ITS QUIET works well....s.m.a.r.t. also works!! None Obtain IT!, Works effectively in a 2009 17" macbook pro unibody. Installation was a breeze altough i did need to have to obtain a t11 torx screwdriver for the harddrive that was originally in my mac. This was just to remove the side screwmounts and place them in the wd drive.

Response to customer Response to customer To the tech that stated aftermarket drives will always fail the S.M.A.R.T. status check on an Apple. I have an aftermarket WD 500gb drive in my MacBook Pro and it shows up as S.M.A.R.T. status: verified.

The reason you're searching at it... It's a TB. Easy to install, does specifically what I was told it would do... store stuff on it. None but... I'm positive one day it will die, but so do the rest of them. If that day comes too soon... then I'll add that here. Just FYI... The drive is physically thicker than normal tough drives. I have mine installed in my NEW MacBook Pro Unibody, but from what I've been told, it wont fit in the older MacBook Pros... and I'm not positive about the MacBooks. Appear at the dimensions of this drive compared to a regular two.5" HDD and make positive it will fit in your laptop or computer ahead of Purchasing. Other than that... honestly it's a wonderful drive.Hope this assists you.

Numerous other people have stated that it fails the S.M.A.R.T. status but mine passed on the first day. Massive storage! Straightforward to Install. To start off, - it created the clicking noise when on idle(did some google search and it is supposedly a energy saving feature for mac os x)- Heating challenge? (it is either the hard drive or the new rams... most most likely the ram)- Well... I didn't expertise any speed improvement upgrading from 5400rpm to 5200rpm. - The difficult drive failed couple days ago. I was transferring some files from the PC then all of the sudden, every little thing just slowed down to the point where I couldn't even shut it down. Yes it fits in to the Unibody Macbook. But beware, even following formatting three times, it wouldn't install the OS X, also it would of taken 392 hours to restore from the time machine. It is clearly a faulty drive... Great luck with your purchases!!!p.s. I filed a replacement, I will make positive to get back and update the assessment.

Massive space, quiet, works with MBP despite becoming 12.7mm. S.M.A.R.T status is verified. Formatted speedily, reinstalled data from old drive in external enclosure no difficulty. Appears a bit quicker than the 5400 rpm 500gb drive I had prior to (won't know until I've run it by means of its paces). Newegg delivered as promised. None so far. Bought for a late 2009 MBP 17" unibody. Was complicated to come across clear answers as to no matter whether the drive fit or not until a short though ago. I can say with certainty that the drive does fit on the 17" 5,2 without having any problems (no case bulging, etc). Saw that a person stated that they had a failure on S.M.A.R.T status - that the apple tech had stated that would happen on replacement drives. This is not true. Intelligent can fail for different factors, not all mean that the drive is corrupt - but it does indicate some form of challenge with either the drive or the connector/cable. Just bear in mind to maintain in mind that each time you take something out of a laptop there's always the chance you can harm one thing - ribbon cables are Incredibly straightforward to damage, and some drives are a lot more sensitive to others when dealing with poor connections. Drives ultimately fail. That's life. Most of the drives I've had have lasted years longer than the laptops they had been in. Hopefully this 1 will do the identical.

Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB SATA2 5200RPM 8MB Cache 2.5 Notebook Hard Drive OEM
Cons: -slightly thicker than other 2.5inch drives-Won't fit on most laptops/2.5 inch enclosures

Pros: -big storage space.-solid track record (being Western Digital)
Comment:
For those of you who intend to put it onto a enclosure/laptop, I recommend you take note that the dimensions on this particular hdd is about few millimetres thicker than that of the 750 black, so it might not fit, for that -1 star =C

Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB SATA2 5200RPM 8MB Cache 2.5 Notebook Hard Drive OEM
Cons: It must be noted that this drive is 12.5mm thick as opposed to the more common 9.5mm drive. Some enclosures/chassis will not accommodate the additional space requirements, I fell victim this exact scenario.

Pros: Good product as far as I can tell.
Comment:
It would be suggested that the specs include the physical dimensions of the drive to help in preventing other from having this issue.

Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB SATA2 5200RPM 8MB Cache 2.5 Notebook Hard Drive OEM
Cons: A little bit taller than the regular 2.5 drive

Pros: 5200rpm but quite fast
Comment:
This drive is fast although it is only 5200 rpm. If you want large volume and less heat and noise, this is one of the drive you should get before SSD drops their price.
