Jason_H@NCIX Rating: Review Date: 03/08/11	Western Digital VelociRaptor 150GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive Cons: -Loud Pros: -Fast-Reliable-incredible in Raid Comment: This drive is very dependable and fast but when you run two in a raid stripe setup it is smoking, but a SSD drive or hybrid drive would rock two of these. The Velociraptor was, and is a fast and dependable drive but SSD is the way to go for speed and quietness now especially for a main drive with the operating system on it.

Cant beat the price/$ figure. Of course in a year or so SSD's will come down even more and make this obsolete... that's why they keep on having this raptor on sale so often.

Next best thing is SSD in my opinion. Thanks NCIX!

Comment: This was my OS/Apps drive before i buy a X25-M. Its now running my games and i cant say anything bad anout this drive. Its fast and silent for a 10000rpm drive.

Pros:Faster than the earlier versions. Comment: Very fast if you use 4 in a RAID 10 configuration. I have had 1 die out 10 drives, which is why hotspare makes a lot of sense.

I use WIN-XP. Going to WD's website, I found all the information. It would be nice for HD manufacturers to make it easy to prepare drive - LIKE ON A CD for example. Pros:Very nice drive. There is no way this 2.5 drive will ever over heat since it in set in a metallic 3.5 drive bay with heat sink fins. Nice touch WD. Comment: Nice drive. This one is gift to myself. Really, I wanted an SSD but they are too expensive. To prepare the drive is not too difficult. I actually learned that WIN-XP has the tool to prepare the disk. Right click on "My Computer", select MANAGE, then see the DONT ENTER sign for the new new, i.e. the drive is not active. Right click on the red DO NOT ENTER sign and select ACTIVATE. The right click on the wide area of the disk "empty" space and select FORMAT. I select ed to do a full format insted of a quick format. The WD's website explains all of that, but I was too dumb about the ACTIVATE function. I admit it - I looked twice at the HELP page.

Pros:Fast, Great OS drive,Relatively quiet Comment: Been keeping my Vista 64 bit operating system on it and its wonderful. Nice and fast and performs as expected. Now that solid state are dropping in price quickly theres not much point in buying one now but they are great hard drives.

Pros:Fast and Cool Comment: Just picked one of these up to put with 2 WD7500AAKS. I was using one of the WD7500AAKS as my primary drive and now it is a storage drive with it's twin. I must say the difference in install and loading time is noticeable. On average the read speed is not much faster ~20MB/s however the access time is around half. WD7500AAKS access time ~13ms, WD1500HLFS access time ~7ms. Great drive, definetly would buy again.
