Excellent HD. Worked perfectly despite the UPS guy throwing it on my concrete porch. UPS abuses Newegg shipments. The packing was fine for the most portion and protected my other item in the box. The HD was wrapped poorly with bubble wrap. The complete 1 side was left exposed and against the side of the box, but it still worked. I'm certain UPS is accountable for most of the DOA drives. This drive will lead to your Window's expertise to drop to a 5.9.

I have had a previous drive for a small over a year, and it's the workhorse of my program. Good Drive, it's not the fastest, but it's a beast and created for extended life, which is my caveat. Fantastic Drive and it's quiet to boot. none

Haven't even had a opportunity to use them yet, as I'm waiting for a replacement. I'm hopeful that the Enterprise Server drives will carry out as advertised once I get them installed in my NAS box. That is if I can ever get my NAS box and drives with each other at the same time without waiting for a return! 1 was DOA, and these two replaced the Caviar Black version I had previously - one particular of which was DOA also! I'm not certain if it's the Newegg packaging that's killing these drives, or poor WD design, or manufacturing troubles. I've by no means had this significantly trouble with defective drives out of the box. And I've purchased additional than 20-30 drives over the years.I was surprised to discover two of these new server class drives in the exact same tiny box, with just a tiny bit of bubble wrap in between them. In reality, a single corner of the anti-static bag was all frayed with holes in it from the friction of the drives through shipping. Oddly adequate, the two earlier Black drives were boxed individually. Go figure. Anyway, Newegg requirements to enhance their packaging if that's at the root of these drive failures. It would be good if Newegg adopted a much better return policy too, and promptly ship a defective item just before waiting for the physical returned item. Providing the customer 2 weeks to 30 days for the returned item prior to charging them if it's not returned.

Excellent for raiding. Using in a property built BSD network server and they carry out good streaming ㅌMb bitrate with complete five.1 surround. Lifetime expectancy is remarkable and obtaining noticed the SCSI counterparts in a reside Datacenter environment I can say that they have incredible endurance. Slightly longer spin-up time than I would choose but house customers will under no circumstances truly see it and for the value you cant beat em.

Low heat, quickly spin up, storage space. I dont even think about the price a con, where else can you get an enterprise RAID rated drive with a warrantly for as lengthy as they provide for much less?My only con is they are not as quickly as SSD. I currently have 2 storage array's with 24 of these drives each for a toal of 48 drives in a climate controlled room. They have been operating 24x7 in a RAID 6 array on two Areca conrollers for more than 18 months. I have had a single array with one undesirable drive in that time, that happened about 6 months ago. WD RMA procedure is seamless. Drive's are challenging to judge by brand, some people today appear to get all the poor eggs, and some of us get no problems at all. I DO SHIP FEX EX FOR ALL OF MY DRIVES!! A Should! And this is exactly where my personal feeling is most of the drives go negative. Shipping. In my lifetime of storage and drives, I have had perhaps a dozen WD drives fail prior to replacement. And I'm talking over 1000 drives. A Wonderful Item, if you believe it's also significantly $$, go ahead and get the more affordable one and make the RAID timing modification on it. Be positive to write me when it fails so I can have a excellent laugh.

I purchased these to migrate my RAID 1 from 500 MB drives to the 1 TB wide variety in my DYI Pc (Intel Gigabyte GA-EA38-DS4 motherboard - 3. GHz Quad-Core processor). This is a BIOS controlled RAID and the migration to the bigger drives went without a hitch, as soon as I figured out how to use the Matrix Storage Console. These drives are more rapidly than the last set and twice as massive, and easy to set up. I was surprised to read other people who named these drives quiet. To my ear they softly "clack" a bit. It is not the quiet "hum" of drive operation I expected. That mentioned, you get applied to it - and it is a smaller cost to pay for all the extra storage and faster seek time. I nonetheless would advocate these, clack and all. It is not that undesirable...

I see lots of people today questioning why to get precise Raid Edition drives versus 'regular' drives, and I can sum it up for you, five YEAR WARRANTY. Most standard drives are 2-3 years max. Also, RE drives are NOT distinct for RAID0, and running RAID0 for your boot or only drive is asking for trouble, unless you use costly SSD drives. Other than a tiny noiser than standard or 'green' drives, none. Get these for peace of thoughts.

