AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons:Same old OEM fan and heatsink, but no surprise there.

Pros:CheapGood for putting into an older motherboard (where supported)
Comment:
Threw this into an old Asus M3N78-VM motherboard after updating the bios to support it. It replaced a Athlon 64 X2 5200+ in a HTPC that had some new life put into it with a new SSD boot drive and video card and is working like a charm. It feels like a whole new machine!Unfortunately my aftermarked cooler on the 5200+ only supports up to 90 watt processors, this one is 95 so I have to use the stock one for now. It seems to be working ok, the fan is just a little louder. I didn't want to take the risk of overheating it, even if it is only over the rating by 5 watts. I plan to eventually upgrade the cooler.

Comment:
Low price! Efficiency is slightly greater then Phenom II X4 920 and X4 940 even devoid of the further 6MB cache. 7.three windows 7 index (but who cares suitable)Runs somewhat cool. Original Heat Sink is a joke but no worse than that junk that Intel ships with their Quad and dual core 775 series. Not taking an egg for it due to the fact every self respecting Computer enthusiast utilizes aftermarket coolers:-) Works wonderful (so far) in XFX 750a SLI motherboard. In fact the motherboard CPU help list does not consist of this CPU as supported but it worked suitable out of the box. Excellent for any home or office system.

Comment:
I have employed two of these processors now in two separate builds and the performance is outstanding. A single was used in a Media Server which does lots of trans-coding, downloading, and streaming of media all at the identical time. It has simply held up under this load. My second use of this CPU was in my private gaming rig and it handles everything that I run at as soon as with ease. I have my games going, mIRC, Teamspeak, and any other applications going at the very same time without having any detriment to my gaming practical experience. I currently have a mild overclock going @ 3.4GHz, just sufficient to get some added out of the silicon. I see a WEI of 7.four with this CPU. The stock heatsink is really sad. For my gaming rig I used an aftermarket heatsink but for the media server I built I went with the stock cooler and say about ten-15 degrees larger temps. AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons:none

Pros:Was lucky to get one that could unlock hidden 6MB L3 cache. Cheap.
Comment:
Bought this on sale for $59. I was able to unlock the hidden 6 MB cache, making it a Deneb. I was also able to overclock it to 3.75 GHz, which was a bonus. Could've easily overclocked it to 4.0+ GHz if I put in a Hyper 212 Plus/Evo after market cooler. Using it mostly for gaming, surfing, email, and even school work. Just love it. It's the best bang for the buck value. Definitely recommend it.

Runs quite cool...have it in a silent personal computer and idles at 16 Celcius, beneath load gets up to about 30. Is blazing quickly. AMD stock heatsink and fan is not as nice as what they employed to provide with their processors. Am employing a 25 dollar artic cooling silent cooler on it, not the stock cooler.

A lot more of a side-step coming from a Phenom 9850 BE, but all about it's a fantastic processor. It does process encoding/decoding algorithms substantially quicker than my 9850 did. I have no complaints thus far. Can't wait till I get my hands on an AM3 board to full the transition. None. None.

Value, 4 cores, quiet, low wattage for low power consumption, no-surprises installation I can't set up it in my brain to make me smarter. I have this CPU on a GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H mobo with 4GB RAM & Win 7 Pro 64-bit. This is my wife's home office computer system which also acts as our DLNA server (using TVersity) and network file server for three other PCs and a PS3. She can use it for simultaneous browsing, downloading, encoding, listening and a lot more, all while I watch a movie on the PS3 or look at photographs, and so on. This CPU handles it all devoid of a hiccup. The CPU fan is quiet, it runs cool, and her complete technique, complete with 3 tough drives only uses about 65 watts through typical use. This CPU is an incredible worth for the money, particularly for residence networking / media uses.

Wonderful processor for the price. Although Intel is genuinely undertaking a wonderful job in the 赨 or so price range this quad core for 贄 is completely exceptional for spending budget builds. Was for a buddy but temps stayed cool though I had it. Thermal paste would be nice but that's not actually a con because it's sector standard.

