Great consept, but it was DOA. I got this to replace the IDE controller that I was using so that I could use my 1Tb SATA drive. Effectively, as currently stated it was DOA. I tried various different things to get it to function, but absolutely nothing. It's almost certainly just one particular of these defective parts. I will be returning it to the manufacturer considering that I waited too lengthy to return it to newegg. Newegg was rapid with the shipping as usual.

Right after reading the reviews right here and becoming familiar with the mini-CD contents, I figured out speedily how to set up the driver for this card. It took 10 minutes to install my Hitachi 1 TB SATA drive to the card and then start off making use of the drive. Functions like a charm. The installer should be skilled. The 1st card had an incomplete connector that the factory missed. So I returned it. NewEgg shipped it back inside a few days of receiving it. That's why I do small business with NewEgg.

It plugged appropriate in and went to perform.. I'm working with Linux Mint eight. I installed XP ran the setup disk and it all performs like it's supposed to. none If you set up xp to a drive plugged into this card, be ready with a floppy to set up the raid drivers..

If you have some expertise operating with cards like these, it is a breeze to set up and configure. It took me a total of ten minutes to tear down the rig, install, rebuild, reboot and there it is, all completed. Full catalog of drivers. These folks are heavy IT, not at all user friendly, but I couldn't care much less. If you are new to cards like these, there is not a spot of support in the documentation. The cause? There is no documentation. Get assistance at the beginning. For me, and considering my skills and abilities, not yours, it is a drop dead 5. It would not be this high if I didn't have 30 years encounter with this stuff.

Works, and does so beneath most* OS. I bought a vid card upgrade for my brother that wouldn't fit more than his e-machines SATA ports, so I popped his DVD-ROM more than to this and every little thing operates fine. None. It worked out-of-box. I did not try a RAID, nor did I run the principal HD off this, but for adding SATA ports it's wonderful.

the cost. It truly does operate. not very user friendly. slower card, and of course the driver cd I spent most of a weekend trying to get this card running. It was extremely fussy with drives, somtimes it boot up then i added a one more drive and it would just hang. by far the most tough pci card i've ever dealt with. at some point identified a winning installation sequence and i'm operating 4 further drives total, with two in a raid mirror. Takes a bit longer for windows to boot, but incredibly convienent. I Just wish it was more user friendly.

Plugged it in and it works. Very easily installed on windows XP and worked with a new 1TB drive very first try. Only two Sata ports and seriously don't require an IDE but this was a good price tag so. Eh... None

I installed this card in a storage pc I built out of an old eMachines Pc. Windows XP pro recognized the card and I didn't have to use the equipped driver disc. It's playing quite properly with my 1 tb Samsung drive and I haven't had a single problem out of it. Works fantastic in my homemade DVR. It is really thin and does not encroach upon my other pci cards. None actually, the external port is a standard SATA port not eSATA. You could call this a pro if you dont have an eSATA connector but have numerous common sata connectors. If you are attempting to retrofit an older IDE motherboard to accept SATA HDD's this is what you will need. DOnt waste your time and dollars on those inexpensive IDE to SATA adapters. None of them seem to work and you only get assistance for 1 drive if any.

Detected and runs a secondary sata HDD on older system no problem.Installed XP driver with included CD flawless.three sata ports Although you can run secondary drives off of it, you CAN'T boot from it! The card doesn't contain a bios that you can boot from. Thus, OS will NOT run off hdd's connected to card. Also, I can't enable write caching/cache (of my sata hdd) on this card. When I try my hdd on a different laptop or computer, cache can be enabled. Don't know what to say. A Mixed bag.I guess I had also high expectations.

Comment:
IDE and SATA on the similar card. That's great. Inexpensive. Appears to largely work. By way of chip (not ALI), unclear driver(s) and installation process. Ultimately got IDE working beneath W2K. Could not get an external drive (WD MyBook Household Edition) working with eSATA. Might work fine with WXP as an alternative of W2K and on your mobo. All connectors on the card are "L" type so if you have an external eSATA drive with an "I" connector, make confident you get the proper cable. Card comes with an internal "L" to "L" cable. Linux (PCLinuxOS 2007) sees the card as a By way of VT-6421 but I couldn't get IDE or eSATA drives to mount. I may well need to install unique Linux drivers to get it to operate correctly. I'll attempt an Ubuntu LiveCD later. I'm using it with a Biostar By way of KT333 mobo. This is a Through VT-6421 (marked on the "instructions" and on the chip itself). The install disk is just a massive collection of drivers and installers for tons of unique goods and you have to guess which to install and how (there are a number of RAID and SATA folders). Masscool web site has no drivers. Via internet site(s) are equally as confusing. There are no instructions with the card -- You are on your own and if every thing operates you're fine. If it doesn't, you require to investigation on your own. I'm going to acquire an internal SATA drive and see if that operates, but I'm pleased sufficient (given the price tag) now that I know that PATA functions (at least beneath Windows) and I have a shot at obtaining it to operate beneath Linux.

