functions fine so far, no problema spare silver plate, screws, SATA cable included in a retail box BD study speed is slow (well, the technologies is nonetheless relatively new, has a extended way to go, so I guess this is not actually a con)no custom firmware yet (again, it is still early)still trying to figure out how to leave aero enabled when playing the film, that aero choice in powerdvd doesn't function somehow my hardware is Q6600, 4GB ram, nVidia 8600GT with 512ram, 19" LCD (not WS) working with win 7 with powerdvd 10, no challenge playing BD movie, attempted 񓟼"couple of points:- my somewhat old LCD possibly doesn't assistance HDCP, so I have to use anyDVD HD (otherwise powerdvd will not play + a warning message of you have to use VGA cable, I use DVI)- takes like 50 mins to make an image of a 40GB BD film (on my 4x reading speed drive)- the BD bookmark in powerdvd does NOT operate like DVD, it is a feature functions within the disc, which is weird, took me a whilst to figure out.- can not hide your region code, otherwise BD reside won't operate- win7 does NOT have the native capability to play BD movie, (nor VLC), needs 3rd party software, otherwise MS will need to have to pay extra license fee to Sony, since Sony created Blu Ray, a proprietary tech (unfortunately, in a sense), similar principle as winxp back then can\'t play DVD by itself. It is not a tech difficulty, it is a licensing difficulty.

For the cost, this is a great unit. Installed very easily beneath Windows 7 property premium 64 bit. Works beautifully! I can't think the shipping...ordered it on Thursday, received it on Friday. When I purchased this, it was free shipping PLUS a บ rebate! Way to go Newegg! Bundled software package (powerDVD 8) is not great but it does the job. The software package is the only purpose I gave this a rating of 4. General, this was a good deal and a super transaction!

It utilized to play BD flawlessly, while PowerDVD 10 took a though to load the movies in the Vista MC interface. It just learned a new trick where everytime you press the eject button, it BSODs Vista Home Premium x64. You can put the new movie in whilst it's rebooting and then watch it as soon as you're carried out restaring, just get prepared to put up with anoher BSOD (and you wife yelling since all the extenders are offline) when you want to adjust the movie once more. Searched the lite-on web site for a firmware update to no avail. There are no downloads for this drive. I don't know if the BSODs are caused by the same SATA controller the drive is plugged into driving my RAID- OS drives.

None. Does not perform in Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Could not figure out why, so I got this incredibly good explanation from the fine folks at Lite-On: Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for contacting Liteon IT Assistance. Sorry to tell you that your drive doesn’t support Windows 7 operating system, we recommend you to put the drive on one more Computer which runs Windows2000/XP/Vista for further diagnosis, due to we have done complete testing for this drive. Greatest regards, yep, very best regards for a chump that looked closely at the newegg item specs, and never located a disclaimer that Win7 support was lacking. Needless to say, I will never, ever, ever invest in a different product with the Lite-On brand on it. Gigabyte GA-55A-UD4P, 8GB GSkill Ripjaws, i5-750, Radeon HD5770, WD 1.0TB & WD 750gb

It's black. It's SATA. The verison of Energy DVD that comes with the drive is OK, but it bugs you everytime you open it, to upgrade to the newest version, or that it only supports 2ch sound. Furthermore, I've had the drive because March, but it's just developed a problem of not reading BR discs. I barely use the drive. Appears to be unreliable- buyer beware. I'll see how nicely Lite-On stands behind their warranty I reckon.

Slick searching-Fast enough and auto detects through win 7 and server 2008-Does what its advertised-plays all new BD that I have-Consists of software program and darn inexpensive! -software program is only two channel and will require upgrade if you want correct HD sound and all that.-software program might require an added step or two to get newer BD to play, not a drive or firmware concern. Avatar is a rime example, there is a effortless fix. Use google.-BD in a pc is not a PS3 so you may well in fact have to do a small investigation from time to time with newer disk.Pardon misspellings. Appear guys my drive was a Sep 2010 create date and the firware could not be less difficult to upgrade. Go to lite-on's site and uncover the auto upgrade program, follow the directions and your prepared for step two. Make certain that you GFX card is up to the job and HDCP complient, if it has a physical HDMI port than it additional than likly is. Next ensure that you get the newest drivers for your card.Load the software program. Go into the settings and opt for upgrade. This will pick the suitable upgrade file. Run the download. Now sit back and watch some movies.Im running it on Win Server 2008 32bit version with absolutly no problems. My machine is a HTPC with a E6850 at three.7ghz, 2gb of ram, a Nvidia 210. This setup runs wonderful, even so Im going to upgrade the GFX card for a newer ATI.I see alot of complaints and I almost did not pick up this drive. If you wanna watch movies, than you can not beat the cost. PowerDVD is ok, but there are genuinely only three options for playback software. I may possibly upgrade to ve

Good drive and fantastic price! Even without having software I couldn't find a BD-ROM drive for a better price. If you have no software to play Blu-Ray media, then the software program provided will provide MINIMUM features. Other than that, I've got no complaints about the drive itself. I'm not marking any eggs off although, simply because the cost is unbeatable even with no software. I expected worse software given other evaluations I read. It doesn't support as many capabilities when playing Blu-Ray movies as it does playing DVD. For example, you can not use the mouse to pick Blu-Ray on-screen menu selections.

