I installed the PCI board without using the included disk as Vista recognized and loaded its own set of drivers. The system I use the unit in has 2 SATA ports and power connectors so additional "SATA power cord splitters" had to be purchased. In spite of this small issue the product itself works great.

Works good. Fast enough. No install problem. One comment, external SATA is of type L instead of type I. External SATA cable to connect external SATA drive must from type L to Type I.

Just installed this to add 2 more SATA drives to my server. I only bought it to make another mirror, and to that end it works just fine. The chipset on mine is the VIA 6421A. There is an included disc but I downloaded my drivers straight from VIA. The VIA raid tool can be used to manage your drives from within windows. I didn't do anything from the BIOS, I created my array right from my desktop. I can also see the status of all drives on the array, but the tool doesn't have an email notification on failure option which I generally prefer.

I used the card to add a SATA 300HD to a Dell Dimension 4400 (its BIOS does not support SATA) with Windows XP Professional. No problems doing that once I understood that I could not boot using that HD and the included drivers because they did not load until after the boot process. Masscool tech support was very helpful and pointed me toward the viaarena.com web site where I found updated drivers, but those instructions seemed to apply to the installation of XP rather than adding a new drive. I finally left the existing drive in the Dell and used the SATA drive as an expansion drive. This worked fine.

Had trouble figuring out which drive to use for my pc, called them up and reached a tech surprisingly fast. He told me which to install and has been working with no problem, purchase 3/06/09.

Setup was typical for a PCI adapter. The drivers supplied on the mini disk worked perfectly. Nice card.

I INSTALLED THIS CARD SO I CAN USE AN OLD IDE HARD DRIVE AS A BACKUP DRIVE. IT DOES WHAT I NEED IT TO DO, BUT THE DRIVERS ON THE CD WOULD NOT INSTALL, BUT WINDOWS VISTA X64 HAD THE DRIVERS AND IT FUNCTIONS. NO ERRORS OR OTHER PROBLEMS. AWESOME CPU COOLER. THIS THING REMOVES SO MUCH HEAT, IT ACTUALLY RAISED THE OUTSIDE ROOM TEMPERATURE. KEEPS MY QUAD CORE BELOW 40 DEGREES CELSIUS WHILE GAMING. QUIET FAN. VERY EFFICENT AND IT LOOKS LIKE A GREAT PIECE OF ART. SYSTEM: EVGA 780i FTW, Intel Quad Core Q9550 2.8GHz, 12MB Cache, 1333FSB, OCZ 1066MHz 4GB Ram (Four sticks 1GB each),Three SATA 500GB Hard Drives in RAID5, Three IDE 500GB Hard Drives, Two DVD Burners, Two EVGA GTX 260 Graphics Cards in SLI, Creative X-FI Titanium Fata1ity Sound, Corsair 750w Power Supply, Windows Vista Ultimate x64

I purchased this card from Tigerdirect 40 days a go and up to today I can't install it. I will get the following message; SORRY, THE INSTALL WIZARD CANT FIND THE SUPPORTED HARDWARE IN YOUR SYSTEM. I am very upset and frustrated. There was no instructions in the box.

Well, everything works like it says it does, I'm using vista and it will not let me use a dvd burner on this device and I have no idea why.

no instructions; wrong box; came with a short sata cable. click on VT-6421 on the top of the list when installing the drivers; reboot then hook up the drives. the drives are accessible in XP; but cannot be accessed in DOS; which is a bummer. because if a ghost image is on the disk; you cannot restore from it; or partition the disk in DOS using Partition magic. I needed an eXtra sata drive; and this was the cheapest means I could find; so I will have to live with it till I can afford a better motherboard my mother board only has 2 sata ports, Maybe there is a way to access the drives in DOS ????

I had trouble because there are no instructions. However, you should install the DRIVERS on the mini-cd...FIRST!!!! Use the right model number like VT-6421 when installing!! This is generally on the FEATURES sheet. It is not on the box!! I had installed the card first with the HDD drives and it ''bogged'', did not boot. After taking out the card and rebooting, I noticed that the RAID ICON was in the task tray, so I turned off the computer, and I reinstalled the card, rebooted,(which was normal speed), and it worked!!! I have a 500gb Western Digital with 4 partitions and they are all up and running. I gave it a 4 because of all the trouble I went through, and no instructions, but now that it is working, I decided it is pretty good. ;)

Worthless to me - a total waste of time and money. In Win XP/SP2 it seems to have no PnP capability. The card will install without hard drives attached but crashes when any drive is connected. I'm going to get either an Adaptec or Promise Technology card instead.
