Great product for the money
Comment:
Few issues I had were for configuring for different versions of Windows. Vista will indicate that the connection is lost however, folders and data can still be accessed.

Good product

The Video and the manual say you can plug directly into pc but I could only get it to work with through my router router. Called support but was put on hold forever. Drive works great however and is fast and easy to set up onto network

Great NAS for the $$$
Comment:
I bought the DNS 321 in Dec. I put in one 1TB Seagate HD. The setup was a breeze. I just plugged it into my Router and ran the setup utility CD. Then I just mapped a network drive on each of my computers (A PC running XP and a laptop running Win7). No problems with accessing the drive from within my netowrk. The one thing I have not been able to do is the FTP, but this is not a fault of the device. I can do the FTP within my network, but can't access it yet outside. I am sure it is just some port setting I am missing. overall, I highly recommend this product.

an easy and affordable ''home server'' solution
Comment:
I was looking into some ''home server'' units by other companies. The DNS-321 provides all the basic features that I needed for my Apple computers (still working out the Time Machine backup solution). The administrative features are great for inexperienced users and for the power users out there, the box is easily hackable so you can add even more features. Very happy with my purchase and the support provided by D-Link.

Useful but with quirks
Comment:
I've been running this for over a year now with two 1TB WD drives in it. It's a good NAS to buy but it does get a bit quirky when changing some of the settings away from default. I haven't tried updating it's firmware and that might be the problem. But, running default settings with a set IP is VERY stable and consistent. I'm actually thinking about buying another one for more storage space.

DNS 321 works well
Comment:
This is a great little NAS. I stuck in 2 1TB drives. I also had problems during the formating step having the interface freeze at 94% complete like mentioned by others. But it did complete the formatting. The web interface works well for managing the DNS 321. This may not be the easiest device to set up if you limited experience with networking but I can't imagine how it could be made simpler. The device is quiet and if it not being used the disks can be can be configured to spin down to conserve power. Of course its not going to be as fast as a native disk because everything is going across the network. All in all I am very satisfied.

Added two 1T HD and ran in RAID-1, plug the ethernet cable and turn on the power. It works. The DNS-321 rocks!

Decent NAS For Home Use
Comment:
Been running 321 for 2 years on a backup battery. Using a pair of 500GB HDs. No physical issues like overheating. Boot up is kind of slow at 50 plus seconds. Shutdown is much faster at less than 10 seconds. No problems setting up jumbo frame rates between 321 and DL655 router. Large file transfer rates of 10 to 13 MB per sec using gigabit cards and CAT6 cables.

happy with product
Comment:
Purchased this with 2 - 1 TB drives and set it up RAID 1. Easy to install, and working as I hoped. The FTP server works good although would like to be able to delete the anonymous account, and would also like to change from the default port 21. It only seems to work on port 21.

Worth the price!
Comment:
I use several WiFi laptops around the house and keeping files coordinated on them really became a problem. Also access to a printer was an issue. The set up on the DNS-321 is a no-brainer which I equipped with two 1 Tb drive and configured in Raid 1 (mirror). I think it may have taken five minutes to set up. It also provides quick and easy print service to all machines. It's a good buy.

A Good Deal
Comment:
Overall this NAS does everything that we expect it to do (Network Attached Storage). This device now allow for shared storage via the network, which elimates the need for a work group. I would recommend everyone to research THEIR NEEDS and then research the product, if it matches your needs make the purchase!

good product for money
Comment:
Had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. Its setup in a raid1 configuration. Its been running now for 2 months without any issue. Did not need to upgrade any firmware on the unit. It is somewhat slow, but my network is still 100T, but have heard the jump to gige doesn't make that much of a difference. Possibly a nice enhancement or feature would be a direct connection (ssh or telnet) with the ability to move directories or files. Maybe its there somewhere hiding, but haven't found it yet. If you need to move files around in the same drive, it needs to bring it back and force from the client side.

would not recomment

i would not recommend this product.. ITS DOES NOT SUPPORT AN NTFS FILE SYSTEM.. it reformats any drive you stick in it! you will lose all of your files if you don't back them up prior to sticking them in the enclosure.