Sleek interface, effortless and light weight to me, for a blue ray drive. Great overall good quality. Its greatest with windows seven, i have utlimate so it goes excellent with the windows media center ( had to get particular software add on). works wonderful, i have fed it many blue rays and not 1 delay. and since its on your pc all the blue ray extras are right at your finger tips, way more rapidly i believe. None that i can recolect. Beats buying a full size bd player, for now.....lol

The drive just plain works, as did the included software program (under Windows 7, and soon after applying updates). I was worried that, with such a low cost, I would be obtaining a sub-par item. As it turns out, soon after watching a Blu-Ray movie nearly each and every night for the past two weeks, my concerns were unjustified. None, genuinely. I suppose I may well ultimately want to upgrade the software program package. The drive is also about an inch or so longer than my regular DVD drives, so I had to do some rearranging of drives and cabling inside my mid-tower case. Immediately after installation and rebooting, it took Windows 7 about one minute to recognize that the drive had been installed, and perhaps a different two minutes to recognize it as a BD drive (it initially recognized it as just a CD-R drive). I wouldn't advise it as a primary optical drive in a typical workhorse/gaming PC mainly because it doesn't have any burning capabilities and it doesn't have the fastest read occasions, even though for a devoted HTPC it would be just fine, and I intend to purchase this unit once again for that purpose.

Cheap, solid develop, easy to install and works properly.I bought this item for my house built HDPC with win 7 ultimate. It was the least expensive one but have been worked extremely well for Blu-ray and DVD play back. Software program PowerDVD can play blu-ray and DVD with out dilemma. The attached PowerDVD is a downgraded version. You have to invest added funds to upgrade to a retail version.

plays my DVDs and Blu-Ray disks so now I can watch my movies. cost is actually good. did notice a small stutter in the playback of a few of my BD titles but absolutely nothing that is really poor. make confident you have a energy connector that is compatible with SATA energy connector. I did not but I lucked out and had an adapter in my parts bin. the unit will not come with an adapter.

Drive works. Particularly dissapointed that the software program supplied only supports two channel sound. I paid for this retail version and now have to pay for a software program upgrade for multichannel sound that costs far more than the drive. If this was mde clear in the advertising I would have purchased an additional model. I purchased this model thinking I was finding a superior deal with the software.

Worked nicely while it worked. Runs audio CD digital extraction/"ripping" quicker than any other drive I've evern owned. Soon after a year, likes to fail intermittently. Drive stops responding to commands from system, causes Windows and any other application acccessing the drive to hang indefinitely.

It plays blu-rays The "free software program" is a very low end product called Power-DVD by Cyberlink. The problem is the no cost version doesn't support surround sound. Want your media pc to play BD and use your sound program? Only 49.99 Upgrade for Ultra version of the software program. Ive done my research and it doesn't support any 5.1 or 7.1 output with the simple version. So ad 50 bucks to the drive cost if you want surround sound. Movies look truly sharp, but the sound is like you tube. 2 channel or payed upgrade.

An update on my review for the drive I got that did not work, but did have smoke pouring out the back when the eject button was utilised... my RMA unit is on the way and I really should get it on fiveǛቦ. RMA encounter was poor. It took far too lengthy. One hiccup was unanswered emails as to why I by no means got my RMA information immediately after submitting it for 9 weeks. Sent an email bomb to every single email address in PLDS I could come across immediately after my 4th attempt to get a reply, got 1 in hours stating my RMA approval was sent weeks ago. Appears even though they can respond to GMAIL accounts when they choose to respond to an e-mail, their e-mail server that sends the RMA directions either does not send to GMAIL accounts (they did get one via to the e-mail account at work) or GMAIL deletes it with no trail or notice (not in spam box). They tried twice to send to GMAIL and nothing came through, no response from them when I informed them that it did not function with GMAIL so it still may well not be working. Any future Lite-on invest in will include an extended warranty. I had 5 days just before my RMA authorization expired when it was finally sent to my work email account, ฤ to ship at the UPS shop.In the mean time I bought a Samsung BD drive, drive is awesome; no issues at all. The replacement Lite-on will go in to an external case as I don't want a probable fire hazard in a machine that will be on 24ǝ.I would still get a Lite-on in the future, just with the RMA experience it would be well worth to pay additional for the extended warranty just not to deal with the PLDS RMA procedure.

-Blu-Ray-Comes w/ Energy DVD software program, which is decent/works fine(nothing fancy)-Pretty Inexpensive if you get it on sale and/or with a rebate-Comes with SATA cable of decent high quality I've already had trouble with it's capacity to read some DVD's, but I haven't checked for a firmware update yet. No issues with Blu rays as of however. It's just annoying that some thing that is brand new out of the box has trouble reading manufacturer DVD's. This really should not be the case. Putting in a DVD and obtaining that never ever ending click click click as it searches for the first title is not quite impressive. Often it in no way figures it out. Put a "problem" DVD into my other DVD drive(Sony), and it picks it up following a couple of more scans than standard. Put it in a DVD player, and it comes proper on no issue. These are manufacturer discs, not burns. It picks up burns in a heartbeat, but I would anticipate that. Great software and media = superior burns = high compatibility. It's worth the ุ I paid(บ rebate). I can use my other drive for DVD's it can't deal with. This sucker is lengthy, so watch out if you have a modest case. It barely fit in my tower which is just under 16" deep. Pretty much bumps proper into my Corsair 750W power supply, not leaving a lot of room for all the cables from the PS, or the cables connected to the drive. I had to get a little creative with my cable routing, but it worked out fine. It's about two inches longer than my Sony DVD DL burn drive.

Low-cost, it works! Software program is poor. The version that came with hardware won't be able to output Dolby surround even playing normal DVD, and it asks to upgrade for แ!!! I think it need to come with great software program. I bought it for my slim case HP S5710f, and it does not fit perfectly. So if you buying it for slim cases, like mine, it won't go in all the way. Not a major deal though.
