No problems at all
Comment:
I have used this product several times now and have had no issues, it works as designed. I had the original on which worked for about 2 years then the SATA connector broke. This new design helps prevent this from happening. So far I love this thing.

Cables to Go USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial-ATA Drive Adapter Black
Cons:- no external power supply for 2.5" IDE drives

Pros:- quality construction- nice power supply with on/off switch with pilot LED- USB cable is a good length for most situations
Comment:
The adapter is very compact in size and well constructed. The IDE connections are keyed and have blocked pins (some similar units are not keyed which could cook a 2.5" drive for example). As with most electronics lately, it has a blue activity LED nicely integrated into the side of the adapter. Some similar units have a integrated SATA power & data connection - this unit ships with a 2" SATA cable to connect to the adapter. True, its an extra cable to carry however I like having SATA cable in my travel kit to cover situations where I just need the cable (in the IDE days, you could always use use one of the extra IDE connectors to image a new drive). The included power supply is 2000ma, 110-220 volt. It has molex and 3.5" SATA HDD power connectors. 2.5" IDE drives are powered via the adapter. Should not be an issue for most situations.I have read some reviews that state this unit does not work with older IDE drives. I connected a 40Gb unit with no issues. So for me, no problems so far.

Works as advertised
Comment:
I have several old IDE drives that are sitting around not being used. I was able to access drives from 800 Mb to 80 Gb. Some of the drives were set as master, some slave, and some cable select CS. I noted that some accessed faster as masters and some as slaves or CS. I had to add or remove jumpers to get the drives to respond in a timely manner.

Excellent product
Comment:
I've been needing this for some time to get files from the many hds I have around, but wanted a good one. This cable adapter has worked without a problem at all. I tried it with every type of hd and it worked great,as advertized, even worked on an old 5.25 hd. One feature I really like is the seperate power supply. Despite some bad reviews, I, with many others, have nothing bad to say about this product. I haven't found anything wrong or shoddy about it. It has worked every time. Very happy with this purchase.

This cable is awesome!
Comment:
I bought this so I could backup my data to multiple hard drives, personal data, music, and pictures each on their own and put them in the safe for my backup. I have also used this on many family, friends, and clients computers and it has worked without a hitch, other then sometimes configuring windows drive letter if the E drive was already taken. I have used it with IDE, SATA, and notebook drives with no problem, even a hard drive that was making clicking noises and dying. Recently (last weekend) my DVD burner died and I needed to burn a CD so I hooked up a spare CD burner to this cable plugged it into the USB and burned my CD without having to reconfigure anything. Simply put, this cable just works.

Avoid This Product
Comment:
Despite all the good reviews that have been posted (and keeping in mind that my last three attempts at a negative review have yet to be posted on any review website), this product has proven defective in my hands. I purchased it as a second IDE to USB device for use in my second medical office. My old device still works perfectly when linked between my dual core XP SP3 laptop and an old 20GB Winchester HD. However, the same drive when linked via the Cables to go adapter is not assigned a Windows Explorer drive letter. A warning about this exact situation is described on the cables to go technical website, but is blamed on the partitioning of the hard drive. Clearly there is nothing wrong with my HD or its partitioning, as it still functions perfectly using my old ide to USB adapter. The Cables to go product seems overengineered with to many bells and whistles. I would strontgly advise against it.

Did not work as expected
Comment:
I bought this to get some data off of a SATA drive that I had to recover and this unit wouldn't show the drive in My Computer. I eventually just used my IT department's Apricorn Drivewire IDE-SATA and that worked like a charm. I'll be picking up one of these instead. Disappointed that this one didn't work because it seems like a very useful adapter, but I will be sending it back..

A must have for anyone in the field
Comment:
This baby has saved my butt many times. It works great with 110v and 220v and the on off switch with led gives you the control you want and need when trying to salvage data from a dying HD. If you have been looking for a way to quickly connect hard drives in hand this is the device to buy.

Slick Product!
Comment:
This product was easy to hook up and use. You don't even have to read the directions if you've worked with harddrives before. Looks just like another harddrive in Windows Explorer. Everybody who plays around with computers should have one!

Slickest binvention since sliced bread
Comment:
I have a dozen IDE HDs from older XP machines, all replaced due to malfunctions, corruptions, etc., and frequently need to refer back to files on these. This cable arrangement is such easy P&P that takes just a minute to arrange, as opposed to a full mounting of a HD into the case of a machine. Highly recommend this as one of the most useful things to have laying around, just in case. Used it often during transition to new W7 high performance machine. Recommendation: Buy something like this with an integral power supply. Similar item, $5 bucks cheaper, with power supply thru USB cable DO NOT WORK. Tried one of those first. Don't waste your time.

SHOCK HAZARD - 110 Volt Power Switch Fell Apart
Comment:
I purchased this unit about a year ago and have used it a lot. It has been very handy and worked with every (good) drive I tried it on. Today I pulled it out to test a drive and found that the power switch had fallen apart creating a SERIOUS SHOCK HAZARD with the 110 volt wires exposed. The switch still worked but both sides of the cheap switch cover separated leaving a bare circuit board & switch. I used a tie wrap to hold it together until I can come up with a better solution. Be careful with this unit.

Great combo
Comment:
Very good combination of features. Used it to diagnose some hard drives without having to open a pc to gain access to connections. I only regret the sata cable is too short to be useful: I had to take one out of a pc. The plastic parts do look a bit flimsy for something that is intended to be plugged and unplugged frequently.

Nice piece of gear
Comment:
As always, you're quick to deliver. I've had 3 old drives waiting for data destruction prior to disposal, but didn't want to bother installing them one at a time to do so. This gear performed flawlessly out of the box - task done quickly and easily. But now I figure I'll use those old drives for backup rather than buy new USB drives.

Cons:none

Pros:Great DesignEasy to use
Comment:
This is my first time owning anything like this, and it was one of the things I was lacking in my Technician tool kit. I am so glad I got this, because I needed it for a customers computer. If I didn't have it, I don't know what I would do without it. This is a great buy, would buy again!

I wish I had known these cables existed sooner. I used to attach the damaged hard drive as a slave to my master drive in order to access and recover files. Now, it's just plug and play! I highly recommend this product.

Cables to Go USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial-ATA Drive Adapter Black
Cons:-Flaky powering method (powered 1tb WD black SATA2 drive but did not power Seagate Barracuda 500 gb)

Pros:-For troubleshooting/backup needs
Comment:
Good product for quick data transfer/back up needs. Not for permanant external usage. Convenient because of input types (IDE, SATA to USB). Did not require drivers when plugging in Vista 64bit or XP 32 bit computer. I did run into a problem when powering different HDs (noted in Weaknesses). I thought my Barracuda was dead because I could hear the HD arm ticking inplace but i guess it did not get enough power (barracuda tested working when i put in vantec external enclosure).
