Just to say to the post about using CAT5e or CAT6. They both support Gigabit just fine. Now Platinum Shielding is the finest way to go for interference. None, just the lack of other individuals information.

It is fairly inexpensive for a 10럼񲿘 Switch I have had experiences exactly where specific computers with Gigabit LAN controllers would not perform to this switch. The most current a single was an ASUS M2A-VM motherboard with a Realtek RTL8168񴮟 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC that would only attempt to connect at 100Mb and then fail. I have problems with a different ASUS motherboard but not all (I just built an i7 Intel Extreme with an ASUS P6T Deluxe but it has the Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller). I have placed a distinct brand in front of the Netgear and use it for most of my connections and it functions with almost everything. So be aware, if you are obtaining connectivity problems with this switch, it truly can be the switch and not the pc. Due to the fact the cons were lengthy I will restate: be aware, if you are obtaining connectivity troubles with this switch, it truly can be the switch and not the laptop or computer.

Nice concept if it worked. I've RMA'd three of these. I'm just about to go for my 4th. The dilemma has constantly been that 1 or more port does not work at Gigabit speeds. Plug the computer into a unique port and it operates fine -- go back to the negative port and you only get 100Mbps. This item is just Junk! I personal various other gigabit switches and haven't had any troubles with the rest.

- gigabit switch (upgrade from megabit switch)- 8 ports Ɣ more than that one particular I had prior to)- perform as expect: plug in power and network cable, that's it!- excellent cost - None! Ordered from newegg, and received v2 version of the switch. This switch seems to have a v3 version that functions much better with apple goods.

It's a low-cost 8 port Gigabit switch that does Gigabit speeds. Not considerably additional you could want from a basic switch. One of them locked up once. Which seriously isn't a lot of a con because had been up continuously for about three months and streams DVD ISOs and music from my NAS to 4 or five users at a time though also delivering the web connection to my house office. Unplugged the power cord for a couple seconds, plugged it back in and it's been fine ever since. Various evaluations have complained about heat. Possibly they've upgraded the components or the design in the final year or so mainly because I purchased both of mine inside the final 6 months and neither 1 gets more than a small warm on the bottom although sitting flat on a desk.

-modestly priced -runs very hot-immediately after a handful of years it began producing random network errors I'd advise seeking elsewhere for an 8 port GigE switch. Your switch (or possibly your network card) is the final thing you feel is broken when you start out having networking troubles. This piece of hardware appears to have a history of breaking.

This is my normal switch for office networks. I've typically always employed high finish switches in the past, but have been very pleased with these little buggers.Affordable, fast, dependable. They DO like to fall over if you have most of the ports full. Effortlessly remedied with a handful of cable ties.

Nice looking switch, goes effectively with my Netgear router. Superior gigabit speed on my property network - when it works. Merely plug it in and gigabit to go!Extended term NewEgg consumer. NewEgg is regularly, in my opinion, a 5 Star retailer. See below If a ten럼 personal computer is connected, other connections randomly drop from 1000mps to 100mps. Randomly drops speed to 100 with only gigabit computer systems attached as properly. Even on a fresh laptop or computer boot may connect at slower speed. Can correct speed by unplugging switch and rebooting it as necessary. Incredibly convenient! Following 2 weeks was going to return switch and when I went for an RMA there was a notice that the warranty/return had expired for this product. My 1st disappointment with NewEgg. Network consists of a MacBook pro G4, 1 dualboot 32bit XP Pro/Ubuntu, 1 dualboot 64bit XP Pro/Ubuntu, and 1 32 bit XP Pro. Various "guest" computer systems. In spite of this encounter, NewEgg remains my ş source for personal computer parts, accessories, and so on.

The switch operated as developed and brings super speed to a network that once had 100mbps. I have not run into any problem's. This is a great small switch if your hunting to adding gigabit to a smaller network with only a couple computer systems.

Great cost, and works like a champ! Had it on for 4 months now and not a single freeze or need to reset.I am continuously transferring 2-4GB files to/from a NAS device and it performs admirably. Obtaining about 43MB/sec from my workstation to this GS608 connected to a Netgear JGS524F that then has twin connections to my NAS on Gigabit. not totally cost-free! :-) Love the "plugs in back, lights in front" setup, and it goes wonderful with either a Pc or a Mac. Desktop switches with the plugs and lights in front are extremely unsightly, as you end up wrapping the cords behind them. Massive mess.

No fans so it's silent. Soon after a few days of use, it began power cycling itself every couple of minutes. The next day the power light would go on but it wouldn't make connections with any computers.

