It's a major tricky drive and so far it's been quite rapid. None that I've noticed, but it's only been a week. When I very first popped the difficult drive in the notebook, I got a Read Disk Error, which quite a few other purchasers of this hdd also received (based on some of the comments), so naturally I believed the drive was defective. It then dawned on me that my laptop's BIOS could not recognize significant tough drives, so I designed two partitions ࿰GB & 240GB) and installed Windows on the 1st. Immediately after Windows was installed I updated the BIOS, and now the hdd is working fine. I can't feel I practically RMA'ed it, and am glad I persevered.

Uncomplicated to clone existing 100MB HD in Acer Travelmate 4202 using a Rosewill 2.5" external IDE to USB enclosure along with the WD3200BEVE 320MB drive. Utilized Acronis from WD site to partition the HD and cloning the old 1. Only concern which was extremely minor (due to not reading guidelines!) was it took me about ten minutes to figure out I needed to use Windows XP disk management tool to format the drive so it would show up beneath "My Computer". After that it was a piece of cake. Swapped out the old drive for the new and off and running in about two hours, which most was spent cloning the drive. None so far

Lots of space for your old laptop. The dense platters mean quick load occasions even at 5400 RPM. Does not look slower than my old 80GB 7200 RPM. Like some other folks, I had to partition since of my old laptop. This is not the drives fault. Newegg rocks.

Size, speed and value for a 2.five inch PATA drive. Discover big improvement over my old Fujitsu one hundred GB HDD. 1st unit DOA...no spin. HDD RMA 2 weeks later OK. But HP Pavilion LT wouldn't see it on USB by way of a Nippon Labs EIDE HDD kit...LBA 48 ? or patches in WD-Acronis tools (won't run if a WD drive isn't observed)? WD level two support "have no procedure for a 'consumer' LT with a single HDD bay"! Ended up by making use of a surrogate wkstn's USB to BACKUP the orig HDD partitions and RESTORE these to the Scorpio maintaining partitions .4 GB. Spec is .5W far more power than original HDD. Replaced 100 GB Fujitsu HDD in HP dv5040us Pavilion. Use FORMAT not Quick format...some sectors negative in new HDD...esp. if you have to use the BACKUP/RESTORE partitions surrogate wkstn route (instead of a direct HDD clone on the LT). Very good handling by NewEgg...but RMAs seem sooo s-l-o-w due to shipping and handling.

generate item.low cost, these drives were 躔 not long ago.all drives (even back to 1981 IBM XT days) are measured in decimal bytes. 1000. decimal. (this is rotating memory and not binary solid state memory , ok?)in the laptop would it is 1024.bytes. (binary power of two)so 1000 divided by 1024 results in significantly less space.!and so does formatting overhead.Like a file cabinet has much less space just since of the folders. see?subsequent, do not blame the HDD for becoming too big when your old Pc or lap best has negative BIOS and can not recognize over 137gb, So partition it and be pleased. Move your my documents folder more than to the D: ƒnd partition) and now you will not lose your data when the subsequent virus wipes you out.Partitions are fantastic thing, unless editing a complete length movie but who does that on an old slow lap leading.?Last be joyful that a person still makes PATA drives for all this old Legacy Iron. Cheers ! Thanks WD and Samsung too inexpensive, need to be a lot more ,its worth far more.these drives have weak situation and also hate dropping.so put it in actual easy ,do not twist it or press on the bottom or lid !!! DO NOT. a excellent product.before condemning it , test in on yet another puter.they also make adapters to test it on a desk leading.so uncomplicated to condemn when your laptop is negative.ask for greater packing.

Excellent price for a 320GB Notebook Drive. Did not operate. My computer system recognized the entire 300GB partition and completed formating the drive. Windows XP installation stopped after copying files with a disk read error. Drive was RMA for replacement. Drive was delivered promptly and RMA procedures were effortless to adhere to. I realize that new items sometimes fail but the loss in time and return shipping expenses makes mail order shopping a really poor encounter.

