Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB 2.5IN 7200RPM SATA Notebook Hard Drive
Cons: Drive noise.

Pros: Cost per GB, speed
Comment:
Very affordable 500gb drive. Drive noise seems high compared to the 5400 rpm drive it replaced. This may be just a trait of a 7200 rpm drive and may not be of concern but it is worth noting that drive life may be lower than expected.

Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB 2.5IN 7200RPM SATA Notebook Hard Drive
Cons: Noisy at times

Pros: Fast, good size
Comment:
No problems installing the hard drive. Everything is working to spec, it makes noise when at full rpm but overall fairly quiet. Its a good volume size for a laptop computer. Very good value for gb/price compared to a ssd option.

Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB 2.5IN 7200RPM SATA Notebook Hard Drive
Cons: slightly louder than 5400 RPM models

Pros: fast5 year warranty
Comment:
Not much to say here, the drive is quite fast, has a great warranty, and is an awesome deal when on sale. Picked mine up for $53, will stick to these drives for 2.5" applications going forwards. If you're picky on noise, consider flooking for other options (SSD) if you're looking for a laptop drive, as this drive is louder than most.

Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB 2.5IN 7200RPM SATA Notebook Hard Drive
Cons: A bit louder than some other drives.

Pros: Fast. Good price with PM.
Comment:
I bought this to put in the 2nd HD caddy in my thinkpad. I read some of the reviews about the noise level but I got it anyway. It is definitely audible in a low-noise room, it sounds like a fan, but it doesn't bother me much. It is faster than the 5400rpm 250GB Toshiba drive that it is replacing and it doesn't seem to put too much of a dent into the battery life.

I've always been a fan of Seagate, but decided to try out a WD Scorpio Black-glad I did. Fantastic drive, much faster than the stock 5400 rpm drive and the power usage is identical. No issues after 4 months.

Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB 2.5IN 7200RPM SATA Notebook Hard Drive
Cons: - Much more audible than a 5400 RPM drive.- Also draws significantly more power than a 5400 RPM drive.

Pros: + Great performance for a laptop.+ Good price range (500GB for around $55 ~ $0.11 per GB)
Comment:
I purchased this with the intention of replacing a 500GB Seagate Momentus 5400.6. So far I've noticed that my laptop is a lot snappier. Booting and loading of applications are definitely faster. Downside is that it's louder. In a quiet room, you can easily hear the drive running. As for battery life, my laptop (ASUS U30JC) can usually run for around 6 hours while doing light web broswing and pdf reading while using the 5400RPM Seagate. With the WD Scorpio Black I can manage about 5 hours and 30 minutes. Overall I think the increase in performance is worth the decrease in battery life and increase in noise. 5400 RPM drives are simply too sluggish, and SSDs aren't exactly the most viable solution economically.

Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB 2.5IN 7200RPM SATA Notebook Hard Drive
Cons: There's a little noise when the hard drive is working hardly.

Pros: The price. The capaity. The stability
Comment:
I used to replace my Macbook Pro hard drive with this hard drive and it's working very well. It's fast and I have more space to put my pictures and videos. I don't if it's because the Macbook's case is skinny, but there is a small noise from the hard drive when I used it to transfert data. But it's not very loud. So, It's very fast and I can watch movie, listen music and transfert that at a great speed. The biggest streng of this item is his price by his speed and capacity.

Pros: Responsive and fast, great capacity
Comment:
Installed into a PS3 without a hitch. I haven't did any speed tests but it does feel slightly more responsive than the 5400rpm drive it replaced. I only wish I could install one of these into my Xbox 360, but had to settle for the 250gb version of this drive for that one.

I upgraded a 2-3 year old laptop's HD from a WD 120GB 5400rpm to this. I didn't expect much of a speed upgrade along with the space needed, but wow what a difference! It actually rendered some apps I could barely use (like Nikon View NX2) to normal use.Initially was going to go Momentus XT, but couldn't bring myself to pay twice as much for my old laptop.BTW, used WD's free cloning software (basic Acronis Home Ed) to clone my laptop drive. Worked great. Just make sure you turn off sleep mode on your laptop, as the first time around mine went to sleep in the middle of the cloning process, and wouldn't wake up. I had to start the clone over again, but after turning off sleep mode it went without any hiccups.

Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB 2.5IN 7200RPM SATA Notebook Hard Drive
Cons: -I suppose the heat/power consumption *could* be a weakness but really what do you expect from a 7200 RPM Notebook drive.

Pros: -Fast-Price-Capacity Options-WD Warranty
Comment:
I spent a few days comparing these with Momentus XT drives, but for the price I really couldn't say no; benchmarks have this listed as the fastest notebook drive and that's completely justified, in some cases it outperforms the hybrid drives which are on the market.Like any notebook drive the ease of installation is relative to the model you own, my MBP was of course easy to toss this in, and the subsequent OSX install had a noticeable speed increase over the stock 5400RPM drive.I've heard a few instances of the heat and power consumption being excessive for a notebook, but I've found it to be a nonissue, my battery lasts just as long, the heat is also negligible.

I bought this to put in my Core 2 Duo Macbook that I purchased in January of 2007. I replaced an 80GB Toshiba drive with this and was pleasantly surprised with the results. In addition to giving me more storage space, my laptop seems faster now, and noise levels haven't been impacted.