I enjoy this CPU. Coming from a single core planet, I can not think how responsive the thing is. Not all applications can take advantage of the quad core architecture, but those that do genuinely fly.I was debating between this CPU and the Phenom, but am really happy with the X4 640. I put it into a HTPC case, so obtaining the lower energy 95W core makes it easier to keep cool and puts much less demand on my small energy supply. Not the cutting edge. This is a good decision for constructing a low expense efficiency Computer. It competes on par with CPUs costing significantly more and uses less energy. At this value point it is tough to beat.

Excuse some spelling was in a hurry, paired with ASUS M4A785-m mobo, eight gigs mem, EVGA 240GT, 650 watts PSU creative sound card its plenty quickly for me and I play alot games on my Computer, no consoles for this gamer. And with NEWEGG costs and free fast shhipping, did I mention NEWEGG was freakin awsome. I love my new setup, thanx Newegg we'll be carrying out more small business!

Runs cool. Great value. None so far. This is my second overview following possessing run this CPU for almost 3 months now. Contrary to what the other people are saying right here, I am locating that the stock cooler is totally sufficient for most gaming and quantity crunching uses that 99% of customers will run into.I have a HTPC case which doesn't have room for an oversize CPU cooler so I required to use the stock cooler.I am utilizing CPUID HWMonitor to measure temperatures.I have run 4 simultaneous threads of Prime95, and with the stock cooler it gets up to 50C. With every single game that I have run so far, it by no means gets above 40C.The one particular assume I did do was remove the stock thermal grease and use a *thin* bead of Arctic Silver. Other than that, it is entirely stock. The lengthy and short of it is that this CPU runs cool and the stock heatsink is completely adequate. I stick to my 5 egg rating.

Beats my Intel 4500 core two duo. I'm not a gamer but this operates excellent for multi-tasking. Runs a bit hot but with some minor adjustments to my case fans it holds at 68 degrees F with the stock cooler as I'm writing this. Wish I had bought a Phenom

Low priced Quad-Core CPU No L3 cache, doesn't overclock nicely. I purchased this thinking it was very easily OC'ed due to the fact it has so a lot of evaluations. Max i could get it was 3.58 GHz and this is at 1.55V using Xigmatek Dark Knight. Not undesirable for the price, but there are clearly better selections at the identical (or less expensive) price. Why are so several men and women purchasing this?

This thing flies previous my Phenom 8650, and laps it about 20 instances. Let's place it this way. I run WCG on both PCs. My principal rig (Phenom 8650) runs 24ǝ and generates about 5000 BOINC points in that time frame. My parent's rig, with this processor installed, runs about 14 hours a day generates about 6500 BOINC points. Yeah, this thing is certainly taking my CPU and giving it an old fashioned beat down! The stock heatsink fan on this thing is LOUD! I've gotta replace it on my parent's rig, otherwise we're all going to go crazy! You won't regret buying this processor. It's a really great piece for any AMD create.

Very rapidly CPU, can\'t inform any distinction in between this 1 and my Phenom 955 with most applications (only some recent games, video conversion, and benchmarks are only slightly slower with the Athlon II 640). Runs A lot cooler than the Phenom (about 10-15C with similar CPU cooler). Got it for ๰ with a cost-free Biostar A770E ATX mobo at MC (sorry Newegg!). Rates a 7.three on the W.E.I. (same as my 955 at stock). For the cost/performance, are you kidding? I originally got an Athlon II x2 250 which is essentially half of this CPU. Since I don't truly use any programs that use far more than two cores, I didn't count on a lot of a difference but wanted a quad to tie me over til the Bulldozers are released. I was surprised to come across there was very a distinction in speed of Windows 7 boot up occasions and everyday use. Even though I don't use multi-threaded applications substantially, Windows 7 is multi-threaded and it did make a speed distinction though the dual core was the similar clock speed per core (with additional cache per core)!
