Solid router with loads of selections with DD-WRT computer software which is nicely supported via Wiki. Strong signal with little to no lag or interference. Good looks that beg it to be left in the open. Stock firmware blows compared to newest DD-WRT. I've purchased 2 Buffalo's in the last month and flashed each with updated on the net builds due to stability of stock DD-WRT firmware. Fortunately the procedure is rather uncomplicated, but they must come this way out of the box IMO. I'm a small new to the world of residence networking, but this thing set up sweet with the support of a couple Wiki searches on DD-WRT. If you're searching for a easy plug and play router that has a 1 button set up, appear elsewhere. If you're looking for a solid wireless N router and don't thoughts a little leg function to set up correctly, Add to Cart now. You won't uncover a far better deal elsewhere....that stated if this thing cooks anytime soon, I will repost with negative critique but I've had very good luck with Buffalo & the cost is appropriate!Newegg, I think I like you!

400MHz CPU. 64MB RAM. 32MB Flash. USB assistance for printers or NAS. Gigabit ports for LAN and WAN. 300mbps wifi. DD-WRT support. Good range and speed more than Wifi. Assistance for several SSIDs on the same MAC address. Fairly great cost when it is on sale. No VLAN help on constructed in switch. DD-WRT devs are working on this. If you want to run a number of SSIDs and separate IP ranges, this has to be carried out on L3 instead of L2. I would choose to set up separate VLANs for every SSID, but you can accomplish the identical thing with iptables ACLs and separate DHCP servers for each subif. Factory installed DD-WRT had concerns loosing the DHCP lease from Cox. I did a 30ቺቺ reset and re-flashed the firmware and all is effectively now. I am a network admin that mainly offers with Cisco gear at work. If this had VLAN assistance (access, not trunk) it would be a excellent item that competes with high finish Cisco gear. As of right now Ƒ-ten-11) the LAN ports are not differentiated, so you can not do VLAN access ports or assign QoS based on ethernet ports. The LAN ports are all seen by the router as eth0. You can on the other hand assign QoS based on service port (TCP, UDP, ICMP), device MAC address, or IP address (or CIDR block).

Feature rich particularly for its cost. Fantastic range with constant 200Mbps+ speeds. Extremely slick searching unit with sensible LED indicators. Its been rock solid for over 6 months straight, not 1 reboot! Xbox, PS3, and my Android phones all function flawlessly. No way to attach various antennas. Not that I needed it but the choice would have been welcomed. Working with DD-WRT v24 preSP2 Beta Create 14896 firmware. To be truthful I never even tried default firmware. The only 'flaw' with the firmware is it lacks a samba sharing web gui. I had to use a startup script instead to configure samba to share my attached USB drive. It only took 10 secs to copy, previous n save. All my win/linux machines access it perfectly so I cant complain. I don't know what to say about peoples poor expertise with this router, I'm ordering a 2nd one for a buddy right after I write this!

Functions properly when it is operating, wonderful range, fantastic speed. Need to have to energy cycle it just about every day. Speed slows to a crawl, can not access via routers IP address and have to pull the plug for a minute.

Quite easy to set up. I am utilizing this as an AP for a modest workplace for when out customers come in from out of town. It has a great range covering nearly 200 sqft per floor, on two floors. No Buffalo antenna selection. This would also operate fantastic for a household use as there is the option to add a external USB challenging drive and use it as a wireless NAS. A lot of large features for a tiny device with a small cost.

Lengthy range and quick. XBOX 360 on other side of property only had about 60% signal with earlier router(Linksys). Setup this 1 and have 100% signal. Outstanding range and has decent security possibilities. Took forever to get IP address from Modem. Would give it five stars if it wouldn't have had any problems finding an IP prior to timing out through initial setup. Had troubles getting an IP address from Cable Modem. Tech Assistance was useless. They just mentioned to do everything I had currently performed. Tryed unpluging all systems from router except one particular computer and it finally got an IP. Have had zero promblems since.

I needed a DLNA server to stream my significant media collection to my ps3 and smartphone. I spent a couple days troubleshooting the 37AV, and could never get the dhcp to respond in less than a minute. The dlna server was worthless in that it could not scan files with no halting and wireless range was worse than my ฤ router I bought on woot. I returned amd bought the G300NH. I opted to install the user friendly fw as it had much more included functionality out of box. I utilised the included cd which doesn't force install software and set my network up in much less than 30 minutes, which includes mac filter table which took 30 seconds. Dlna server worked 1st attempt with wd components se 1tb drive. Range is significantly superior than 38AV.

My previous router was dropping google talk connects hourly through wired connection. This product fixed this situation. I have ten different wireless devices connectioning to this router and it has been flawless with the default settings. I have had another Buffalo router and it too worked good as well but a lightning strike killed it. I tried three other routers more than the past year prior to going back to Buffalo… None

Functions wonderful. Loaded the newer version of dd-wrt and now it exceeds all expectations. Wireless range is fairly excellent and all the added alternatives you can get with the newest version of dd-wrt are amazing. antennas can not be removed or upgraded. Not a lot of an problem given that the range is good but I like getting the choice greatest router for the income on this sight.

