To the review below this one.
Comment:
Maybe you should read things before you buy them. It dosen't say any where in the description that it writes cd's. Then you review it and give it a 2? Really, whats wrong with you.

LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray Reader SATA Model iHOS104-06
Cons:Blue ray does'nt seem to be well supported yet.

Pros:Plays blue ray movies.Very affordable Price.Looks good in rig. Will also play most anything else you want to.I wanted only strait play device.Windows found drivers right away.Plug & play
Comment:
I just wanted a simple blue ray player at an affordable price. This blue ray player does just what I wanted and since I had extra slot to fill in my new computer, It rounded out the new build. Like the sata connections, no more ribbons.I had to install software from disc to play a blue ray movie. over all I'm very happy with product . Would probly buy one with more memory and faster read speed next time but for the price It's a great deal.

Don't buy if you think it'll write CDs and DVDs.
Comment:
I would have done far, far better and got far more utility out of a $35 drive than this one. I though this drive was the same as the others, with a few extra bucks just to read bluray. No. It writes nothing. It's a reader only... which I thought didn't exist anymore.

Best value for an enviable media center.
Comment:
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this player. For the price of a DVD player you get Bluray. Just make sure that your operating system supports the device as a bluray (vs DVD) and that you have software to play the disc (might I recommend Arcsoft Totalmedia center 3 Platinum?). EVERY disc is played perfectly. - Remember, as an OEM you get the drive. Don't forget the SATA cable or that your computer must have some sort of graphics card to support HD. There are plenty of them out there. - I have this a my HAF 932 with 16 gb RAM, an EVGA 260, and controlled with my antec multi station premier. I use it for TV, Movies, Music, and internet all from one remote. Heck, all it needs is a USB pocket private massager and I'll be set (JUST KIDDING)

Good drive; some issues with Linux
Comment:
Now that it's working, it's chugging along fine. Nice and quiet; quick to load disks. No problems with newer blu-ray disks or any DVDs. Using Mdv 2010.0, I had to attach the drive via USB, as it woulnd't recognize it as SATA. (The manufacturer's support solution of

LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray Reader SATA Model iHOS104-06
Cons:None (haven't had any other BluRay readers to compare to)

Pros:Reads like it should
Comment:
The bluray reader when it is reading bluray discs. I have a certain distaste because of the codecs used not being free, however I am sure that will change in the future and I will no longer have to use PowerDVD to play these.

Good product
Comment:
I was waiting to get a Blu-ray player until the blu-rays were about the same price as DVDs. I figured now was as good a time as any. You can't beat the price for what you're getting. The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is if there is a way to integrate Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 with windows media center. Can't complain though, it's OEM and comes with Cyberlink software.

Terrific drive and software
Comment:
First I was pleasantly surprised that the drive included software. Now I see that at the bottom of the page, but initially I only noted it was an OEM item and normally that includes nothing but the drive. So that was a nice bonus. The software initially said Windows 7 64-bit wasn't compatible, but it downloaded a patch. At 90MB, this was basically the whole installation over again, but then all was fine. Software is 32-bit either way. It installs in Program Files x86. So not sure what the incompatibility is exactly in the shipping version. Only a minor stumbling block. This is only the 2-channel audio version of playback software, but I don't have digital audio out on my display anyway. So for now that's not important either, and they do offer a discounted upgrade when the time comes. I've played a couple discs so far and they looked stunning. This has been a fantastic addition to my system, and I'm glad I made this purchase.

LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray Reader SATA Model iHOS104-06
Cons:DVD reading performance not so hot

Pros:Cheap, silent with Bluray discs, bundled software
Comment:
It does what it's supposed to do at a good price, i.e. read Blu-ray movies. Spinning at 4X, it's not so fast, but it's quiet, which is good while watching a movie. Comes with a fully functional version of PowerDVD which is all you need really.

LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray Reader SATA Model iHOS104-06
Cons:- Software installation can be temperamental.

Pros:- Affordable.- Works as advertised.
Comment:
As I already have 2 burners that I bought specifically for their performance and quality, I wasn't looking to get a third, and burning blu-rays isn't something I need at present, so this read-only drive is the perfect solution for me.Installation into my tower went as one would typically expect, however the included software to play blu-ray movies took me several hours to get working. Upon installation it prompts for an update  which for all intents and purposes seems like a replacement to the program altogether. I guess this is where the problem occurred as it refused to play, then two more uninstalls and reinstalls I finally got the thing working. The bundled software is limited to 2-channel audio but if you're like me and watch on your pc with headphones, then it won't be a problem.

noisy
Comment:
Ive had this for a month or so and it has starting making noise for no reason, I thought it was a fan at first but I put my ear up to it and it sure was the cd drive, when I opened it stopped the noise. I would just come into my room to use my pc and its making noise, not a big deal because I can stop it but its odd.

LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray Reader SATA Model iHOS104-06
Cons:no SATA cablePowerDVD software function

Pros:Brand nameCame with OEM copy of PowerDVDSATAAt the time I ordered, was most inexpensive way to add BD to a system
Comment:
I was going to add "does not burn Blu-ray discs" to the weakness, but I do not feal it is one. I ordered this to PLAY BD's, and is clearly marked as a player. So far the software has worked ok, if not a little slow to respond. Many discs lock out the kb function, and that can be annoying. Must use mouse for things that should work with kb shortcuts (like full screen mode)The software is the weakest link on this purchase, but I know of no other sollutions and it does work, when it isn't being flaky. (had it lock the system up twice so far, forcing a hard-boot)EDIT: After more use I have to say that the weakest part of this purchase was the PowerDVD software. It goes beyond being flaky, it is just aweful.Just tried to watch District 9 BD, and the software reported "unsupported format" and refused to play.At this point, I would recomend a REAL BD player, and hold off puting one in a PC until the software required to play them gets a major overhaul.PowerDVD that came with this drive sucks, and I am unwilling to pay another 50-100 $ to buy more software. Were I to know this before purchase, I would have aquired a real, stand-alone BD player.GL This review was modfied by poster @ 12-22-09 02:32 PM
