Functions nicely with the mac firewire 400 and usb both operate flawlessly. Solid case excellent looks nothing at all cheap. Effortless to install HD. I use a WD green 1tb HD. It is super quiet and runs cool. love the small energy adapter. sturdy feet really tricky to knock more than had to use a spacer for the feet to make it a great fit, No Firewire 800 sense my HD is so slow I can under no circumstances be positive of the speed. The spacer is not really a huge deal. the blue light is not to vibrant. This is a good case, not ideal but excellent for the cost.

This enclosure is extremely straightforward to assemble and take apart, has a really appealing shape and contour, and the design allows it to radiate heat efficiently when in use for long periods of time. Excellent connectivity possibilities as well, because I use Esata to perform backups, and firewire when I am restoring the main volume (This is due to a limitation on my motherboard, in which it does not recognize esata devices unless windows physically boots). Cables could be a bit longer, despite the fact that I do realize that esata cables require to be kept short to maximize performance. At present in use with a WD Caviar Black 500GB SATA II HD, performs very nicely with no difficulties.

It functions. I put in a Seagate 7200rpm 500GB drive. Plugged in the supplied FW400 cable, powered up the factor and I utilised GParted to partition the drive. It went without any dilemma. The enclosure is reasonably quiet and warm. I didn't bother with the CD, just reading the one sheet of paper to install the HD.The aluminum is not poor at all. It doesn't incorporate the eSata cable but as a gift in restricted time from Newegg. Hope it keeps going and going. Extended term durability is important. But initial setup is fairly superior and painless.

Straightforward, quiet. Out of four total units ƒ originally purchased, 2 RMA'd), 3 have failed, 1 functions fine. Failed units perform for a little although, then turn into unresponsive. I have swapped cables, drives, etc., and tested with both USB and 1394 to confirm this behavior. Macally has RMA'd the failed drives, but will apparently not cover shipping on the failed units. It doesn't take lengthy to get to ื in shipping costs...

You can tell that macally actually made an effort to make a phenomenal item from top to bottom; along with an enclosure that has a incredibly sturdy feel to it, they also integrated USB, eSata, Firewire cables as nicely. I strategy on getting two or 3 a lot more. None seriously. Some people might be wary of the reality that there is no active fan that is cooling the drive but the big surface location along with aluminum case dissipates heat quite, extremely well. Macally has exceptional attention to detail. Preserve creating great items.

Solid really feel to the case ... may possibly withstand becoming run more than by a truck. Windows XP recognized it quickly (unlike the case which this replaced). Firewire, USB, eSata connections. An incremental backup utilizing XXCLONE computer software went considerably quicker via Firewire with this case (as compared with the USB 2 cable on the old case this one replaces). The access plate from which two screws have to be removed is plastic. When you eliminate the screws the tray falls out on the floor if you're not careful. If you over-tighten the screws when assembling you could very easily break the plastic plate, so be careful. I'd rather have mini cables to connect between the drive and the circuit board (rather than threat shifting the drive in the tray and breaking the connector off the circuit board). Inserting the drive in the tray is little tricky when it comes time to flip it more than and screw the drive to the tray. You may well require an additional pair of (tiny) hands to aid get it back together without having dropping it on the floor. Read the PDF file on CD ahead of installation. The CD consists of Button Manager computer software (no clue what that is).

eSATA, 1394a, and USB two. Rapidly transfer rates with eSATA and that's what I expected. Contains USB 2 and 1394a cables. Automobile switching鲮𞴠V) AC adaptor included. Slight con - Didn't involve an eSATA cable, but I purchased one separately. I only use this when each and every month or so to backup information files and Ghost backup pictures and only for 20-30 minutes use per month. It's held up fine. I don't know how properly it will perform with daily or continuous use. I have had it two years.

Smart styling, all aluminum casing (except for port plate in rear), and many ports. Unit runs hot and does not have a fan. The unit I purchased lasted two days before my technique cease recognizing the drive. Put drive in a competitor enclosure and it's nevertheless operating wonderful to this day. Waiting for Newegg to send my replacement. I hope I have better luck the second time around. Include a fan, even a low noise, low output fan would help.

