Horrible service
Comment:
I have been trying to install this card on a Linux box. Although Linux does see the card and does see the drives attached to it, but for some reason the card consumes enormous amount of system resources. It loads the CPU up to 70% servicing kernel calls and 10% spent on servicing system interrupts. But it is OK, sometimes things like that happen; one piece of equipment does not go along with another. I purchased another card from the TG and it worked fine. What really has annoyed me is that now it is a pain in the neck to return the first one. The store does not accept the merchandise, the return department does not accept drop-offs, I MUST send it with a courier!!! It this case the delivery should cost me more than the merchandise itself. Considering that I live 7 minutes away from the TG return department in Markham! HORRIBLE service! Never ever I will order from them again!

Works well with issues
Comment:
The card works great, but there is such poor documentation that it took hours to find the right driver to install. I finally had to find the info online. Once the drivers were loaded, I was very happy with the card.

used for Windows Home Server
Comment:
I agree with the other reviews -- I am not using this for bootable drives, just to add additional storage for a Windows Home Server. I am not using the RAID features as WHS does not work with RAID. The card is priced right, lets you add 2 drives, use the windows drivers.

Excellent for adding extra storage
Comment:
I bought this card knowing it would only work as an add-in,as it does not have a RAID bios to boot from.I gave it an overall rating of about 4, because it still comes with an outdated driver disk.It blue-screened my XP box 4 times, Called the manufaturer& their tech support gave me a direct download link for the latest drivers. It works fine now...It is a good buy, as long as you get the new drivers. I would definately get another one, if i need it.

It works, if you know what you are doing...

I've had no problems. My only precaution is it isn't going to come with any directions so get a friend to help if you've never put something like this in your computer before.

Let Windows chose the driver
Comment:
This card came with a CD which does not contain any drivers for the card. I let windows XP chose the driver and it works fine. The eSATA and one of the internal SATA ports are really the same port. Only one can be used.

Difficult Install
Comment:
My Dell Dimension 8200 did not want to recognize that this hardware was installed. Not till I removed it and tryed to install the software. Then re-installed it did the computer recognize that it was in there. This was a frustrating couple day experience. But seems to be working fine. It is a good value But when it takes hours to install ?!

Not so easy to install but works fine
Comment:
Miserable documentation, driver CD cannot be read, manufacturer's website help is useless. Thanks to the other reviews I was able to install it properly. Downloaded the driver package version V5.80G from VIA website, selecting Op. System, Raid Controllers with 6420 in it's name. Unzipped it in a temp folder. I don't need RAID software, so when XP asked for the driver, I selected the folder that contains only the proper driver for XP and all was set! Only driver installed, no RAID software as I needed. I did not test the performance yet, but my computer is old and I don't care too much about speed. Too bad they prevent posting the full driver's name and web links here in the reviews.

Excellant for Adding Serial Drives
Comment:
This card combined with a Westerndigital Cavier Blue 500 GB harddrive, was easy to install. It is any easy way to add serial harddrive to older Pata systems.

This does what I need it to do
Comment:
I didn't need RAID, I needed something to add IDE for some old drives so I could use them as spare storage. Non-bootable is a plus for me but keep that in mind because I can't boot Windows from a drive on this card. Ubuntu 9.10 recognized this immediately with no additional driver and I can use both drives attached in Ubuntu and the NTFS drive in Windows under XP64. The grub loader recognizes 8.04 on one of the old drives, but I haven't tried booting it since I'd rather use 9.10. I may use the external SATA in the future, but I'm not concerned with it right now.

The only reason I downgraded it was because the documentation for choosing the drivers was so vague it was really just a guessing game. Once installed it works great.

Good product not easy to install
Comment:
The card was good and works great once I went to mfg. site to download drivers. Not enough instructions I was very difficult for a novice like me to install. This is not a bootable card for hard drive can only use as backup.

Works great under XP, and HAS RAID feature. I can't boot from the card but that is due to my OLD on board BIOS. I would recommend it

Inexpensive way to expand
Comment:
I needed to replace the DVD RW I'd bought just a little over a year and a half ago and really liked the replacement I found here. But, not remembering that my system had only 2 on board SATA ports, both in use I needed to expand. Doing my homework a bit better this time I found relatively high marks for this inexpensive add in. Finding no real drawbacks, I purchased it a few weeks back and so far, so good. Installed it, the OS loaded the drivers straight away for both, and so far nary a hitch.

Linux Compatible
Comment:
I got this to upgrade my dying 60GB drive to a 1TB drive and it works on my Linux box. I've had Ubuntu and Fedora on it and they both work fine. I do not boot off of it since it is apparently not possible. I did have trouble when first installing it. It wouldn't get recognized by the OS. I took it out and bent a few resistors that were bent over and it worked. It was either that or it just needed to be reseated, but at any rate, after I got it going it has worked flawlessly. If you need this for a secondary drive I would definitely recommend, especially for the price.

This worked excellent to upgrade my 5 year old computer to be able to have a SATA DVD burner installed, as well as my old drive. Great option for upgrading without a great deal of expense.

Bad bad experience on this
Comment:
Love the idea. Dissatisfied with product. Only one of the three SATA ports worked on the one I received.Wanted to use several drives to store movies. Have been using external docking stations for drives, but transfers are slow, but viewing is fine. Thought this would be faster, but playback is occasionally jumpy. I'd return, but at 20 bucks for the card, I'd pay more for postage both ways!! Also, the external SATA is a regular SATA not ESATA, so if connecting to a hard drive dock, you'll need SATA to ESAT cable, not ESATA to ESATA as I ordered. Also, the external SATA connection is poorly position, making it impossible in many cases.