A solid, reliable performer. I have two and they've been named on for enormous information backup virtually each day for over a year. No hiccups, no troubles, nothing incorrect. That's the way I like it, and at the price that's what I count on. None I want and would like to get much more, but I dread the possibility of extremely poor packaging. It's a shame that it's a realistic concern. Anything about the drive (and Newegg) is as close to great as a single could ask. But the Packaging Of Doom weighs heavily on me.

These have the very same good quality and efficiency that I have come to expect from Western Digital Difficult Drives. I purchased these to replace two Caviar 250GB HDDs that I had in RAID0 for more than 4 years with no problems and wonderful reliability during lots of gaming and folding. The only purpose I decided to upgrade is since I will need more space. I count on these new RE3 drives to last me in RAID0 for at least the similar quantity of time with the same efficiency and reliability as my old WD drives. These items are not quiet. These are the first HDDs from Western Digital that I can clearly hear clicking by means of my case. I have WD difficult drives in all of my computers and these are by far the loudest. Not too loud, but enough to annoy me as I am not utilized to hearing HDDs particularly new ones. Since when do you have to acquire RAID specific HDDs? This sounds to me like a way for WD to sell the very same drives at a higher value and call them "RAID particular." My old caviars had been not RAID certain and I under no circumstances had issues with them. ุ much more than the Caviar Blacks just so I can run these drives in RAID0 feels like extortion...Either way, when it comes to wonderful reliability and great performance you can't go incorrect with Western Digital.

I have had one of these drives installed in a Windows Property Server and included in that item's computer software-based 'file duplication' scheme (akin to RAID 1 mirroring) for the past 8 months. The drive is quiet for the duration of operation and, as a portion of this residence-built WHS box, a lot rapidly. I have not encountered any issues. None of which to speak. I began with two Seagate 500GB server-class drives in the WHS box, but realized that the 16 - 20GB worth of pictures that I often shoot in a day out in the field would fill up these drives rapidly.I strategy on getting one more 1 of these drives or perhaps the two TB version depending on cash flow.Other WHS box components:- Antec's Mini P180 (can't say adequate fantastic factors about this case as it cools a passive Scythe Ninja Mini CPU heatsink)- Antec's Earthwatts 430W PSU (super quiet for an 80mm fan and overkill for this machine)- AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.5GHz CPU @ 45W (yeah, impossibly low power usage and efficiency is fine)- ASUS mATX mobo with Kingston DDR2 RAM.

- 1 in 10Ⓡ bit error rate- 1.2M hour MTBF- Designed to assistance RAID (no concerns with drop-outs due to deep recovery cycles, as with most consumer drives) Ordered ten of these drives, and 1 was DOA. Not as well negative, I guess, but not great. Also, Newegg ships them basically as bare drives, packed in tiny far more than bubble wrap with a tiny styrofoam -- not perfect. These drives are developed to be applied in a RAID array, and are possibly overkill for use as singles. I like them much better than 2TB drives (which have the very same BER), due to the fact they aid to increase overall technique reliability. In spite of their concerns and the resulting 4-egg rating, these drives are still my favorite HDDs.

Good Drive. Just operates. Have not had any concerns. WD has 1 of the very best rma setup in the country. Nothing but great from me. I can't afford far more of them. I am working with these in a raid 6 with Adaptec 5805 operating ESX 4.0u1. Origionally bought these to replace the seagate junk that intel advised. I had 10 seagate drives fail within three months of install. I am solely a WD man now. I have been utilizing these and the 750Gig RE3 for about 2 1ǘ years now. Fantastic drives. Have not had 1 fail however. (Knock on wood.)

Some of the other reviews were regarding about the Drive faliure rates, but there were some fantastic ones as properly. I guess I got a good a single. I hope! Properly from what I read, superior top quality manage sounds in order. It confident doesn't give me a lot of self-confidence in the company.

I guess 2 of them nonetheless operate? Correct out of the gate, 2 of these died. I had ordered these overnight because I required them next day, paid 70 dollars for shipping, and could not use these drives. Newegg did method a refund for these drives, and shipped my next drives out overnight for no cost, but refused to refund my initial payment for overnight shipping, even though the drives were practically useless. A third a single finally failed right now, about 2 weeks in, so we are on the last two working ones from the initial order. Maybe we just got a negative batch, but I will be seeking elsewhere for drives for the close to future.
