SYBA SD-SATA150R PCI SATA Controller Card
Comment:
Sort of works. I use to run a DVD drive, and it does read the discs. I can't boot from it. A huge "Con". All four of my SATA ports on the MB are total of challenging drives. I use this card to run the DVD drive. Windows 7 identified it and installed drivers; now Windows won't let me set up the drivers from the CD that came with the card--says the at the moment installed drivers are up to date. Not being in a position to boot with it is a deal breaker. It seems like the machine doesn't recognize the DVD drive until it's too late to boot from it. I'm at a loss as to what to do.

It worked when I plug it into the laptop or computer already operating an installation of Windows XP. It crashes the Windows XP setup approach when I do make a clean OS installation employing this piece of hardware. The flash-memory chip used on this controller is unknown to the Silicon Image Si3112 driver software program, so I can not update the controller's BIOS.

This card Co-Existed with a 3114 card wǚ SATA ports. It installed quickly and I ran it, very first for independent SATA Drives, then later, I ran my OS with a mirrored array of two 160 GB Drives: I liked it superior than the Via controller that was on my motherboard For the last week, it has been failing the single drive. Then currently, it notified me of "NVRAM Failure" This is the first Average rating I have offered a item. Either I enjoy a item or I hate it. I loved this when I got it... But now I am disappointed with it.Hopefully I bought this item here... And it may be covered by some kind of warranty. If Not: I am SOOL for the card. But... For the value I am not complaining. The By way of Card created arrays that were completely incompatible with the arrays I made on this one particular. So regardless of if this a single failed, I favor it more than any Via controller, any day, any weeeak.

Performs well, does what it is supposed to do. Had a smaller concern with the computer system I was upgrading for a friend. Windows XP does not come with integrated SATA drivers. In order to do an install with third celebration drivers one have to have the drivers on a floppy disk. Who owns a floppy disk these days? I was capable to overcome this by slipstreaming the drivers into the windows XP install disk and burning a new one. Worked perfectly immediately after that. This is not a con for the item, but make the manufacturers really should consist of the drivers on a floppy as effectively, just in situation other individuals are not able to produce integrated install disks. For an old Dell Dimension 4400 this issue produced it achievable to run a Raptor X. Talk about putting a V8 in a small old Toyota.

It is has a low cost, and it supposedly works with Linux. THIS Issue CORRUPTS Information! Searching the World wide web reveals I am not the only 1 with this dilemma. I lost more than 100GB of data due to this controller. I tested it with several drives. If I copy any significant file to or from a drive connected to it, random bits in the file are changed.

This is an update to a prior review... "Working Effectively" on 12ቶቦ And right here is the update. This product has been more than intermittent after the 1st week. I have tried distinct cables. I have tried diverse slots on the mobo. I have tried larger PSU's. I have even tried it in other computers. If I shut the Fileserver (FS) down for a lengthy period of time, it works fine when I reboot. However, when I leave it operating for a extended time, drive recognition is sporadic at greatest. I can raid the drives in OpenSuSe 11.three when I first start off it up. Drives are recognized fine. However, right after an hour or so up, it drops one particular or each of the drives. So, I restart the FS and when the raid utility comes up, it once more sporadically recognizes the drives. Occasionally 1, occasionally 2, from time to time 1 with the incorrect size and odd characters as the drive, at times both the same way, occasionally it doesn't recognize either and hangs the whole technique in the course of boot. I'm not even going to bother with this. I'll just uncover a different card with hopefully better critiques.

Little profile, inexpensive, and operates with linux on a old PIII HP desktop. So far so excellent, hope it final! I had to erase the RAID BIOS to get this card to work with my FC7 box appropriately. Not really a con but it is some thing I had to do additional. I'm working with this to add 2 500gig SATA drives to my linux file/everything server. I'm not working with this to boot linux just as added storage. I have them in a software RAID1 through mdadm and it's working perfectly. I had to take one more posters assistance and erase flash so it would function appropriately with my box. Ahead of I erased the flash I had to manually press F2 to continue to boot which was a hassle due to the fact I run it headless.

Definately did the job it was advertised to do at a great price. Doesn't overclock well (see "Other Thoughts"). Lesson Learned:I had been slightly more than clocking my CPU and I couldn't effectively format my new SATA HDD (through the XP Pro set up) until I throttled the CPU back to its intended clock rate. Till I did this, XP would report that it couldn't successfully format the disk with the NTFS file technique.