Worked as advertised, exactly what I needed.
Comment:
I was looking to replace an aging computer that I was using as a file server. This exactly met my needs and was incredibly easy to setup for someone that is moderatly experienced with setting up LAN's and with an existing network. I used two 1TB drives in a raid 1 configuration (mirroring data) to provide a backup for files on my existing PC. Getting the auto-email working was a bit trickier until I abandoned the attempts to use gmail (it doesn't support the required protocol) and just used my ISP, in which case it worked first try. An excellent product.

Nice box with some flaws
Comment:
I replaced a file server with this. It's been working great or as expected for several months now. I'm running it with two 1TB drives in a mirror configuration. It's fairly easy to set up and it got all kinds of features in it's internal system. It's all accessible in a familiar web interface. The important shortcomings I have come across: -Flash the system to the latest version or even a beta version first thing and if it works, don't touch it. -Forget 1Gb speed transfers. It's not able to transfer files faster than any regular server on a 100Mbps connection, not even with better cables. -Several advanced features (like email notification) works for some, never did for me. -The built-in FTP server does not support a passive port range so unless you run some non-restrictive firewall it will not work. Depending on your demands I think this is a very good product. For general home use it should serve well.

Excellent purchase for home user
Comment:
I was really pleased with this item right out of the box. It was easy to set up, and works like a charm. I was a little worried it might be slow, but I was pleasantly surprised when I started moving files off of my old desktop PC. I don't know that I would recommend it for a business, but it certainly fits the bill for a small, home network.

Excellent product at a good price
Comment:
Easy to set up. Setup utility is a little difficult, but once its set up, it works as advertised. Bought it with the intention of setting up a RAID rig, but haven't bought the second 1TB drive yet, so I can't give it 5 stars. Bottom line: Not flashy. Works quietly and well.

Great Value
Comment:
I purchased this enclosure with (2) 1.5TB WD Caviar Green SATA drives. The drives installed easily into the enclosure. I had to update the enclosure firmware to version 1.03 to recognize the 1.5 TB drives using the supplied D-Link software, which was easy enough as I have used other D-Link software before - it can be confusing for the first timer. I set it up as RAID 1 and it formated the drives without problems. The supplied software to map the drive to a letter worked fine in XP but messed up both my Vista computers - it disabled the USB ports. Vista is easy to map without having to use the drive mapping part of the D-Link software. I haven't tried the advanced features yet, but as a basic NAS device this is a great value.

Great Value: Works well with a good price
Comment:
I bought this and 2 x 1 TB hard drives about a month ago to store all my documents in a RAID external drive. That way I can access files on all my computers without needing to leave a PC running. Needed a firmware upgrade to recognize my 1TB drives. Works well. Stays cool. The web interface is a bit klunky, but overall a great value. It was a lot cheaper than its competitors. I was also interested if it was fast enough to play captured High Def TV it programs. I saved a one hour 6 GB digital video file ts. to the NAS. I then played the directly from the NAS. It stuttered in Media Player Classic, but actually played fine in VLC media player.

Great for small office backups
Comment:
We use it as an off-site backup solution. I pull one drive out and take it home and a week later I bring the drive back and swap it out with another drive. It formats the drives with ext2 I believe. Use the windows ext2 driver to gain access to the contents on xp vista or 7.

Product good . . . But what you should know
Comment:
I returned the product and this retailer was very good about it. I did have some problem getting two 1.5TB drives formatted for RAID1 but I didn't try very hard once I discovered that this unit doesn't support FAT32 or NTSF. Which means if something happens to the storage unit I couldn't pull the drives and read them with my computer. Not good data preservation as far as I'm concerned.