This case looks good. A good complement to a Mac environment. I've had two operating Striped and Mirrored arrays for a few months now with no challenge. While there's no fan, I haven't run into any heat problems (they sit out on a shelf). They've been operating pretty much 24ǝ due to the fact I bought them, and haven't hiccuped. The blue light is fairly vibrant. I dislike the 4-pin power connector into the enclosure itself, but haven't had any problems. The disks themselves spin down when they're not in use, but you have to manually turn off the lights. I have these standing on their sides within a couple of inches proximity from every other and have not had any complications. Wish the power light would fade or turn off when attached pc is powered down.

Genuinely, its challenging to top this guy as Firewire 800 almost doubles the cost. Stylish despite the fact that the handles are a bit considerably. Two Firewire ports for daisy chaining. No Firewire 800, Could use internal rubberized shock mounts or at least use rubber washers on the HD mount. Ugly bright blue LED case light. Handles while they match my Mac Pros, function and house, add unnecessary girth to the form factor. The drive was definitely meant to be moved on occasion as it has a battery of ports, and the handles at to the size. No disc activity lights Its tough to go wrong for the cost, good sturdy metal case as its greater than a majority of the instances that come prepackaged with HDs. Its fanless but seems to run cool sufficient.

This enclosure functions good for the price! At about half the cost of most of the decent enclosures, I discovered it impressive that this one provided all major contemporary connections AND worked :) Some of the screws are low cost and strip easily, so be cautious if and when taking this apart and putting it together several times like I had to do. Also, it can get a rattle from time to time under heavy read/write, but I kind of expected that. Works fine with my Samsung 7200rpm 16mb 320Gb HDD employing mostly Firewire, although I've utilised the other connections as properly and all seem to function.

Initially thing is I've had this for more than 6 months and use OSX and Linux and I can't strain how much I like this enclosure. Suitable now I'm running the 1TB seagate ST31000340AS. The case itself gets fairly warm, but not hot by any indicates, and I've moved 500 GB on and off, half of the total drive size and it hasn't killed my drive however. I've read some of the critiques here that say it got too hot for their drive, but that hasn't occurred to me. I haven't had any trouble with it freezing, dropping connections, or something to that nature. I genuinely can't think of any cons, the only 1 I can believe of is I've had trouble opening it ahead of, the rails that it slides open on, not that hold the drive, aren't the best, but that doesn't have an effect on the drives preformance or safety. Also, FW 400 and USB 2. will be replaced soon, read 'other thoughts', but this isn't actually a flaw in the enclosure itself. Well, the bottle neck of enclosures nowadays is USB 2. and Firewire 400, even the WD WD10EADS 'slow' drive needs additional bandwidth than the two of them can supply. Macally makes the exact same enclosure but with Firewire 800, the G-S350SUAB, but it's 90 bucks, as a lot as the drive I want to put in it. Also, with the new USB coming out I think I'll wait for Macally to comes out with this enclosure with FW 800 and USB 3. to preserve my Windows buddies compatible. I'm obtaining a drive correct now, and I want to get 1 of these, but I'll throw it in an old USB 2. only enclosure and my next enclosure will be with FW 800 and USB 3.. But if you pc doesn't have either of these this is a wonderful enclosure.

Appealing design that fits with Mac components. Oxford chipset for compatible operation. FireWire and USB worked right out of the box. (did not try eSATA) Backed up iMac working with SuperDuper and enclosure supported an external boot. Affordable. Utilizing a WD Green drive the internal temperature (used probe) never got above 90F. minor but as others have noted the rear panel pads the connectors adequate that you have to be certain the cables are and stay connected. Enclosure will vibrate at times but effortlessly fixed. Newegg is the finest.

Appealing Case USB went poor right after a year and a half. Poor support.I emailed techsupport@macally.com with my purchase data and description of the problem. They told me a call a number and relay basically the data I had just emailed. I known as, and they told me to e-mail that details to them. I stated I had already accomplished that and mentioned it was over a year old and she stated there was absolutely nothing they could do and goodbye.I asked if there was anything at all they could do (discount on a new 1, repair, etc) and she just said no. She was quite curt and seemed to not want to aid at all. I politely asked why must I obtain a replacement macally if they fail and the support is so poor. She said, fine, goodbye!