Operates nicely, no setup needed other than plugging in the cables, and offers a fantastic network speed. The only challenge that I've noticed is that occasionally the auto-negotiation of network speed could only enable a 100Mbps connection through a 1Gbps network card. I was in a position to move it to a unique port on the switch and it then connected at gigabit speed. Yet another fix would be to force gigabit in the network settings on the laptop or computer. I'm pleased with it general, and was able to get it at a extremely reasonable value.

It works (atleast for now)Just got this two days ago. Very nice searching switch. Doesn't slow down if you connect 100 Base T. Other reviews say there are reliability issue. Have to wait and see. I like the way this looks. Its out on the bottom rack of my dinning room hutch so I don't want it to stand out and look bad. This is the nicest searching switch I could find.

I bought this from Newegg in March 2005, it's been running 24ǝ given that devoid of a hitch, in temperatures ranging from 50f to above 90f and often below high loads. With 6 cables, the plastic clip-on stand doesn't work so well and the unit tends to topple over (it's really light.) I still prefer to use it to make sure maximum airflow about, as it does warm up a small, though never enough to be a problem. I'm connecting 4 ten럼񲿘 cards, a ten럼 and a TiVo that's restricted to 10Mbps.

The cost was appropriate. I was searching forward to getting 8 ports to perform with. I had it for 1 month prior to I even opened the box. Then I only utilized it for only A single MONTH. Currently I found it died after I tried to connect to the net via my Tivo and my laptop. When picked it up for troubleshooting, I could hear a lot of MOVING PARTS inside that seem to have disconnected. I can't verify they had been disconnected--didn't open it up--but there was no such sound when I initial installed it. I've been a devoted Netgear user for various years; and thus I was really disappointed. I'll try the manufacturer considering that it's also late to return it to Newegg.

Clean look, effortless to see LEDs Runs Extremely hot. As Chris stated on 03ቷ񳏊, I started seeing unexplained network problems soon after just brief of three years of use (purchased on 04ቬ񳏇 from Newegg). Ports would randomly drop to 10럼, or cause Server 2k8 to drop off the network fully. Additional lately (in about the final month or so) ports would not connect at all. Tonight, I energy cycled the switch and all port LEDs would cycle on/off/on/off on about a five-second cycle.I will also trash this one particular as Chris stated too. Ran too hot for my tastes.

This child worked correct out of the box! I mean I had it up and running on our home Ethernet Network in less than 1 minute flat. Anything worked perfectly. All PCs on our network negoiated at the proper speed and worked together more than the nearby and world-wide-web network flawlessly. Tiny. Desirable packaging. No noise or fan sounds. Fits right in with the decor, on your desktop or you name it. A++ None.

It was cheap at the time right after rebates and newegg was wonderful as usual. We purchased 6 of these for different uses at some of our offices. Everyone has failed in 6 months or less. Some with very light duty. Poor warranty and poor support from netgear. I have bought quite a few great netgear solutions, but this switch is not 1 of them. Pay a small additional for greater quality netgear switch then this. This is really unreliable and unacceptable for a business or property environment.

Easy - plug it in, connect the cables, and it functions. Stood vertically, this has a smaller footprint. No dilemma in 5+ months of ownership. My wife and I have 3 gigabit ethernet desktops (in our 1-space property office) and two laptops.Prior to using this switch in our network, transfers among our desktops had been gruesomely slow, networked by means of our 100 mbps router. Although every desktop is setup with a Raid 1 (two 500GB drives), 1 nevertheless requirements to back up. Our scheduled backup(s) for the computers are staggered in time, with Comp A saved to Comp B, B to C, and C to A. Adding this switch has made life fantastic! Jobs that utilised to take up to two hours to finish are now completed in between ten and twenty-5 minutes (depending upon what other processes could be operating at the time.) FWIW, the rebate procedure went smoothly and we had our rebate in about a month.Bottom line: Eight Ports and gigabit for ษ? It is a steal! This is a no-brainer. Bu None that we have knowledgeable. Rather lightweight plastic shell - both a pro and a con. At ษ, one particular can not expect magnesium alloy casing. We don't know if it will manage a fall, and we're not going to test it to let you know. :-)As such, just be careful to make positive that you secure the switch in a spot where it is not likely to be pulled accidentally and fall to the floor. Right from the 'get go', we took the extra precaution of taping the switch to the the support 'feet' and taping the support 'feet' to the shelf.

sexy looks, gigabit, 8 ports, the simplest setup, auto-sensing ports none that i can feel of this this is excellent for a standard switch, just plug in, turn on, and walk away. by no means required a reboot on my end. running three gig computers, netgear sph200d telephone, netgear sc101 nas, dlink print server, netgear access point and dlink dgl-4100 on this and its in no way let me down as soon as. probably runs a bit hot at space temperature, but i have it set up in my basement with the rest of my network backbone.
