AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons: stock fan not adequate for heavy overclocking (obviously)

Pros: Runs coolapparently overclocks fairly wellGood price/performance4 cores
Comment:
After a lot of research, this seems to be a great processor for the price. In it's price range, it was either this or an i3 530/540. The i3 seems to perform better in games that aren't multi-core friendly, but in any application or game that's multi-threaded, the 4 cores seems to perform better than the i3's 2 cores. Considering more games are starting to support more cores, this seemed to be like the better choice.I also like the fact that the AM3 socket is more upgrade friendly compared to Intel. Seems as if Intel keeps switching sockets while AMD will continue to use AM3 for a while.

AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons: - Small Cache memory- Heatsink (but what can we expect of a stock heatsink??)

Pros: - Performance for the price- Overclocking possibilities
Comment:
I used this processor for an internet browsing / word processing / everyday computing / video streaming to TV build. It delivers a good performance for the price, even for video games at moderate settings. This CPU is also perfect for an HTPC build and offers great multitasking possibilities. Recommended!

AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons: none

Pros: Quad core at a good stock speedPrice
Comment:
Put this in an ASUS M4A88TD-M, along with 4 GB of G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Ripjaws. It made a really nice "general use" computer. Amazing how much processing power you can get for $100. No overclocking on this machine and it doesn't need any additional speed. It's a great performer at 3 GHZ.

Cons: Only 2MB cache

Pros: Quad Core, AM3, Value

Solid processor for a medium computer build. Great for multitasking. Cache could be a little bigger but other than that it works well.

AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons: Low Cache

Pros: Price is good
Comment:
I put this in my HTPC build. I know quad core is a bit too much for an htpc but it was only a bit over $100 anyways where as a dual core would cost me about $70 still. I tried overclocking it just to test how much it will go. I went to 3.7ghz stable on prime for 10 hours. I put it back to stock as i dont need the overclock, i was just testing it. Overall it is a decent cpu.

AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons: - Not really a weakness but it comes as usual with a worthless cpu heatsink so get urself something like a CoolerMaster 212 Plus for 23$ instead.- No L3 cache though you can't complain much for the price and it doesn't really affect performance on most things.

Pros: - Quad-core at 3.0Ghz 45nm for only 100$, that's a steal!- Low heat with good overclocking capability according to the reviews online. Haven't tryed yet.- Support AM2+ and AM3 motherboards so you can easily pair it with a 60$ motherboard which makes a huge computer upgrade for almost nothing.

The no-name PSU of my sister died and killed her socket 939 board along with her HDD. She had a Athlon64 3500+ (Singlecore) so I bought her this with a AM3 Micro-ATX board, 2x2Gb of DDR3, new psu... and for 300$ she now haves a computer 6x faster! That's dirt cheap and really worth it.At a similar price you only get a dual-core from Intel so it's a no brainer decision.

AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons: no L3 Cache, but it is an Athlon and not Phenon series

Pros: 3.0 Ghz x 4 cores for about a hundred bucks. Pretty sweet.
Comment:
Great way to add four cores without hitting the bank. Combined with Asus M4A88TD-M for a great all round budget build with all the features required (non-gaming machine). Excellent buy.

AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons: None.

Pros: Inexpensive, good bang for the buck.
Comment:
I bought this to put in a budget system I was building for my daughter, but the case for the system was on backorder. I tried it out in my system just for kicks, and ended up swapping CPU's with her. I had a Phenom II 550 BE in my system, and figure this CPU will be better for me as I do several things at the same time. The Windows Experience index went from 6.5 to 7.1 in the CPU category, with no other changes made to the system.I'm not a gamer, so can't compare the two processors that way.We have one more older AM2 system we are thinking of retiring that has good DDR-2 800 RAM in it, and will likely purchase one more of these.

AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Cons: -could run cooler (should of been produced at even lower voltage it runs at 0.075 volts lower than retail easily)

Pros: -rather fast-low power for number of cores and clock speed-can run overclocked with lower voltage-low operating temp
Comment:
This CPU is very good value, 4 cores and lower power use than other CPUs with a similar clock speed. Either I got an amazing CPU or they are all running at higher voltages AKA more power use than required as it runs at -0.075volts lower than retail stable. In fact I ran this 3.0Ghz at 3.184Ghz for over an hour at lower voltage stress testing with Super PI and Prime95 with updated version that runs all 4 cores testing and no errors. I run at 3.105Ghz for normal use no crashes or errors while running at 32C idle and 53C load at 24C ambient in a mATX case. At retail voltage the temps were around 34c idle and 57c load. Remember this is a mATX case and CPUs run hotter than in my ATX case I had. I didn't test over 3.2Ghz speed but retail voltages at even 3.2Ghz appear to be completely stable.
