This is a single of the very rare consumer-level boards that supports VM Direct Path / PCI Passthrough in VMWare ESXi. This sets it apart from competitors for "prosumers" and uber geeks like me. :) None that I have identified so far. Operates like a champ!

Really nice motherboard. I like the layout. There's a lot of room for huge CPU coolers. Making use of a CAFA70 only 1 RAM slot is covered. There are really a few OC controls. Everytime I get rid of power from the PSU (disconnect AC), the next boot the POST will say "MemOK succeeds in booting" and it clears almost all of the BIOS settings. Looking at the Asus forums, this is apparently a widespread challenge for which Asus supplies no remedy. It still always remembers the time and date at least. There is some speculation that it has to do with video cards that have PCI-E energy connectors tripping the CPR for some cause. I have two such cards in my setup.

Replaced a P6T v2 with this a single. Not a single problem. Will accept the processor on my wish list, the mighty Intel 6 core Gulftown. I just don't like the cheapness of the plastic utilised for the sata connectors, but thats most boards, so no eggs off for that one particular. I am sooooooo ready for spring time!

It worked out of the box!I'm hoping it's as future-proof as they claim. Time will tell. None so far. The motherboard worked at very first startup. I didn't have any bent pins or anything go incorrect so far. The Asus Q-Shield worked perfectly.

Third or fourth Asus motherboard and I continue to be happy. Identified every thing I required on the website and in the BIOS easily and everything was easy to hook together.I wish I had some USB three. devices or that the SSD I'd gotten was SATAIII so that I could use these capabilities! Spend focus to the RAM slots and how they're numbered! It's typically 121212, but this is 212121. I'll accept my Dumb-Dumb Award for not bothering to read the section on RAM in the manual (which does appropriately label them), but I'd believed 121212 was standard.I did notice that I've had to re-set up the BIOS a few as well several instances while troubleshooting some RAM troubles. Only requires a couple of seconds though and I wouldn't ordinarily have to do this all the time. I went with a single potent card as opposed to two weaker graphics cards. It's ridiculous trying to install two g.cards on any motherboard without ruining the capability to plug into sound/network cards.Intel i7 950ASUS P6X58D-ESapphire HD5870 2GBNZXT Phantom

Worked write out of the box. Great motherboard. StableWould highly suggest.Reading other reviews/other sites regarding memory problems and harddrive concerns did the following:Memory was initially recognized at slower speed, but a fast correction in the bios, now runs a full speed. For Harddrive use SATA 6GB cables, plug into SATA 3 port on board and in bios set storage configuration to "AHCI". None at all. It is just a great board. two PCI instead of the normal 1. Has a power button on the board itself. Has a memory ok button that helps the board detect your variety of memory and lights up when incorrect. I installed a dual slot graphics card like most individuals would, and that covers up the additional PCI slot - no major deal. The BIOS isn't as straightforward to configure as my last motherboard. Doesn't come with additional USB ports to set up separate from the built-in. You will most most likely have to manually set the frequency of your memory, but I didn't attempt the autodetect button on the board.I utilised one particular of the PCI-E x16 slots for my 1x sound card - performs perfectly.

Seemed to be a good board when I got it but located out otherwise.. Onboard Intel RAID controller was buggy from the 1st day.- RAID Ư - 4x WD Cav Blue 500GB. Computer periodically locked up. Only way to recover was tough restart. On challenging restart controller indicated drives were poor. Tried replacing drives, no adjust. Upgraded all drives to WD Cav Black, no modify. Changed to RAID five, no modify. Named Warranty support @ ASUS. Looks like I have to mail my board into their store for a 2-three week repair. Guess I will be with out my expensive desktop for about a month. What a bad experience.

A person place a lotta thought into generating this thing, and succeeded.Future proof.Awesomely stable, incredible overclocking characteristics.Fitting a King-size CPU cooler is not a difficulty at all.I really like it. Its not totally free :D Using this with an I7 950, Patriot Viper II Sector 7, MSI N460GTX Twin Frozr II. Zero compatibility concerns. Not genuinely an issue, but worth mentioning: side mount SATA ports can be a bit difficult to reach after the Mobo is assembled, (might depend on the case), not an concern soon after a bit of practice. A definite plus for cable management. 2 bottom SATA ports may well be unusable on a 3x SLI.Running 2(or 3) massive video cards is a tight fit. As it is with any other.

Excellent motherboard, quite effortless to setup, has everything you require. I'm nevertheless running default bios and it has issues. Below Windows 7, at times the pc doesn't boot immediately after entering sleep mode. The Bios freezes. Removing and reinserting) or just disconnecting for a couple of seconds) the CMOS battery aids. Kind of annoying.

I've had this motherboard for about two weeks now. I haven't run into any complications. Installing components was completed with ease, and I've been playing games ever because. I had to apply some significant pressure to seat the monitor on the standoffs. I was fairly worried about breaking it. The rear i/o plate bent a bit in the method, but this produces no troubles with any inputs. Might be the case; YMMV.

