had a problem with connection to power switch. Just soldered it. No problem after. Just pluged in the drive and it worked.

Well worth the price to me.
Comment:
Hooked mine up right after unpacking and followed the directions and recovered pictures and files I thought I had lost forever. Works on Win XP. Well worth the price to me. Gus

Not worth the trouble
Comment:
This item does not work. The unit kept going offline during even the lightest read operation, never mind writing. Save your money and buy some other item.

Easy to Use
Comment:
Very easy to use, comes with required cables. Nothing to putting in the hard drive and connecting it to your system.

Works with macs
Comment:
I've been backing up to a 300GB HD for about a month with no problems. Pretty simple setup (pay attention to the master-slave jumper). Comes with necessary cables

Good Product For The Price
Comment:
I had a problem with the first one that others had mentioned in their reviews where it worked once and then never again. But the second one I got here works great. Kind of a cheap enclosure, but for $20 what do you expect.

Not good for recovering data
Comment:
I bought it to recover data from old drive. The connection was to a new Vista computer, and it found the drive with no problem even with out software. But vista saw the drive as a new one, and kept saying I had to format the drive before I could use it. This would erase everything on the drive, so it was of no use to me. I could of course use the enclosure as a backup if I formated the drive.

not worth the money
Comment:
I bought this and it only worked right once. On both XP and Vista it would not allow me to safely remove it. I also was unable to see the drive but it would work with a 5.25 inch drive but not the 3.5 hard drive that it shoudl work with

It does what it's meant to do
Comment:
Fairly basic construction but easy to assemble. The instructions were fine and included the vital note regarding how to set the jumpers on the HDD. The drive was secured in the case properly and I was able to access my old IDE HDD rescued from a dead PC on three different newer PCs with problems. It worked for me.

Get What You Pay For
Comment:
Unit broke into pieces while moving from desk to desk. However, aside from the casing, the inside components work just fine. I simply re-glued the casing best I could. If you buy, handle with care.

I worked Just One Time
Comment:
1st day - I put at drive in it and it worked. The very next day, I went back to get a couple more files and it would not access the drive. I took the drive out of the unit and connected it to a workstation to get my files. It worked one time that that's it!

about what you would expect at this price
Comment:
pretty low quality, super basics features and about as bad as you can get away with...the drive is not actually secured within the /plastic/ case, it merely rattles around!

Works as advertised.
Comment:
This enclosure is your basic, no frills, case. It works fine, looks good when assembled and has a very nice stand. Assembly is not quite idiot proof so pay attention to the screw sizes and lengths. The instructions might as well not exist for all the good they do so study the assembly before you put it together. It's not quite as simple as it looks. And - as with all external drive enclosures - make sure that you put your drive position jumper on "Master/Single" NOT "Cable Select." If in doubt, plug in all the wiring and test the setup with your computer BEFORE you put the drive in the case. It you do these simple things, it will work perfectly for you.

It worth the cost to recover old information
Comment:
If you loose yoer older machine and do not have a IDE set up this unit will work to recover data. I would not do any major data saving or use the unit as a main drive as there is no cooling but it is worth the money to save data from an IDE drive.

Comment:
I bought one a couple days ago. Looks cheap, built cheap, but it does what it suppose to do. The case will heat up if you transferring a whole hard drive to it at once, but to back up some songs or pictures etc., it is well worth your money. The book tells you to format to fat 32 or 64, no need to do that. I just took my NSTF IDE drive and stuck it in there and formatted the thing afterwards. Works just like another hard drive in your case. No need to spend big bucks. I going to get another one. Oh, one more thing, the little slot on the front isn't a light, it is a little slot. It comes with its own screws and screw driver too.

Comment:
while i agree that 20 dollars is a good price for this product, the quality of this product is pathetic. when i got the drive installed i was surprised to find that one of the screw wholes was missing its treads and was thus useless. on top of that the power cord didnt work unless i was holding it in place. there are better options.

Comment:
Works like a charm, most drives won't work under XP without being jumpered to ''Master'', the book does not tell you that..several attempts on ''CS'' to no avail.