Properly, it works in Linux! I am making use of this in a Ubuntu file server running on an older Celeron and the mobo has no SATA. I bought the Koutech IO-PSA202 prior to but it was a no-show below Linux or BSD. This one particular functions excellent, I have 2 SATA drives connected ƒꘄ GB) and I have a DVDRom drive on the PATA. Since this is just a file server, I don't have high demand relating to speed, so I by no means tested it. Incorrect item picture, the SATA connectors are various (one on the lengthy side, one on the brief side) and it doesn't even show the external SATA (eSATA).I can not get it to boot off the optical drive when connected to the PATA on this card, but when it is up, it operates fine.I also had a couple of problems in the starting, and I am not certain what occurred, but it appears when you connect only one SATA drive it has to be connected to the....properly, sorry, I forgot, but if you use only one particular and it doesn't operate, hook it up to the other connector. The 2 SATA drives are running in an LVM together with 1 750GB PATA connected to the mobo. I was a tiny scared at very first, given that I was not confident when the drives on this card "kick in" particularly since I couldn't boot of the PATA optical, but so far Ɠ months now) every little thing appears stable. This is a nice card to assist out an old mobo with restricted connectivity. You undoubtedly can't beat the cost and you will be difficult pressed to find a less costly SATA card that functions beneath Linux.

Utilised to turn a old Pentium 4 into a fileserver. Necessary SATA ports to help the 2TB HDDs I was putting in. I just plugged the card in then plugged 2 2TB HDDs in and it works just fine. Plug and play on Ubuntu 10.04 server with no troubles at all. Slowish performance but it is a PCI card running on a old computer so wasn't expecting anything amazing. I will note that I am using 100 Mb cable + port so the max that I can get is only 12 MBs so I can't say something about the overall performance of the card. Running an internal benchmark plan it was listing ~ 60 MBs which isn't undesirable but the HDDs had been receiving properly over 100 MBs when plugged into a modern machine.

This card works wonderful with Windows XP or Linux. I would give it 5 stars for older Windows systems. This card is based on Through VT6421 chip. There are drivers for Vista, each built into Vista and newer ones obtainable on the By way of web page. However, this chip has quite a few complications with BSOD randomly occurring when employing drives plugged into it. This is an older chip, which really should be retired. It only works well for older Windows systems.Don't attempt to use it with Vista or Windows 7.

It works when you get the drivers to installed. It must come with drivers on a diskette so when you do a fresh install of the OS, the card would be recognized for the CD drives or the HD, which ever you have hooked up to it. The IDE input on the Dell mb fried and so the CD drives would not work. Glad the HD was nonetheless a IDE interface so I could load the drivers. And by the way Dell wanted 赨 for a new mb, lol at them. The pc is five years old and runs great now. Hopeful my close friends will get a few a lot more years out of it before they have to devote dollars on a new rig.

Snapped into PCI slot and XP immediately recognized and installed unit. I Downloaded drivers from install disk for XP method and raid drivers were installed. I went to My computer and the two sata hardrives were present and in a position to be formatted below disk management. I have not tried to set up a raid profile and am not positive I will. I connected an old zip drive to the ide interface on card and it also was recognized by XP with programs accessible from zip disk. No istallation directions. Driver disk has no directions, but lists, drivers in folders. You need to have to know which driver folder to install from when XP asks for installation location. I have two old ide difficult drives one old zip drive, and two old ide DVD-CD-ROM drives with no sata support on my old Dell motherboard. I necessary access to 5 ide and 1 floppy connections. I plan on moving to a new motherboard and case, but nonetheless wanted to use these old devices because they nonetheless work ok. The new motherboard will have sata support of course but will only have one connection for ide devices. I have two windows 7 systems which are wonderful, but, I nonetheless play and use XP programs that are not compatible under Windows 7.

Saves getting a new MB if you want to add a newer SATA HD.Consists of a decent length SATA cable.Lots of ports for the $ As others mentioned, there are no clear instructions(or, seriously, any directions). Installation isn't really that bad. You require to install the Via RAID software program(in the VT6421 folder, as other user mentioned) even if you aren't utilizing the drive as portion of a RAID array so that the controller works. Just format your HDD making use of Windows Disk Manager and you ought to be prepared to go.For the cost, what else can you anticipate?

Very brief and thin - I installed subsequent to a Hauppauge Television tuner that runs a small hot, and this card is so short that it basically doesn't block the tuner at all. Worked out of the box on Vista, with no require to install drivers (Vista reports that it has a Via chipset). As other people have noted, the rear SATA port is a typical SATA port, not definitely an eSATA port. I purchased this to add 1TB to a Media Center built on oldish hardware. Works perfectly for this purpose.

Wasted time when you receive something that doesn't work, you try to rule out everything on your end but in the end it was the card. I could see a bubbled area near one part of the ide pins that was probably the reason it couldn't be recognized by my computer. Tiger took care of it and the 2nd one works just fine.
