So far, I've only used this to clone an old laptop hard drive (in the machine) onto a new one (160GB, 2.5-inch IDE attached to this device). I was a little nervous forcing the drive's and the cable's connectors together, but once they were connected, it worked great. Look forward to using with other drives.

If you work on computers, you really, really need this adapter. It is easy to use and works great. This is the second adapter I purchased - loaned the other out to never be seen again - and would buy another without hesitation.

This is hands down the best gadget that I have ever purchased. I have been working on computers since the 80's and wish that I had found this device sooner. I tried the cable on three different 3.5inch IDE hard drives, an SATA laptop drive and an internal DVD burner. All worked perfectly. Just plug and play. I highly recommend this product.

I have been using this thing non stop with no trouble at all. I have recovered data from unbootable hard drives and installed programs on computers with out working CD drives. Best thirty some odd dollars I have ever spent. Worth every penny.

This is a great product. It works as stated. Has also worked successfully for me when I had a physically damaged drive with the use of a data recovery utility. I recommend highly.

I purchased this because my DVD\CD drive on my laptop had quit. I hooked the cables to a DVD\CD drive plugged them in and now I have an even faster DVD drive than I had before. I can burn CD\DVD's where before I could only burn CD's. The price was right and the product is great.

I bought this cable set on a recommendation from a friend. My old computer died and I needed to get the information off my old hard drive. The office supply store wanted $99 to do it and my 16 year old copied everything over very easily and quickly using this product. I'd recommend this to anyone who has this need.

The product worker great right out of the box. Just plug it in and access your external drive. I was able to save the data on my Maxtor external drive that died. I had to bust the plastic off the Maxtor but once I had the drive out it was easy to plug in the USB adapter and access the drive. Great item to have in your toolkit.

I've used this countless times for backing up a dying hard drive, or helping friends transfer files from one computer to the next. It's really a must-have for any neighborhood-computer-repair-guy. The power supply is fantastic to have as well, and the nice thing is, you don't need an adapter for SATA drives either. IDE Laptop hard drives will take power directly from the USB dongle as well. (So make sure you plug this directly into the computer or into a powered hub if doing old laptop recovery stuff!)

I tried an Ultra USB 2.0 drive adapter first on a partially corrupted Dell laptop drive and the Ultra could not recognize the drive. Then I tried the Cables to Go model, the drive popped up immediately in Windows Explorer and I was able to recover all the needed data. I have used it twice now to recover data from a non-bootable hard drive and it has worked both times.

Easily recovered data from my old computer with crashed motherboard. Just plug in hard drive, power up and start copying.

Often hard to tell from photos whether a device will have the right connectors, but this power supply/adaptor cable for a hard drive had all the necessary connectors and hooking it up just took a few minutes. Now a spare hard drive pulled from a fried desktop is a backup drive for my laptop, for far less than I would have paid for an external drive.

The adapter works as advertized. Very fast and stable. NOTE: If you have a stack of drives to access - it is necessary to pull the USB plug and reinstall it for each drive. This is not a drawback, just the way it works. Good product!!

I bought this item because I was tired of opening my pc and connecting hard drives just to pull off data. I had several hard drives laying around some SATA and the others Ribbon connection. The device work great on them all. I would highly recommend the unit.

When I first came across this item, I was impressed with the SATA capabilites not to mention the standard IDE. But after using the product and realizing it also supports notebook 2.5" IDE HDD!! - I knew I'd made a wise purchase! So far, product works great for all HDD platforms and I don't know how I survived without it!! Great product!!

I purchased after reading all the favorable reviews on this site. After receiving it and trying it out, i agree -- it's as good as advertised. no computer geek should be without one! when i received it i forgot about the nice inline power switch -- couldn't power up the drive and realized -- duh! -- i just needed to turn the switch on! it's a very handy tool and i highly recommend it.

I recently had my external hard-drive stop working and thought i had lost all my music and photos.I disassembled the unit and purchased a "drive adapter" .It does everything it claims to do. I was able to "fire up" my harddrive and download my music and photos into my new computer. I would recommend one for everyone that needs to recover memory from a harddrive

I wanted an external CD reader to test CD's on. I tried this with a CD reader from an old HP Vectra 98. It worked great. Have not tried with anything else. I did "chat" with cables to go to be sure did everything right. they were great. Parts all plastic and I wonder how many times something can be hooked up before something breaks. Would bluy again.

This gadget works perfectly with both IDE and SATA drives. I used it to access several old Western Digital IDE and a new SATA drives without any problems. I like this better than the drive docks as it is smaller and more portable.
