't use it it does take a couple of seconds for it to spin up and files to be accessed. I've had zero complications with this drive or my other two WD external drives so I can't seriously comment on customer service excellent or anything of that nature. Folks that are "taking away an egg since I shed the usb cables" will need to assessment the product and not their own stupidity. The use of mini usb indicates that I have not had to take the cable with me when I go most locations with this drive as pretty much every person has mini usb cables laying about whether it be from their cell phone, digital camera, or other electronic devices.

Modest, 1TB, first 1 on the market? Powered via USB like most drives.. 12.5mm internal drive height makes it larger than the portable HD. Esata would have been a big plus. Can't go wrong with it.

Western Digital Elements SE 1TB 2.5" Portable Hard Drive
Cons:Very short cable

Pros:PortableSilent
Comment:
Just got mine from the mail today (got it on special for 79$). It's very portable and seems to work as expected from what I can tell. The drive connects with a micro-usb cable and it is a bit loose when plugged into the drive. The cable is also very short (19 inches long). The LED at the back of the unit seems to be flashing for no reason sometimes, not sure if that is normal. I give this 3 stars because I was not overly impressed but I am satisfied with this purchase.

Cons: not a standard usb connector on the drive, cannot be used with standard usb cables.

Pros: works like a charm, no extra external power, only takes one usb port

Great drive. Lots of storage for a 2.5in double height drive.

Western Digital Elements SE 1TB 2.5" Portable Hard Drive
Cons: flimsy micro-usb

Pros: It looks pretty nice.
Comment:
It's a 2.5 inch drive, but it's a bit thicker than lower capacity 2.5 inchers. The drive's speeds are pretty average and it looks nice enough, but nothing really sets it apart from any other 2.5" portable hdd out there. My main issue with this drive is the flimsy micro-usb connector which will cause issues eventually. The micro-usb connector is extremely loose, and it will become even more so with regular usage. It will get to the point where if you even nudge the drive while it is connected, the drive will disconnect. If it's disconnected while data is being written to it, you may experience data corruption issues. I am not the only person experiencing these issues. I know two other people who have this same issue in real life and have read more about it online. It is a common issue with these drives. I don't know why they switched to micro-usb over the old mini-usb. This drive is more than thick enough to contain a more sturdy mini-usb connection which would have solved the main issues I have had with it.In these pictures it does look like mini-usb, but it will come with the horrible micro-usb connection.Anyways the drive works (if you never move the drive while in operation, or have somebody who can hold the connector in place any time the drive is in use), but I would not purchase this over any other 2.5 inch drives on the market.

Western Digital Elements SE 1TB 2.5" Portable Hard Drive
Cons: Short USB Cable

Pros: Compact and lightUSB PoweredNo software required
Comment:
Ordered this drive for backup and transport of files from office to home. Fast access through USB 2.0 and small enough to transport easily. Love the drive and the lack of extra backup software it is simple and does what it is supposed to do.
