The only problem was that my WINXP Pro didnt read all 500GB at first, it only gave me 120GB, so i had to manually Format the other 340, and made it into a complete second hard drive, which is real good for me.

Have 3 of them running in a Raid 0 Config (3 drives) with a XFX 680i Motherboard and a Q6600 processor with 4GB ram, XFX 8600 Video and my machine screams. While doing a video convert from DVD to DivX CPU usage stayed at 10% or below. Best buy you can get for the price. XP loads in under 10 secs.

Western Digital WD5000AAKS Caviar Blue Hard Drivegot this HD in 2/07 and the hd SMART has failed last night 5/07. Calling WD for replacement. I even had a fan working on this drive to keep it cool. The problem I had is that the hardware of the drive would spin up and then spin down for no real reason. It would not spin up in high demand unlike its raid friend did. SMART software did tell me it is failling . The drive works but I will move all the data before it fails

In the time I used the drive however, it's very fast, makes absolutely no loading or processing noises and it's just great. This drive IS 500 gigs. There seems to be some confusion in this matter. Anyways, I recommend buying this drive if you don't mind maybe making a trip back for an exchange.

Some 500 gb drives do this and I happen to have one that did. Did not know this when I bought it other wise wouldn't have spent the money on it. Bad quality.

Aside from that the drive is fairly quiet and speedy! I don't much care for deceptive marketing ploys which is why I graded it lower than I normally would have, but if 465 GBs is what you're after, you can't go wrong.

Western Digital WD5000AAKS Caviar Blue Hard DriveThis is a great drive that is also backwards compatible with SATA-I motherboards also. Just make sure to switch the jumpers to its respective pins (I believe there are instructions on the drive itself) if you don't have SATA-II on your motherboard. Otherwise, this is a great deal for a huge drive. No issues for me in regards to odd noises.

If you would have read a little bit about it you could have gotten the PCI card to SATA drive. This is a great bargain and a great drive. Just remember Read before you buy, it saves alot of headaches. Well thats my 2 cent worth

Western Digital WD5000AAKS Caviar Blue Hard DriveI have owned one of these for about 6 or 7 years. it has worked flawlessly since i bought it. I have been using western digital drives for years. I have only had a few failures, but they were caused by old age, dirty heads, overused motor, etc. The drives just wore out. But for what I use them for, I'm surprised at how many failures i have had-only two out of 10 in 6 years. Go figure. WESTERN DIGITAL ROCKS!

I keep my drives cool, and rarely have a failure, even when I put a lot of hours on them. Installation is as usual very simple and straightforward. Performance is excellent.