It is reasonably effortless to set up and upgrade the firmware - whether or not DDWRT or the stock version.Wired connection is solid. Absolutely quicker than my older router in this regard. Drops connection and the wifi is SLOW. Slower than my WRT-54G that it replaced.I've tried all sorts both the stock Firmware and DD-WRT with this router and I have the exact same issues (slow web connection on Wifi) that the WRT 54G does not have, even although it is a 6 year old router. I haven't utilized the NAS with this (I use OSX). I can't think about it operating nicely more than the high quality of wi-fi that I'm finding.

I use nails rather, operate fine. This has replaced the WRT-54GL as my goto router for the funds. I like to set as AP and use DHCP forward so all devices are on identical subnet. Remeber to use AES for encryption. Must see about 260Mbps+

In eight months of usage this router (used in AP mode) has in no way once dropped a connection. It has never required a restart or power cycle. The log has not recorded a single corrupt packet. It's been certainly positively rock solid. The range is phenomenal. In 40MHz mode it maintains 300Mbit connections 90% of the time. The other 10% is in no way lower than 240Mbit. The one particular minor gripe I have with this is that it drops back to 20MHz channel operation 鳂Mbit) the moment it detects interference with another radio. I relocated it to the basement to lessen its tendency to detect interference, which has been largely effective. It's so effective that receivers show 5 bars everywhere in the home (on the second floor too) and for a respectable distance outside. It's regrettable that this utilizes 2.4GHz N-band only. Buffalo seems to be a bit behind the power curve in its lack of 5GHz goods as of early 2011. Since I've lately added a Roku XDS and a LG Tv with 5GHz receivers I had to acquire one more AP that has 5GHz capability. (a Netgear WNDR3700 that I don't like nearly as significantly as this.) So while I can extremely advise this item, it IS obsolescent, and anyone with plans to stream video (anyone whose residence isn't in the center of a ten acre lot, that is) need to in all probability consider other merchandise. If Buffalo is intelligent, they'll have a dual-band router, a single as excellent as this a single, on the industry ASAP.

There are some but can\'t don\'t forget. Wireless sucks. Cuts out and loses signal with N and G. Would have kept my wrt54g instead of this. The moment the wireless goes I require to energy cycle it to operate. Typically the wireless lasts 1-2 days. I seriously wanted this router to work. I thought this router looked wonderful and had some great attributes. It only looks fantastic on paper. Right after I got it I found out the troubles the router had with dropping wifi connections. Go to the Buffalo and DD-WRT forums and examine it out for yourself. My initially buffalo router and definitely my final. Buffalo has really poor buyer service, but was told that it tends to make up in excellent goods. This router came out defective and with no client help Im left out high and dry. Im soo angry that this is truly my 1st critique on Newegg and i purchase alot of stuff for client and jobs i get. I required to say a thing so folks dont waste there difficult earned cash on garbage. Im in the market for a new N router.*Network was operating Linux and Win 7 PCs. Wireless worked somewhat on both until it lost connection and required power cycle.

DD-WRT pre-installed, gigabit ethernet, significantly a lot quicker web interface than my preceding Buffalo WHR-HP-AG108 running DD-WRT. Wifi throughput is also a lot better on 802.11g, when it functions... Wireless drops out Continuously. Want to watch a film or play a game? As well bad mainly because right after a handful of minutes your connection will stall for a handful of seconds and then drop. It is immensely frustrating.WAN becomes entirely unresponsive, has happened three times so far in the past week. Have to reboot to access web yet again. No firmware updates from Buffalo, the pre-installed firmware is nonetheless the most up-to-date readily available from Buffalo. The vertical stand is no very good, the router comes out and falls over at the slightest tug. Reading reviews & forum posts about these issues it seems my experience is not unusual. I must have carried out that prior to shopping for... It seems the DD-WRT version of this router has difficulties.Newegg has a 30-day return policy so I'll keep experimenting for a handful of more days and then RMA it as defective if it nevertheless doesn't operate.I have two older Buffalo wireless routers running DD-WRT for years and they don't have any of these troubles. It's a massive disappointment so far.

Offers you a decision of firmwares, fairly rapid Documentation could be better. Really small details to support in deciding on the ideal firmware for your application. Had a quite difficult time connecting to the web. This is supposed to have a higher powered transmitter. The old router gave me 3 bars out of five, this a single provides me four. I bought my initial Buffalo Technologies router numerous years ago simply because I read a glowing report about their tech help in a tech forum. Due to the fact then I’ve bought 4 routers from them and proposed them to clients and pals. They’ve usually been excellent routers and I never needed help. Then I bought this router. Documentation is sparse and setup problematic. When automatic mode failed, I did a manual configuration. That also failed, so I tried switching firmware to the “user friendly” version. Exact same story. Auto failed, and then manual config failed. On a Thursday afternoon (not their busiest time) I sat on hold for over half an hour. Whilst I was on hold, it identified the net and started operating. Two hours later it lost the connection yet again. I hooked up my old router, it worked fine. Tried this one particular once again and following two hours it “hooked up” once again. It’s now been 4 days and only once more did I have to reconfigure it. Obviously I have no confidence in this router any longer

