Good craftsmanship! This drive is extremely effectively produced! Rapidly performance, compatibility with USB or 1394. Bus powered. Outstanding item! The screws that hold the ends on are kinda tiny and effortless to shed, as other individuals have noted. The LED light is Really vibrant. Anyone possessing problems with the drive scraping the enclosure, double examine and make confident you have the bottom tray riding in the groove properly. I used this with a WD Scorpio Black 鶀GB), and with a Hitachi that I pulled out of my MacBook, and it worked fine with either of them. Plenty of room! Also, as a few have noted, even although the finish screws are smaller and uncomplicated to shed, it comes with two extras (which is very good, given that I will need to use 1 of them!). Also, the screws that actually hold the drive on the base are considerably better.

I has an aluminum body and a firewire connection. It is really compact and light. The indicator tends to make a good flashlight. Don't appear straight into the blue led. Don't drop the tiny little screws when you are taking it apart. I don't know why firewire isn't a lot more common than USB.

Worked perfectly right out of the box. I bought this and a new Seagate drive to upgrade my Mac Mini. Solid construction, gets warm but not hot even with a 7200 RPM drive. I had three various drives in this more than the program of a handful of hours and no issues. The greatest plus with this box is Firewire, in my opinion. I've usually had more rapidly transfer rates vs USB two.. And considering that all my Macs have Firewire....And I like the two separate USB cables, as opposed to a Y cable. Provides you an solution if your USB connectors are not close together. None so far....of course it could have been more affordable. Newegg rocks!

- sturdy- strong aluminum situation acts as heat sink.- a number of interfaces function fantastically in a multi-platform atmosphere. - the light nevertheless is fantastically bright (not changed from PATA model)- heavier than the cheapie drives (not genuinely a con, just a trade off for efficiency and reliability.) fantastic for road warriors/techs prioritizing strength and reliability over a small quantity of portability (heavy given that its metal and not aluminum)These are my second and third instances from this line (one PATA and two SATA) and none have ever dissapointed. Highest top quality

Nice, solid case. I sought USB two. plus Firewire - regrettably this 1 only supports 1394A 鷐 MBPS), 'though in practice it really should nevertheless be considerably faster than USB two.. none I mounted a Seagate Momentus 7200 RPM 320GB SATA drive, and had none of the label-peeling issues others have mentioned. One have to be careful to get the PCB into the extruded slots in the inside of the shell when reassembling.

This device sports a really sturdy case and an can be easily opened to swap out drives in much less than a minute. I loved the look and feel of the point and as yet another reviewer stated the LED is really vibrant. The firewire did not operate on my IBM laptop. I also had to add power to the device prior to it was even observed. The cable that is shipped with the case is for a six pin fire wire female connector my laptop has a four wire connector, therefore I had to also invest in a 6 pin to four pin cable in order to connect the device. Sadly I am returning the device for a refund given that I was searching forward to the firewire speeds due to the quite a few ISO pictures I require to carry for my profession.

Aluminum enclosure makes a great heat sink. I like the fact that there is an on/off switch. Solidly produced with rubber strips that maintain it from sliding about on a desk. Don't will need a separate power cord, power from FireWire run it. As quite a few other people have stated, the LED is blinding. I have a 500 GB WD drive in it that I use for the Time Machine feature on my MacBook Pro. It is turned on whenever my MBP is on. In the 9 or ten months I've owned it, it's racked up a couple thousand hours and has in no way dropped the connection or failed in any way. I'm purchasing a second 1 to day to put a scratch disk in for video editing.

This case is made well, light not also brilliant for me, blue blinks to red to indicate activity. none but To those having trouble ripping drive label off due to "overly tight" fit: Did you discover the two little guide wings that are for holding the board down? If you mistakenly put the board ABOVE those wings, you WILL have a tight fit, and rip the label as I began to do. Pull the board out, reposition it lower, below the wings, and there is no contact w the top rated. At least w my Seagate 500G.

Straightforward to see at a glance if a information transfer is completed or not. - High priced.- Heavy (Solid Alluminum) I personal six of these all together, 4 PHRS250CC and 2 PHR250CC. Immediately after i got my second 1, I had to acquire a label maker to tell them all apart. I adore this product.

Solid feeling case, connections feel good and secure. The 2 rubber strips on every single side of the case make it good for resting on points gently. The drive screws onto the sliding tray, as opposed to numerous situations that just let the drives rest in the case. There is a high pitched wining when the drive is accessed. I know its the case not the drive as I switched drives in it. Its a tiny annoying, but nothing that isn't drowned out by technique fans or music. The red/blue LED for indicating power/activity is a bit vibrant in a dim area. But not truly an problem worth bothering about.

