Tiger Direct delivered this in record time. It worked right out of the box on a 20GB drive. But on the 40GB drive, I got nothing. I checked all the documentation on the driver CD. Nothing helped. It wasn't until I read another review on the Tiger Direct site that I found I had to change the jumper settings to Cable Select. If I hadn't read that I would have returned this item to Sabrent (which sounds like it would have been it's only slice of hell). Good product for the price, bad documentation.

Received 2 enclosures and neither worked. Wires were broken inside (right next to the QC sticker). Got the run around from the company when trying to return broken items. I will never purchase from this manufacturer again.

My Dad bought a famous brand external drive at a box store to store his digital pix. The thing died 3 months later, he didn't have his photos backed up, and he was distraught. I literally broke the drive out of the bad enclosure and popped it into this one. For $20 and five minutes of work, I was a hero. It worked right out of the box and it's still working. He got his photos and everyone's happy. What more can you ask?

Mine was received this one two days ago. At first I had trouble with the drives being recongnized. I tried two different drives (both eide) and both would fail to constantly be recognized. Come to find out both my drives had died. Not the enclosures fault. So I put an old 10g WD drive in and it works like a charm. No problems at all. The drive is now full. For the price you cant beat it. All the provided parts work correctly. THE DRIVES DO HAVE TO BE SET AS CABLE SELECT. I will order another as well as a new drive very soon. Although I may as well order another enclosure from another company as well. One that is better suited for larger transfers at faster rates. But for now this one works. For those concidering this enclosure. Do it. You'd be suprised how simple it is to use and its pretty decent quality as well.

Slides that mount to the hard drive are very easy to break by over tightening. Be careful. Also, the power supply on my particular enclosure went out after about 5 months of use. *If you do need to contact Sabrent for warranty reasons, save your time by not calling the support phone number 626-336-6363. All the woman tells you is that you must send an email to support@sabrent.com. Not very helpful.

I got 3 of these to house some old IDE HD's I have. (80, 160, & 250 GB's ) They were simple to put together & Vista installed them without my help. They look great too. Flat black with no annoying lights. Just a simple green LED. They sit in a fairly cool looking silver half moon shaped stand. If I could change them at all Id put the LED on the opposite end of the power switch & cables so I could run the power cables out the back & still see the green LED to verify it was on or off. For that reason I gave it 4 stars for features. The only real negative is they seem to run fairly warm. But, Ive never used enclosures with IDE HD's so I dont know how warm an aluminum case thats supposed to draw off heat is supposed to get. I have a 160 GB external Fantom Drive drive & it gets warm too. So Im not sure. But, I only plan to use them for storage & they will be turned off when not transferring files. Because I just got them & havent used them much, I geve it 4 stars for performance.

Order 2 of these. Both came in boxes that were scratch. 1 of these did not work right out of the box. Not happy that these looked used and one of them did not even work.

Comes with a much better stand than shown in picture . Won't tip over easily .The stand supplied with it is shaped like a twin arch and just slip it over the case .For a very quiet operation just set the case with HD in it on a mouse pad foam side up .you wont hear this thing at all . Stuck a 80G WD HD in it and the light also serves as a HD activity indicator and changes color . I formatted the HD to NTSF and this thing worked like a champ transferring Vids and music files . Would buy one again .Had NO problems .While in operation the case was cool to the touch .As long as there is a lot of air movement around this HD case there shouldn't be a problem with overheating .

Picked one of these up while in the store. Installation was easy (make sure the HD is set for Cable Select [CS]). Works with Vista without problems. A good buy for the money IMO.

Arrived yesterday, diode never lit up, brick overheated and now must go through sabrent, by email to get an RA. My advice do not buy and do not buy items that you must go thru a 3rd party for an RA on defective parts.

I received this item along with others in record time thanks to TigerDirect. The quality of the product was pretty good, but there turned out to be an electrical short on the first unit I received. Hopefully the replacement will be much better.

I've got two of these. They are great. I've got a Maxtor 500gb in one and a WD 160gb in the other. Both work awesome. Great price too!

Fabulous product. Extremely Fast shipping. Assembly was straight forward and instructions were adequate, though I didn't need them. Quiet operation. Slick looks. The only thing that might be a problem is the power connector into the back of the enclosure: It doesn't want to stay put. I guess if it is sitting still on a desk it won't matter. BTW, I used an 80GB Western Digital HD.

Broke a plastic part while disassembling. However unit still works,no problem using a 200 gig Maxtor ATA. Indicator light, cables and switch all on same side.

Windows XP Home SP2. HP Pavilion a620n. Maxtor 100 GB Installation. After figering out how to install the hard drive without instructions, everything went smoothly. The Hard drive had been formatted for Windows XP. The jumper setting was set as Master. (Nice the manufacturer supplies a screwdriver) Windows XP sees the external drive automatically. I would purchas this model again.

Took my old WD 40gb IDE slave disk out of my old computer and slipped it in this enclosure to easily transfer all my data to a new computer with the USB connector. I now use it for external back-up. I had no problem at all slipping the drive into the enclosure and, (despite other review comments), the slide rail assembly seemed simple and straight-forward enough. However, setting the drive to ''master'', as instructed, did not work. It was necessary to instead set it to ''cable-select''. Then worked fine. I like the rear toggle power-switch, because I can leave it turned-off until I want to back-up data.

It's metal, black, sleek, and has no lights on the front except for one on the back. Finally no annoying flickering lights or fan. The instructions are a little lacking on assembly. A picture and “Press here to open” inscribed on the box would be enough. It comes with a screw driver (magnetic, oddly enough) and 6 screws. Remove the strips on the sides and press the larger of the two black dots on one side to pop off the terminal end. HD temp doesn’t seem to be a problem at all. My 40 Gb IBM deskstar makes zero noise before the enclosure and still makes zero noise in the enclosure. I would buy another if needed. $27 with shipping and you have a very nice backup device. Cheaper than flash.

Easily installed drive in about 3 minutes. Took advice from another reviewer and switched drive to CS. 120gb WD hard drive worked immediately with Windows XP Home. Connections are tighter than I like but the drive works fine. USB cable could be longer, but the price is right.

Great enclosure, holds drive securely (I didn't have any of the install troubles that others have spoken of, just make sure jumper on drive is set to ''cable select'' and use Windows Disc Manager to partition/format drive) ... No cooling troubles even when 3 are stacked directly on each other (I use these as portable storage for DJ/Karaoke shows and have been known to tape 2 or 3 together to keep them from bouncing around) ... I would like the power cord to be a little longer or more secure on the drive end (a small tweak of the plug adds a bit more security) but other than that, a great, reliable enclosure for the $$$! Just bought three of these for some 80gb hard drives with data I needed to access. I was nervous after reading some of the reviews. Each drive took me about five minutes to build. They are all working perfectly and fast and my data was all in tact. I experienced ZERO problems and had to make zero adjustments. They do warm up with heavy use, but have not experienced any problems with inadequate heat dissipation. the instructions are lacking so some experience helps. I set the drives to the MASTER setting as recommended and they worked first time up. Good value!

Great little 3.5' inclosure.Put my older 60 gig Maxtor hard drive into the Sebrant with a bit of difficulty,due to the poor instructions''a picture is worth a thousand words''.Had it hooked up and running in forty minutes.Well worth the money to utilise a surplus hard drive as an external drive.

I ordered this item and it was here in 3 days as promised. Had it installed and up and running in 15 minutes. The only problem i see with it is you have to force the end closed after attaching the cable. I will definitly buy from tiger again!