Lots of Difficult Drive space for an older ATA Drive. Superior upgrade for older laptops. If you have the 137g motherboard/bios limitation you will have to make at least three or more partitions to avert read errors. And even though its a 5200 rpm drive, its not considerably more quickly than the 80g I replaced. I was tired of running out of space with my 80g HP 5478cl. Working with WD's information lifeguard tools to make three partitions - 80 gig for the OS then two 120 gigs for the other "stuff". Thanks to the other reviewers here for the tip. Installation was a breeze. The only hangup was my drive speed was way also slow with the default XP SP3 drivers, but I located newer ALi Chipset drivers on the internet that worked great.I'm a tiny disappointed with with the speed - my old Hitachi 4200rpm 80g got 85-90 MB/s burst speed working with HD Tach, but the WD gets an typical of 75. And the write speed of the third partition is a tiny slower than the other two. I utilised that partition for music, photographs and other items that dont require a fast hard drive.Although its a small slower than I expected, it's a little price tag to pay to get all this space.

A item that doesn't work can't have a pro.... Formatted, setup copied files, disk read error, the finish. Not interested in finding a second 1 that could extremely probably develop into a major fridge magnet right after an hour or two. Has WD ever heard of good quality assurance? This must be the dozenth WD hdd that I've had die. Oh how I miss you IBM. Why am I getting forced to pay for return shipping on a defective product? Is this Newegg's way of telling me I shouldn't shop right here ever again?

A lot of space... That's about all! Right after I RMA'd the initial drive due to "Disk read error" (I was unable to generate a partition to load windows) I waited a week and a half to obtain the replacement. At initially all was properly, but but once more WD has shoved another defect in my tailpipe! Same problem, and I would have lost all my data 鴈 GB) if I didnt have a USB hook up to copy all files to my desktop! Fairly aggravated that I have to deal with another RMA due to the fact of WD defects. Sadly, I knew greater and I went against my greater judgment and purchased this drive, ought to've purchased a Seagate! Remain away from Western Digital drives...Not Newegg's fault!!!

Great price tag. I ordered this to upgrade my dad's laptop. I usually like Western Digital but drive was DOA. I initially tried to RMA online but I got hit with a restocking fee, so a simple contact to Newegg cleared that up. Newegg rocks. DOA. I didn't order yet another 1. Wasted time. But perhaps I'll order once again later when I have time to deal with it. Wish they had a 1TB ATA version.

I went from a 60 GB 7200 RPM hard dive to a 320 GB 5400 RPM challenging drive. It runs cooler and also extended the battery life. I feel the cause the battery life was extended is since the 7200 RPM challenging drive has to use a lot more power to spin more quickly and because the additional heat construct up from the older drive. I love being capable to have seperate partitions so I can share a drive with my property network and not have the C drive shared. Despite the fact that it is a slow spinning tough drive the only time I notice a actual differance is when I'm transfering files. Requires longer the transfer files from 1 pc to an additional. I have a Dell XPS M140 that runs Windows XP Expert and is 4 years old. I don't know how I ever tolerated a 60GB tricky drive. This is the second best upgrade I've done to my computer. The finest by far was upgrading the RAM from 256MB 533 DDR2 RAM to a single two GB 667 DDR2 RAM stick. I have a 667 Front Side Bus on my personal computer so the speed helped as properly as the boost in RAM.

Like the drives size. Up from the 100gb 񢫨rpm's) my HP zv6000 series. Reload XP, drivers, apps, music, video, photos w/out issue. Partitioned out 250gb's. Runs quiet and not all that hot/warm. Boots-up much faster. Seems a tiny off when I delete some files. May well have the wrong format on that partitioned drive for just music, video, & photos.

Easy to install. Quick upgrade from 40 GB to 320 GB. Disk install requires three minutes. Costly for 320 GB but this is due to the interface (IDE is old technology). Installed it on a IBM T43 and got bios error 2010. This is a nuisance rather than a real error as this is not an IBM disk. Set bios to continue booting and disk has been flawless. Installed fresh windows XP SP3 without concerns. My IBM T43 has been a solid road warrior and do not want to replace but I required additional space for films and images.

Low-cost, quickly, quiet, cool and Awesome! I got the Western Digital WD3200BEVE and place XP Pro SP3 back on, quite and upgrade from the original 30 GB HDD! If you are doing this to your 700m멞m, make positive you visit support.dell.com to upgrade your BIOS and IDE controller driver with WD firmare patch first. Wish I would have place this in sooner. I also added this memory to my current 1 GB, for a total of two GB of memory for my Dell Inspiron 700m. It now has the maximum memory for this laptop. Works great!
