Very great drive for the value! None can think of. No need to Obtain application. From XP - Win7, just install all most recent DIVX codecs, then install VLC Media Player, which is free. VLC will do it all, Bluray, MP4, MOV, you name it. It plays my retail bluray discs and also bluray-encoded 1080p MKV files, no difficulties. Don't acquire NERO or PowerDVD! Seemed to play standard DVDs properly adequate. Would have been a low expense Blue Ray player resolution...if it could truly play a Blue Ray disc reliably. The player could not play a Blue Ray film with no skips, or freezing of video. Tried it with the integrated PowerDVD 8 player - freezes, skips, and could not use the DTS audio with out experiencing dropouts. Upreved to latest FW - no transform. Tried with PowerDVD ten - DTS audio worked, but nonetheless experienced video skipping and freezing in the course of movie playback. Comparable experience with an additional brand of DVD SW player. It is just not a robust piece of HW. Returned it and replaced with an LG WH10LS30 Blue Ray burner/player from Newegg which works perfectly. It's a BluRay drive at a decent price. Less costly than a stand alone player. Operates just fine. Comes with PowerDVD 8 and a SATA cable. Even with a CRT display you'll still notice an improvement. I forgot to add a SATA to 4pin power connector, oops :PWant a HD monitor now. Couple little hurdles at initially. Power DVD 8 necessary some updates. Common variety stuff and hiccups. No complications now.
