Ordered ƒ)... One particular drive was fine. Ordered ƒ)... The other was not (DOA). This is a massive disappointment from Western Digital for any drive, let alone an RE3 drive. WD has been my favorite drive manufacturer for years now, but from what I've read lately, they are going by the way of Seagate.FYI, WD Diagnostic Tools v1.17 has difficulties... a lot of posts about a Cable error when initiating a test. I had this same challenge, but all you will need to do is download v1.13 of the plan. What I don't recognize is why their internet site continues to direct you to download version v1.17.I've read other comments about New Egg when it comes to shipping tough drives. In my case, every single drive was bubble wrapped and placed inside it's own individual box. Then those boxes were packed inside a significant brown box with paper inside. If I wanted to be picky, they could have utilized additional paper as it compresses some during shipping causing the drives to slide back and forth, not below regular handling but an problem during shipping. A buddy functions for **** and told me he can't believe how rough they are with packages.

Newegg's return policy Sadly, I got two DOA drives. Newegg customer service was best notch although. Each drives spun up but neither had been recognized by XP, Win2k8 R2, or Win 7, in either a SATA drive cage or through a USB-SATA disk dock. Difficult break.

1 of the two ordered appears to perform. 1 of the two ordered was dead on arrival. I'd read other critiques complaining about Newegg's poor packing, but assumed since so a lot of buyers had complained Newegg must have gotten their act together. Not so. The two drives I ordered had been barely wrapped in a sheet of bubble wrap and bounced about in the box. I installed one of the drives and it seems OK. Installed the second drive, it booted up and accepted some data, but created the "clicks of death" soon after the second begin up. It's difficult for me to picture that Western Digital can remain in business shipping out only 50% of their drives in operating condition, so I'm going to blame the poor packing. I'll be content if the replacement functions, but honestly, I most likely wouldn't order from Newegg once more unless I hear that their packing has improved.

The drive is extremely quickly as my notebook's OS drive. It boots Windows 7 in about 7 seconds from the time I push the energy button till I am at a login screen. It is Windows 7 certified so there is no want to update the BIOS to allow trimming functions. None...except, now I am thinking I would like bigger SSD for my games. ;)

I bought this drive four months ago to replace a failed Seagate. I've been quite satisfied with the efficiency and durability. I've been making custom PCs for 25 years. WD black drives have stood the test of time since their introduction. I program on buying a number of more to replace lesser drives. A small pricey but properly worth the investment.

Years of positive expertise with WD led me to buy these Raid Edition HDD's. They have run constantly and flawlessly for the past two years. None so far - except that they were 赝.99ea. 2 yrs ago <grin>. I have other WD HDD's up to 10yrs old that I use in an external enclosure to transfer files. And like the old Finck's overalls ad applied to say - they "Wear like a pigs nose"! Basically indestructible. I have 2 WD RE3 1TB's in RAID1 for essential data & two smaller HDD's in RAID0 for gaming. Finest of each worlds.

Functions in AMS VENUS ES2 utilizing "SAFE mode" (RAID 1 - Mirror) None Purchased 2 to use in mirroring array in AMS VENUS ES2 enclosure ... plug 'n play. Decent throughput for backup storage that I'm employing these for (even more than USB). Would obviously be quicker to have them setup RAID inside my personal computer (but that's not why I got these).

Fast, quiet and if you get a superior 1 appears to be trustworthy.Purchased 4 of these. two for a RAID1 boot drive and two for a RAID0 data capture drive. 1 of the drives would not hold the RAID1 array despite "passing" the WD Lifeguard drive tests. I RMAed that drive and the replacement drive holds up perfectly. I do have to say that the four drives work quite properly and I am impressed how quiet and rapidly they are. Good quality control. But WD is not exceptional to this. I've had equivalent drive concerns with other vendors. 5+ stars for newegg service. I received an RMA and a replacement drive extremely speedily. I have been a consumer of Newegg for several years. Besides very good pricing, they take care of their consumers. That's 1 of the causes I will continue to shop Newegg.

Reliable, five year warranty, quiet, suitable for RAID A bit a lot more high priced, but worth it for reliability and decent speed and comparatively low noise. I am a photographer with a need for HDD reliability. I have two of these configured in RAID 1.

