LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray Disc Reader SATA Model iHOS104-08
Cons: Very long, not a burner

Pros: Cheap, quiet, loads quickly
Comment:
Excellent drive, very quiet (important for me, as this is for my HTPC), cheap (would suggest pricematching it).Reads absolutely every BluRay disc I have tried in it, even where my Sony Playstation and standalone BluRay will not play. DVDs and CDs work as expected as well. Smartly seems to only spinup the drive to a speed that's required so it's much quieter. Loads discs very fast, something I didn;t realize could happen coming from all the other optical drives I have purchased over the years.

LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray Disc Reader SATA Model iHOS104-08
Cons: Have heard some people having issues playing certain BR movies but I don't have those and can't verify

Pros: Great feature set, cheapest blu-ray player
Comment:
So far its played everything I put in it with speed and quietness I want. Don't have too many BR movies but the ones I do have, it played quite fine. Comes with powerDVD8 which is old now (PowerDVD 10 is out) but its free and does the job

Player is geat software is only 2 channel audio
Comment:
The drive itself is good but the bundled software (Power DVD 8) is only 2 channel audio output. Upgrade v9 - $39 or v10 - $59. If you use headphones while watching movies this is for you.If you have 5.1 or 7.1 you need to figure in the software cost (upgrade or other). I upgraded the bundled software and was charged for 3 upgrades (on a single seat? nice), 2 times plus a $6.50 fee (yeah almost $400). I'm just annoyed that I was practically forced to upgrade in the first place. This needs to be stated clearly on the box as it is semi-idiotic to have 2 channel software bundled with a machine that can play at 1080.

Cons: None found so far.

Pros: $80 for blu-ray....can't beat that.
Comment:
Been wanting blu-ray for a while and this unit fit the bill nicely. Works as expected. Haven't had any problems yet. Just make sure your computer can handle the high def format.

Great Buy
Comment:
This drive operates flawlessly. The software that is packaged with it is absolutely useless. I immediately chose to spend $100 on the software ''upgrade.''

This drive is great, does what it's supposed to do
Comment:
The drive itself is great and does everything you would want it to do, as long as you have the system requirements to watch hd movies. I popped it in and works great. I wish the software that came with it was better unfortunately it only gives you 2 channel audio, for an additional $60 you can purchase an upgrade to acquire extra audio channels and features. If you don't need the extra audio channels then it is great the way it is. This is a great drive and I'm not trying to steer anyone away from it. Buy it. You can always get another software product to play your movies.

Good value
Comment:
No problem getting this installed. Trying to get the BD player software to work was a bit frustrating. Works on Win 7 64 bit but will eventually pay the $60 or so to upgrade to the new PowerDVD 10 Ultra. Was able to get sound through HDMI, which is good enough for me.

It works with Windows 7 (64bit)
Comment:
The device works as advertized to play blueray. You will need to download updated drivers and software to use 64 bit Windows 7. Software must be configured for your audio hardware.

Great deal
Comment:
The drive is everything it is purported to be. I use it with my 1080P TV and it gives a crystal clear picture. The dvd or blue ray software that comes with it is a come on for up-grade. I went with the other company for software and love it.

Is a good buy but don't install the Cyberlink software that comes with it, it contains a backdoor trojan virus. Couldn't believe it.

What's the big deal?
Comment:
Bought a 1080p monitor, bought this Lite-On Blu Ray ROM drive, bought a Blu-Ray version of District 9 - I'll be darned if I see anything special. Looks like regular old DVD to me? So why did I pay all this money?

Good Drive, but spring for the better software
Comment:
This drive if just fine for Blu Ray movies. The software that come with it will do, but I would suggest going to Cyberlink 9 ultra.

Simple and great!
Comment:
Great product. If you just want to play a blu ray, this is the best option. Other blu ray drives have more speed and have writing capabilities. But, if you are not going to copy blu rays, this product is all you need. As long as you have blu ray movies (rent one if you don't), HD video card on your PC, a HD monitor screen or HDTV, and HDMI cables (I don't know why you would buy a blu ray drive if you do not have these, as some of the other reviewers idicated) then this driver is excellent.

Drive is Good but WMC has issues with Blu-Ray!!!!
Comment:
Bought this drive for my Windows Media Center PC to play blu-Ray movies and ran into some snags. The drive works fine but Windows does not play well with B-R discs! You have to install the PowerDVD software that comes with this drive to view movies. It only does 2 channel sound and does not work with Windows Media Center. You have to pay for the Powerdvd upgrade ($60) to get it to all run together. Then if you do not have a video card with HDMI out and built in audio you may run into audio problems. I also bought one of those too for $50... when you do all that it works great :) but it really would have been a lot easier just to buy a Blu-Ray player. Windows 7 Media Center is pretty though! LOL

Partial review
Comment:
The drive seems to be fine though I haven't any blu ray disks available to test that feature yet. It is good looking in my case and smooth and quiet when opening, closing and playing DVD movies. No problems with installation but if you have a cramped case, be advised, pay attention to the dimensions, this unit is a good inch longer than the DVD burner it is installed next to. I had to swap bays because of space issues in my old pizza box case. Overall very satisfied so far.

Works Great
Comment:
It works great, but sometimes I have to open my second DVD read in order for this to start reading, not sure why. Also I was very disappointed to find that I needed to download other software that cost me another 130 dollars in order to play the Blu-Ray DVDs. Ended up decided on TotalMedia Theatre 3 and have been very satisfied with the end result.

Good Basic Blu Ray Reader
Comment:
I have had this product for a couple of weeks now. Plays my Blu Ray movies fine, and standard DVDs as well. Worth the extra cost over OEM for the Software. A solid product that is a good fit if all you really want to do is play movies.
