Excellent speed for a present drive. Fantastic storage drive. WD reliability. Have sold numerous of these with no complaints or problems. Not rapidly sufficient compared to quite a few 7200 rpm drives out now. Great storage drive for the value. The speed is just too overshadowed by several 7200 rpm drives now for only a few dollars far more. WD RMA policy is Globe's finest though. A model for others to adhere to.

Umm... cheap upgrade. The 1st 1 was DOA, the 2nd created loud noises and didnt work. Im just going to burn this 1 in the burn pit and save Newegg some time.

500GB, low cost. In spite of what other individuals have said I would not suggest this drive for a PS3. The drive's firmware will aggressively park the heads and spin down the drive after only 4 seconds of inactivity. Under Windows, the power management software keeps this under manage, but when making use of the drive in the PS3 or on a Mac, it is a real issue. If you leave the PS3 alone for far more than a few seconds, the drive goes to sleep and the subsequent spin up delay causes the PS3 to hang for five-ten seconds. This takes place in the XMB all the time but also through some games. Not only is this incredibly annoying but parking the head that regularly can wear out the mechanism and cause the drive to fail sooner than normal. Google for Western Digital aggressive head parking and you will locate lots of forum posts on the subject. There is a utility referred to as WDIDLE3 that will allow you to disable the aggressive head parking. Google for it and find the directions. Soon after I did this the annoying stutters and hangs on my PS3 were gone and hopefully now the drive will not self destruct from all the excessive head parking.

The Excitement I Felt When The Package Arrived Almost everything Else.. The Drive Was DOA, attempted it in two machines and all I get is a click click click. BIOS doesn't even see the drive. The packaging for the drive was less than spectacular, wadded paper and bubble wrap, so I'm assuming damage in transit. Now newegg wants me to spend to return it to them?! No thanks, I'll RMA via WD. Unfortunately, They won't overnight me a new one. So it looks like I'm going to order a different drive from Newegg and have it overnighted.. You get what you spend for...

Economical high-capacity notebook drive. Effortless install in a Toshiba Satellite M115. Formatted, about 90% capacity. What's not to love? None, seriously. Partitioned into a boot drive and a storage drive. Windows 7 loads off it in seconds.

I bought this with a fresh copy of 7 House Premium and have been beyond content with the performance and size. Runs faster then my old 250G drive and offers me more room then I know what to do with. None here To be clear I imaged my old Vista install from the 250G to this before wiping for 7 and even under Vista there was a considerable performance acquire. This was the cheapest and almost certainly most successful upgrade I have ever done to any laptop I have ever owned before.

none for me Really slow I got this tough drive for my late 2009 MBP, after I got it installed every thing worked as standard but I was finding nowhere near 3Gb/s, maybe 3Mb/s. It was so slow it would not preserve up with my typing. I contacted newegg and they are giving me a refund.

Produced a much more surprising speed difference in my MacbookPro, a lot more than I was expecting. Memory was already maxed out so the subsequent upgrade to bring some speed in was HDD-- either bigger capacity HDD or SSD. Just couldn't see spending hundreds of dollars on a sufficient capacity SSD for a 4 year old laptop. For about โ I got all the capacity I will need to have for the remaining life of the laptop plus a 30% speed enhance vs the stock HDD. More vibration with this drive than the one it replaces. No indication that it runs cooler or reduces or increases the battery life. 2006 Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo two.33Ghz, 4GB ddr2. Replaced a 200GB 4200rpm Toshiba drive that was stock from Apple. Partitioned the drive at 320GB and left the rest as free space. I had been contemplating a 7200rpm 320GB drive about the similar price but this 500GB will be faster across its 1st 320GB than the more quickly spinning 320GB drive.

It works. I bought it a lot more than a year ago, when 7200rpm drives had been more expensive, so it's not the fastest drive. It does, nonetheless, have a superior amount of storage space for a laptop hard drive and it gets the job accomplished. I put mine in my aluminium MacBook and had the exact same issue some other MacBook users were getting with this drive. My tough drive began making audible, mechanical clicks and beeps whenever it parked its head. It isn't so considerably of a dilemma as it is an annoyance.

Excellent value, lots of storage for the cost Have two of these drives, 1 is still working excellent, the other began exhibiting Wise errors 11 months later. These are only utilised occasionally as USB external drives. The failing drive is nonetheless under warranty and I am in the approach of having it RMA'd. I have dealt with WD for RMAs in the past and I like their new method for doing them, really painless and simple. Newegg gets five eggs as often for price and speedy delivery.

I lot of storage and superior performance. Compared fairly very good to my prior 7200 RPM factory drive in my Dell Inspirion 1520. It died last night. This is the 1st drive I've ever owned that has died in much less than two years of ownership! I'm hoping Western Digital will replace under manufacturer warranty. Gonna have to pop in the 7200 drive that seemed like it was dying to have a functional laptop in the meantime.

Really like the Capacity. Simple install in my Dell utilizing the Acronis from WDC, but WATCHOUT for the HPA on older Dells... you have to get rid of it Before you transfer every little thing to WD, I didn't and I would up with my 500GB drive showing as an 80GB drive... anyways, lookup DELL HPA and you locate all the information to fix. Found all the info and reset my drive back to 500GB! you can hear this drive rattling when it is active... (not sure what else to call it)... it is quite noticible compared to the old Seagate 80GB in my Dell. there's a humming noise when inactive.

Replaced a Seagate 250GB 7200RPM drive with this and couldn't be happier. Can barely tell the distinction in speed (if at all) between this and the 5400RPM drive, and this drive surely runs cooler and quieter with no detectable vibration. I'm incredibly pleased, as usual, with NewEgg's secure, fast and cheap shipping, let alone the bargain cost of the drive. None, zero, zilch! Ran Seagate's drive utility to format and load this drive and it ran flawlessly by automatically proportionately expanding and loading all partitions and generating this the boot drive. Was up and running with the new drive installed in about a half hour.

It was cheap. It's 500GB in two.five". The only con I have, is that I had it installed in a PS3 and if the HDD was not in use for a few minutes the next time accessed it would momentarily freeze the method (for like two or 3 secs) before being fine.

Cost! 10cents/GB, runs quiet and cool, you'd be difficult pressed to notice any actual world distinction between this 5400rpm WD hdd and most other 7200rpm hdd's, in fact it outpaced Seagates 7200rpm hdd in most testing. Not WD fault but the 2nd hdd installion "kit" cost practically as much as the hdd itself (running a Raid configuration). Until SSD prices for the substantial capacity drives drop way below the existing 3dollar/GB cost point i'll stick with the old tried and true mechanical hdd's.