Built like a Black and made for a RAID! Costly comparatively (but the promo code helped). To all the folks who are wondering why these are RAID particular and why other drives are not. I was with you till a friend educated me by telling me to Google TLER. These drives are TLER enable which in a nut shell, allows the RAID controller to do most of the error checking and correction. Where typical (consumer grade) hard drives do most of the error checking and correcting inside the drive. TLER will limit these drive to a period of not additional than 7 seconds to do their own error corrections and if they can't correct in that period of time, they pass the error correction on to the RAID controller to finish. Typical drives can take over 8 seconds to do their error correction and if they do take longer than 8 seconds, most RAID controllers will mark the drive as unresponsive and give you a drive error message, potentially causing data lose.

So far great and reliable for more than 6 months in RAID 1. Priciey for it's size. Slight grow when accessing data but not loud like the old style Raptors. I see lots of individuals who report failed drives here. I don't know if they utilised the no cost UPS shipping or not, but i by no means use UPS for shipping HDD's anymore. I use to get higher failure rates when i was utilizing UPS, no matter what type of HDD i got. But since switching to FEDEX the failure rates have dropped. If you are purchasing this drive or any other expensive HDD I suggest working with FEDEX, it's worth the added price. UPS is identified for abusing their packages a lot more. Also for those of you who are getting trouble with RMA to NewEgg. Try going to WesternDigital's web site and use their RMA, this drive has a five year producers warranty and WD will replace with new drives if the drive is still in production.

Lots of storage space, wonderful speed, doing precisely what they are suppose to do! somewhat noisy I have two of these setup in the DNS-323 as RAID 1 for backup storage, was nervous due to the fact of the DNS-323 approved list, but these are working exactly as they ought to, no troubles with write times, decent speed, somewhat noisy when 2 of them are writing at the same time, working exactly as advertized!

Rather possibly the ideal 1TB drives on the market. I own six of these drives, 4 of which are becoming used for RAID arrays. The oldest of them is about eight months old. None of them have had any complications of any kind whatsoever. No cons. These WD RE3 drives are solid and trustworthy performers. Just don't let UPS get anywhere near them. If you make a decision to order 1 or more of these drives, then make sure that you pick FedEx two-day shipping, to make certain that they will arrive undamaged. UPS shipping is NOT a great selection for tough drives. Be positive to install these in a very well-ventilated case. There wants to be adequate cooling in the vicinity of your hard drives... an location which is generally overlooked by quite a few builders. Maintain them cool and they'll final for years.

None. I bought two of these drives, and put them in RAID0 configuration under Windows 7. Performance was a pathetic 40MB/Sec. I had another pair of Samsung 1TB drives, which give me a sustained 200MB/Sec. I had returned the RE3 and bought a pair of WD1001FALS, which are amazing! They are giving me much more than 200MB/Sec sustained throughput. In Summary: Remain away from these, and but WD1001FALS instead if you care for performance.

Quiet, and rapidly. I put 4 drives in a RAID five array and inside the 1st 30 days I have had two fail in the array causing me to RMA them each. Newegg has been great in accepting the RMAs.I bought these a lot more expensive drives to guarantee their performance and realiability in a RAID array and it has been disappointing and time consuming to RMA the drives and reorder. When I added these drives to add the RAID array to my Windows 7 create, I was forced to reinstall the Windows 7 operating method because my initial construct did not consist of drivers for the RAID array and Windows 7 was not booting with any selection to add the drivers.

It's a WD and there warrranty policies/procedures are outstanding. You're paying ๑ far more for this drive when you could purchase the Blue series and get a greater benchmark. If you don't believe me just check out Passmark's website and compare this drive to the ๥ dollar blue model WD10EALS. Possibly WD was going for a drive with characteristics from both the green and the black. It just so occurs they produced a drive capable of scores close to that of the 6.0Gb/s WD1002FAEX. It pays to do some investigation just before you get.

Pros:1.5 year warranty2.Relatively quiet3.Extremely well packaged4.Enterprise drives
Comment:
I received two of those drives from NCIX recently and the first thing I was amazed was how well those two were packaged. I know that UPS guys sometimes abuse shipments, but with this packaging everything was OK. This is my first WD drive and so far everything is working well, but I will edit my review if something goes wrong in the future (hope not). I am also planning on using them in RAID1 in about a month, but I'll update  my review when my new MB arrives. Yes the price is a concern, but this drive is supposed to be reliable and you get 5 year warranty instead of 3, like most manufacturers do today.Good luck to everyone who decides to purchase this drive!