This enclosure is very solid and nicely built. For getting constructed of aluminum, it seems quite solid. This also has rubber strips on the bottom (and leading, for stacking), which offer exceptional anti-vibration properties. This also has a assortment of interfaces on the back (USB, 1394). - Like other men and women have stated, the light on this enclosure is Vibrant! You could almost certainly use this enclosure as a flashlight.- This enclosure also has a little heating difficulty. (Depending on the drive you have), When transferring massive files, do count on your enclosure to turn out to be a little hot.- The screws on the side of the enclosure are pretty smaller and can be cumbersome to install. Fortunately macally contains spare screws in case you shed them. I had no difficulty putting my drive into the enclosure. I don't see why other individuals did. Open it up, gently spot the drive "into" the sata connectors, then close it up.macally also employed to ship their two.five" enclosures with a faux leather sheath, which was good when you wanted to carry it in a crowded laptop bag and didn't want to scratch your enclosure.I also tend to be genuinely picky with the cons, this case getting a great instance. Take them lightly; this is nevertheless a 5-egg product!

Small, appears rugged. The rubber strips preserve the unit from sliding all more than. The efficiency on USB isn't negative, I don't know about FireWire although (see cons.) The included USB power-only cable has a tiny little connector on the end, so you can power the unit with USB but use FireWire for performance. However, mine doesn't work and I only discovered this soon after the NewEgg exchange expired. Make certain you check just about every connection out of the box. I wouldn't get one more a single. Now I have to attempt to get the Manufacturer to replace this 1..

USB functions fine. Firewire is Extremely unreliable. It will work for a minute (almost by no means any longer) and then the status light goes red for several minutes. It shouldn't take more than an hour to transfer a single 1GB file to a 320GB Hitachi drive operating at 7200 RPM. Bought 5. One particular functions right after a month. The excellent control of Macally solutions has been terrible. 2 of 3 keyboards of separate models came with dead keys, a total of two of 8 firewire drive enclosures worked after a month. This tends to make no sense. At least their mice seem to operate.

--It's uncomplicated and straight-forward to use. I'd by no means replaced a HDD prior to and so had never put a HDD into an external enclosure and I had no problems whatsoever with this.--It's quick, I assume. I was in a position to clone my 160 gb HDD in about three hrs through firewire. I don't know how that stacks up with other stats, but it seemed fast to me. --I wish I didn't have to plug it into a USB port for energy. I've got an early 2008 Macbook Pro. I don't know if firewire can be powered or not, but it would've been good to just plug in one particular cord. This enclosure couldn't be much easier to use. I didn't have any of the tight-fit difficulties that other people have talked about. I just opened it up, put the new HDD in, cloned my drive onto it, and then switched the HDDs. Uncomplicated as pie.

Tight fit for the HD - but I think about that's intentional as it will assist transfer the heat away from the drive.Straightforward to do. Just push the drive in location and screw it back together. Two minor issuesɅ) Firewire connection is loose. When I hook it up, leave it on a flat surface and don't touch it, no dilemma. BUT, if I move it at ALL, the wire pops loose - generally correct in the middle of a file transfer. Not that major of a deal, specially when you think about that I have the similar concern with several other drives with the very same connection.2) The indicator light can be utilized to land a 747. It is seriously so vibrant it's funny. I don't believe they could make this factor any brighter. When I transfer files, it flashes from red to blue. There is undoubtedly no question as to whether this guy is performing anything! Again, not that huge of a deal. I don't leave it plugged in when I am not transferring files. I guess in a pinch I could cover it up with some black electrical tape or some such. Good item with minor flaws (minor for me).Fantastic price tag.

I've been making use of this enclosure for much more than 3 years now, switching drives possibly twice. I have utilised it a lot transferring data from 1 machine to one more by way of firewire and USB. It's delightfully smaller, feels solid to the touch and is well created. I have a second enclosure by Macally for three.five"/optical drives, that I've also had for a couple of years. It too has given me no issue. The company has shown itself with at least the two products I've gotten to be trustworthy so I had no difficulty ordering a third enclosure right now for a third drive that would deal with USB, eSATA, and 1394. The blue activity light is really vibrant and alternates from blue to red when data is being transferred. One could very easily wear sunglasses if getting to watch it for any length of time.Absolutely nothing massive, but I wouldn't mind having the selection to have black anodized aluminum for color selections instead of the natural aluminum
