I utilized this drive to install a multitude of programs on my new Dell 11z model 1121 (Sprint) laptop. The OS is W7HP so anybody questioning if it functions with the most current, it does. If you continuosly get the message that your drive is missing an update when you know it's not - attempt loading SlySoft AnyDVDHD to turn the encryption off. Mine had that problem and for the life of me I couldn't figure what was up. Dell hadn't supplied a system to actually let Cyberlink to play BD-DVDs! Not a unfavorable however - hope it stays that way! It's quiet and vibration cost-free, and the pilot light is light green. Occasionally those drives with the blue LED will light the entire space!

Pros? Cheap The worst component about this product was that as soon as I got it, it didn't work. Right after checking the blu-ray drive and every thing else connected I sent out for a new 1. After the new one arrived I was prompted with the similar error. It wasn't till a month later that the blu-ray drive decided to work once more. Maybe there was an update, but no hardware adjustments were created. After this encounter I will new buy a LITE-ON item once more.

Inexpensive. Works for almost everything except blu-rays at the moment. Did not come with blu-ray player software. Somewhat expected this since it was OEM, but some reviewers reported that it came with software program. Hardware is superior, software program was defective, NewEgg consumer service was each incompetent and unhelpful. NewEgg consumer service I bought this drive for a new build and the Blu Ray software came with an invalid CD important. I had to send NewEgg countless emails explaining to them that all I necessary was a new CD crucial emailed to me, and they kept on giving me the run around. I absolutely would not advocate shopping for this drive mainly because it could come with a negative CD key, in which case you will not be helped by NewEgg at all (even though it is there fault).

I purchased the drive in October 0f 2010. It operated until January 2011. The drive was inexpensive. The drive was compatible with my program. The drive claimed to carry a warranty. The drive stopped operating. Much more, the drive stopped operating earlier than any of the other drives I've ever bought. Fact: even my Kenwood 72x CD-ROM endured longer than this Lite-On component. It seems as though the item is as mediocre in terms of its construct high quality as it is with its efficiency. I gave it one egg mainly because it was affordable and operated until it broke. I subtracted four eggs, although, since although I can fully grasp that usually goods break -- even my OCZ SSD with no moving parts broke a few moths into my use of it -- there is no excuse for poor assistance. By poor assistance I mean it's been days because I submitted a request and I have yet to hear from the business -- not a word. So while I could excuse a broken item -- in particular, perhaps, a cheap one -- I cannot excuse unresponsive, uncommunicative, and totally unhelpful support. Don't waste your time here: pony up the five bucks and buy the far better drive. You'll be glad you didn't shed the time to inferior (nonexistent) assistance.

Functions I didn't get any software, just bare drive. but from the sound of it i didn't want the computer software they had been giving out. went on piratebay and found some computer software that worked. Good drive if you can get it work with your OS and software. As other people have mentioned, it comes with Energy DVD8 BD OEM version. It's a actual piece of junk. Plays anything you throw at it, namely blu-rays and dvd's and cd's, original or copies. I have not had any complications at all with playback. When I rip dvd's, it will only rip at 2x speed. I attempted getting the firmware upgrade from Lite-on web page, but I keep acquiring unauthorized error messages, so excellent luck with that.