Other than the memory difficulties, every little thing else seems to work. I bought this for a Ubuntu box and it installed automatically. My primary issue with this motherboard is that I cannot get a lot more than 2Ǚ of the memory installed to work. I put in 3 sticks of GSkill F3-12800CL6T-6GBPI and the motherboard and Linux read it as around four GB instead of 6. 6 sticks were read as around 8 GB. This memory worked fine in my ASUS Rampage III Extreme.I then decided I wanted additional memory (I function with 3D graphics and want to use virtualization to also run Windows), so I bought two sets of GSkill F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL for a total of 24 GB. When I put in a single set of 3 I see only 8 GB, when I put in each sets I see 16 GB.I've tried working with the automatic BIOS settings and also the XMP settings, and neither helps. There are some tight places where connectors and jumpers must be put, but I suppose that occurs with all motherboards now.And regrettably due to my scenario (I'm my wife's complete-time caregiver) I didn't get time to finish the technique until right after the 30 day period had elapsed.I purchased this motherboard simply because of a bundle. Now I wish I'd gone a different way. I'd have in all probability nonetheless bought ASUS even though, I've had very good results with their goods - this is the initial challenge I've had.

Upgradability: future proof for years as lengthy as you are not one of those who have to have (and can afford) the finest of the greatest. This board is ready for a 6-core cpu, can take up to 24gigs of ram and is SLI and so on. . . . whens that gonna get outdated? Comes with OC software program. It worked for me with zero concerns for my first ever create. I am really happy with it so far and would advise this to everyone. It does not read my mind nor fetch me a beer. It's worth mentioning once more: Make certain to allow X.M.P. in the BIOS if your ram needs it. Study read study! make sure every thing you want to put together will operate together! My 1st time experience was sweet, I'm nonetheless in the after-glow.

Feature-wealthy, very good layout, hardly needed to bother with the manual. A USB3 connection on the board, for front panel USB3, would be nice. Also the AMI BIOS isn't fairly up to smooth handling of the most recent PCI-e SSDs, such as the OCZ Revodrive, as a bootable device. This is the fourth model of Asus mobo I've built on in the past 2 years -- they have all been trouble-free. This one got an i7-950, 6GB of G-Skill Ripjaws+ PC316000, and is running Linux at four.22GHz, idling at 40 degrees C.

good layout - ample connectors poor x58 implementation with resultant memory recognition problems. utilizing 3 diverse memory configs, all on qvl, memory recognition and running at rated speed poor. Consistently drops four meg out of 12 Ɩ x two meg corsair ddr3) and two meg of 6 Ɠx2) GSkill ddr3. will not even post properly consistently when running 1600 at 1333 !! XMP setting no support. manual infers can\'t run 6 x two 1600 and requirements to be stepped down, but advertises 1600 as a rated speed for board, then the *&&^% stepdown does not even perform consistently. i know x58 was not intel's finest hour memory management wise, but i replaced with an additional board that begins with a "G" and ram posted just fine (all 3 sets) and all passed memtest. bottom line, stay away from this board, Asus ain't what it applied to be. nada

Future proof Future proof, if the product last lengthy enough. It's a solid mobo when it operates correctly. The defect ratio of this mobo seems to be greater than typical. Mine concern has to do with blurriness of display. Immediately after spent hours on the telephone with PNY Quadro tech support ( Quadro is costly, but the tech support is 1st class) testing and troubleshooting. It turns out the matter is this mobo. A superior quality manage would have caught it just before shipping it out. Note to Asus, please enhance your QC procedure. Ship defective products to consumer is waste of time and money for both buyers and Asus. This is my first Asus product, and in all probability will be my last.

Plenty of room about the CPU socket. I have a Zalman Extreme mounted and it doesnt even cover the first memory slot. Have employed each SATA two & three in a RAID setup with no complications at all. Anything I've installed gas been recongnized by Windows7 x64. Overclocking the CPU is incredibly straightforward with out a lot added voltage or heat. Bios has only been updated twice, meaning they got it suitable the initial time. Set "XMP" in bios and memory is running at 1600mhz with no problem. Enjoy the appear of this board. A lot OF SATA PORTS!!!!!!! Wish the two PCI-E two x 16 wern't side by side, Would have had far better air flow for GPUs in SLI if they had been spread out. Setting "XMP" in bios for your memory does set the voltages alittle high. I went back into bios and turned the core volts and memory buss volts back down. Have no "red" marks and no troubles with anything at all.

Look at the specs AND the pictures of the board just before you comment! None It's got 6 normal internal SATA ports, and two - 3 Mb/s ports onboard. That's a total of 8 SATA ports on this MOBO. How do you make a negative comment about a very rated board and not even appear at it OR the specs?