Aluminum body - Nice surface texture, seems to cool the difficult drive properly.Connectivity - Wide choice of ports, with all cables included. And so on. - Solid really feel. Quiet operation w/ lack of fan. Physique - surface is susceptible to scratches. (this may well be just me, simply because I carried it in my backpack with automobile keys, etc.)Setup - Installation requires a small bit of caution. When you plug the HDD to the board, the drive just hangs in the air w/o nithing to support, until you have to flip it over and screw from the bottom.Etc. - Vertical stand is ugly and ruins the entire purpose of the style. Mine holds Hitachi 750GB 7200rpm. Works fantastic so far. Want to try with audio & video editing applications and see how it performs.

This case is great. I am not a Mac fan but the aluminum finish makes if lite but durable. esata works excellent, 1394 and usb have there makes use of. Bought this case simply because of great reviews and getting esata. Worth the dollars to get esata. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this case. Only thing you require is an esata cable, simply because it does not come with it. Box says optional. Only concern is the HDD may well not detect when initial connecting it to your PC. I had to connect it manually, format it, then put it into the enclosure. Which I do not comprehend why people today are not checking to make certain the HDD works before they put it into their enclosure. People are complaining about the durability of this case, are they dumb? It's a challenging drive case that is meant to be lite, which means it is going to be made out of plastics and aluminum. As for the rattling, it is a circuit board and a HDD attached to the case, what is there to rattle?

I have two other external enclosures (one rosewill and a random brand) that are both USB and eSATA only. 1 of them created a flimsy USB connection inside 6 weeks of use, and the other has a flimsy energy connection. I take outstanding care of my difficult ware, so there is no reason why they need to have broke. Well I necessary a firewire capable drive for one of my classes, so I picked this enclosure and so far it works perfectly. Two firewire (no clue why theres two, 1 is enough), USB, and eSATA is great. Its fairly effortless to install a drive, 4 screws hold it on, two screws hold the case together. Its aluminum so it makes a fantastic heatsink. It looks great, and is easy to assemble. The feet on it are a bit weird. You can either screw two feet to the bottom of either finish, but that makes it awkward to carry in my backpack, or one giant foot in the center, which as soon as again makes transporting it not as easy as it must. Its not that large of a problem for me though. I bought one for my self, and a few hours later suggested it to a friend and so far we havnt had any issues with it.This is by far the best DIY external enclosure I've come across. I'm in fact preparing on buying an additional 1 soon.

-incredibly solid construction-comes with almost everything you require to set up an internal OEM difficult drive (not a lot, but at least you dont need to have to get anything else - unless you want a firewire800 cable)-cool blue led-stands nicely with or with out included stand-remains at a decent temperature and not at risk of obtaining too hot even with out a fan -sliding the drive bay in and out seems to scratch the inner surface of the tray (only the sliding mechanism although - not the actual insides of the case)-cables May well be too brief depending on intended setup-cost could be a small steep but i feel its worth it -overall a definitely solid case that does almost everything an external enclosure needs to - even without having a fan-would absolutely suggest to a friend who is willing to shell out a couple a lot more bucks than usual to get a sharp looking case

Fantastic case, supports firewire which is all I genuinely care about. That blue LED is incredibly annoying. For such a classy case, it's a terribly tacky addition. See below on how to get rid of it. I absolutely can not stand a bright blue light in my bedroom when I'm trying to sleep so I did a bit of surgery.Snip the green wire that goes from the energy button to the controller board. I got lucky with my very first guess thankfully and no far more blue LED!

Looks wonderful next to my macbook pro, silent, effortless to install. I right away transfered 80G to the drive when I connected it (using time machine). Right after that massive of a transfer, I expected it to be significantly hotter then it was, particularly because it doesn't have a fan. The aluminum case did the trick of keeping the drive cool. I highly recommend this enclosure. You can't beat what you get for the price. Other then the truth that it doesn't support firewire 800 (which I already knew).

It's a solid lightweight external case of shiny aluminum. It is uncomplicated to open Ɩ screws), and has a slide in style, so you don't have to fumble with internal cables. It takes less than 2 min to install/replace a tough drive. The energy button is located on the front for straightforward access, and it looks excellent with my Mac Pro. The blue energy light is bright, but not a bedroom beacon like other enclosures I've noticed. Doesn't come in a Quad interface.
