Nice Drive
Comment:
Quiet, had to reflash it to lose "bluebird" crap. LG had the reflash easily available. Low noise, a tad slow but good overall drive :)

Super product- please advise of cable needs tho
Comment:
The need for cables on someone's part-- would have helped right when I ordered so all would be shipped as one- I had to pay shipping again for those...

BLUEBIRD gotta go
Comment:
To bad that this may reflect on retailers for not forcing LG to do something about the embedded BlueBird software in the drive. It drives me insane that every time you close the drive door, the software pops up. There are endless discussions on this I learned after the fact with no simple way that I have found to disable it. I will never, ever, in my life by another LG product. O.K., the last statement is a knee jerk reaction, but it does express my frustration. I got what i paid for, and I fell victim to the flashy advertising showcasing a discounted drive. I fell for the ploy and now I am paying for it with my sanity every time that stupid software pops up. Other than that the drive works flawlessly.

Bluebirds built-in software sucks!
Comment:
This software is built-in in to the DVD drive is Bluebirds software is very annoying and it runs every time you you open and close the drive. you will need to do firmware update to remove this software. After the software removal, it works OK.

Awesome Drive
Comment:
Reads and burns everything I have thrown at it [alot]. Only annoying thing is bluebirds wants to run every time you close the drive with no media in it. Can fix this problem with some auto play settings tho.

Annoying, and then good.
Comment:
Pros: Price is fantastic. Performance is very good. It's worth buying and won't die out on you. Cons: Someone at LG decided that putting self- & auto-mounting software that you can't uninstall (read it again, it's no typo) into the drive's firmware was a good idea. Fortunately enough people got angry and LG has released a firmware update on their website to remove the malware you get every time you close the drive... Once the Bluebirds software is removed this product is perfect. I just wish they had let it be that way from day one.

Earlier call to Service recommended wrong drive for my computer. so SATA was ordered. Replacement IDE unit works just fine. (Doesn't need cable.

Nice price
Comment:
The product does come with burning software, but in order to burn sound with a video, you must upgrade the Dolby software (for $14.99). Overall, though, it was a good purchase.

Embedded Software Beware!!!
Comment:
Drive runs great!!! However, for those of us NOT running Windows you'll have the drive auto-mount "BLUEBIRDS" on every boot; No fault of the retailer...

LG GH22NS50 22X DVDRW SATA Drive OEM
Cons:'Bluebird' firmware that causes the drive to be completely non-functional under Linux.

Pros:Relatively fast and quiet. Seems to be well built
Comment:
I have a love/hate relationship with this drive. The drive works just fine under Microsoft operating systems and you can disable the 'Bluebirds' as well. However, the firmware renders the drive completely useless under Linux and I mean completely. As I originally got this drive to use in my new Linux box, I am a bit displeased with my $30 'lesson'.

solid, quick, quiet, but one quirk
Comment:
Ok two quirks. 1)It's nearly impossible to get the drive out of the plastic packaging! 2)There's some program called Bluebird embedded in the DVD's firmware that shows up when no disc is in the drive. There's a removal tool for it on the web. Other than that, it does what a DVD writer is supposed to do.

Cons:bluebird? have no idea what people are complaining about

Pros:Decent DVD Burner.Price was rightSATASo far so good

purchased this for a friend's new compy build. it installed WinXP so we know the drive works. burnt a few discs, but that's about all. Similar to the several LG DVD burners i have purchased. I personally cant tell the difference.

DVD and software for 30 bucks
Comment:
I was plesanlty surpised with all the nice extras that come with this drive. Yes there is no cable. But the motherboard hooked it up to came with one. The software incudes Nero and suite of othe LG software and a free norton 360 trial. Took me longer to find my screwdriver than install it

Nice drive and price
Comment:
Count on LG for a great drive. Even comes with plenty of software. Now I can open and view DVD's, I couldn't with my Acer DVD drive. Yes, you need a SATA cable and screws. make sure you have a SATA power connector on your supply too. Thanks.

It's Basic, but it Works Well
Comment:
I've been an LG fan since my first DVD drive. This one carries on the tradition of quality. One note...this is an OEM product, which means whatever reseller was supposed to put it into their computers must have already had their own cables. You will need to provide your own SATA cable...it does not come in the package. What do you want for such a low price?

Do you want a brain with that?
Comment:
The guy that is complaining about cables needs to read a bit... its an OEM replacement part, this is meant to replace a broken drive in a used computer... however you can use this drive to add or even build a computer, just just have to open your wallet and send 35 cents on a sata cable. LG drives are number one in my book, very quiet and reliable