The range appears very fantastic. I don't have any solid quantitative information but I carried my laptop to the corner of my property and nonetheless had two bars and a usable signal, though the speed dropped to 26Mbps. Offered the frontage and place of the home, I was about 200' away. The router is on the second floor and I have aluminum siding. I am thrilled with this result due to the fact I will in all probability be able to connect anyplace on my property and previously I had difficulty sustaining a connection in the car port (granted - significantly closer but adds a wall). In the vehicle port I am now finding three - 4 bars. The prior router is a Linksys WRT54GS with firmware that lets you improve the RF output and aftermarket antennas. My old router/firmware combo utilised to hiccup about once a week and cease moving information to the WAN side, requiring a reboot to right. The Buffalo/DD-WRT combo has been up for 12 days with no such dilemma.I elevated the RF output from 20dbm to 30 and the range enhanced as it must. There are no LEDs to show activity on the person LAN ports. For that matter, the wireless indicator blinks but does not appear to report activity, rather just a steady blink. Often I just like to see if any data is moving when I am sitting there waiting for a page to load, especially now that Win7 Technique Tray icon no longer indicates send/receive. I just purchased a Linksys E4200 and it has the very same problem. I must be the only 1 who likes visual indication of when information is moving. Some config modifications that I believed would be dynamic really necessary a reboot and DD-WRT did not tell me. For example, Access Restrictions. The support text built into DD-WRT has some discrepancies compared to what essentially happens in the configuration UI.I haven't tried the NAS but but it looks like it will be a smaller hassle. I wish it would help NTFS. I bought a single of these for residence and the far more I did with it the far more I liked it. I bought a second 1 we are working with to supply a hotspot at my local watering hole.Mine came out of the box with DD-WRT v24SP2 build 14998. I get the impression that some individuals had to flash it themselves. When I replaced the fw on my old router, I recall reading that boosting the output from the RF chip could harm it and the reason the factory didn't set them for max output was for reliability. I wonder if the failure complications some individuals are experiencing are due to the "high power" aspect of this router. I also notice most individuals with wifi dropouts report trying a variety of versions of fw. I wonder if they had the challenge before they reloaded the fw. I'm employing the fw that came pre-installed and, knock on wood, have not had that issue. One particular reviewer complained about the vertical stand. I had that issue too and discovered that if you seriously press it to get it to click into place, it is solid.

Good feature set, runs DD-WRT firmware, Gigabit and internal LAN speeds a lot quick. No jumbo frames, inexpensive antennas, Quite little paper documentation, Refuses to connect to my DroidX, Connection to DSL modem/internet is completely worthless. I attempted both firmware and the connection to the WAN side is worthless. All attempts at connecting my telephone have failed for a lot more than five minutes. The WAN has so several dropped packets it is useless. My Linksys is fine with the very same connected hardware and cables. I can't seem to identify a single N300 router with all good evaluations. Not confident what to do. May well spring for an Airport Extreme.

Operates fine when there is only one particular active connection. DD-WRT. I'm getting tired of messing with this thing. It can't manage a wireless connection and wired PS3 gaming at the exact same time. I can't even say that it can deal with 1 wireless connection as it will drop out every single once in a while. I'll be connected at 90% signal strength and suddenly shed my connection. It periodically drops my wired printer connection, and it can't keep far more than a 10sec connection with my droid2. I tried to use the NAS and my network grounded to halt. Like I said, I'm just tired of screwing with this issue. I've tried all kinds of configurations, and I just can't get everything to function. I don't count on something to automagically perform, but this router has currently taken so a lot of my time that I'd in all probability be better off just getting something else.

I've constantly liked Buffalo. I nonetheless really feel that they have some of the greatest net interfaces in the organization, and I do nevertheless enjoy the hardware. Range and signal penetration is really very good with this router, and speeds had been on the high side. But.... the entire dual band/single SSID and the inability to force the router to a single band (say...5ghz only, or two.four only with N speeds) is a deal breaker. There are a number of mobile devices which have connectivity difficulties with dualband/single SSID solutions, and a few of the vendors (Apple, for one particular) have confirmed that this causes troubles. That's a deal breaker for routers that will see high traffic from devices that fall into the category. Fantastic luck finding any type of assistance or troubleshooting this issue with Buffalo (Is it poor when Apple of all firms has full documentation on an problem that Buffalo doesn't even acknowlege?) I loved my old WHR-HP-G54 Buffalo. Best router I'd ever owned. I was really searching forward to this upgrade, and following a month of fighting with it consistently I sold it to a person who will be using it in a strictly Pc laptop/wired atmosphere. If your searching for a great Mac/Mobile device wireless router, look elsewhere (Like some of the newer dual band/dual SSID Dlink boxes)