Was detected with no dilemma. I loaded up the drivers by way of the cd but I genuinely didn't need to have to. Mainly because I am working with the new hd as a backup, I am not making use of the internal connection for the hd light, kinda nifty characteristic. I am not carrying out anything unique with the new hd but speeds appear regular. Actual easy way to add a sata to an old ide mb. As a bonus, the price was excellent. None. At initial my laptop was freezing just following booting up, but I discovered out that was due to the fact of my soundcard. For all of you persons with old pc's like myself, this card is a good investment for expansion.

Affordable. Effortless to upgrade (flash BIOS). Installation was a breeze. W2K found it suitable off, without issue. Cheap. Wished the monitoring software would give superior S.M.A.R.T reporting. All it says is "OK" I had information integrity problems in my RAID installation under Windows 2000 Server. Employing two x 500gig WD drives. Even bought a third drive since 1 of the 1st two had some mileage on it and I wasnt confident in it. Two brand new drives still gave data errors....Mainly in I/O intense operation. But how intense can 1 user make the I/O operation??? I've got a RMA request in to the mfg'er (not a NewEgg acquire). Manufacturer Response:Dear Consumer,This card only supports SATA I transfer speed, you may possibly need to jumper your SATA II hard drive to SATA I transfer rate at 1.5Gb/s. All of our merchandise come with at least three years warranty. Please don't hesitate to contact us at support-us@syba.com if you have any problem or question.Regards,Syba Client Service

It's very cheap, has a decent BIOS interface, and IS LINUX COMPATIBLE (for all of you who had been asking yourself, working with the default Debian three.1 2.6 kernel). I seriously had to jam it in the PCI slot due to poor PCB shaping - the slot gapping was a small narrow. For the money it's a relatively decent card. As lengthy as you realize you're not paying for - and therefore not receiving - a Highpoint, Promise, or Adaptec product you'll be pleasantly shocked.

It operates below linux (Slackware 12. in my case) It needs a fair amount of function to get it to work, at least in my case. I had a challenge with the laptop or computer's BIOS wanting to try to boot the new drive on the SATA controller very first instead of my old IDE drive which had the OS on it. If I unplugged the SATA drive throughout bootup and then hot-plugged it in following linux started it would work, but it would have an error if the SATA drive was plugged in in the course of bootup. Solution: Erase the SATA controller's RAID BIOS. To do this you will need to download the BIOS update utility from SiliconImage http://www.siliconimage.com/docs/SiI3x12A-PcຈSerialຈATAຈ(SATA)ຈBIOSຈFlashຈUtilities.zip and then working with the UPDFLASH and a Window's floppy boot disk execute the UPDFLASH.exe plan from the command line and instruct it to "Erase" the flash on the controller.

Extremely inexpensive.Modest card size.Straightforward BIOS for configuration.Silicon Image makes drivers and BIOS available straight. Tricky to use under Linux.Syba websute for help is worthless. Was unable to update BIOS for the card from inside Windows or DOS as a previous user had posted. The fix is to run the DOS flash tool. You will then be presented with a menu of flash devices since it could not detect the suitable one. Select selection Ţ 'SST39SF010 1Mb Compatible'. It will update successfully.I could not get the RHEL4 driver to load at set up time even immediately after updating the BIOS. Was trying to use in CentOS 4.2 and really should have worked the identical. Beneath Debian Sarge it was recognized as two disks instead of a single mirrored disk. SI does not supply a Debian RAID driver specifically.

Functions fantastic when only employing 1 card. Linux detects the card perfectly I have had continuous issues when employing two of these cards. If I remove a single card, method boots fine. Two cards often causes complications. Don't get if you require to use a lot more than 1 if you are utilizing Linux.

Real simple to use plug and play Had minor matters with drivers getting listed incorrect on the CD and this card wouldn't function with the 320gb hardrive I purchased. They didn't list what size hardrives function with this card so I was uninformed. But it worked terrific when I plugged anything under 150gigs into it so it's still helpful.

Set up RAID with no problems at all. No drivers necessary for hardware RAID with Gigabyte GA-8S648FXP-RZ. Just installed and initialized. Lack of documentation. This card is an amazing bargain. I own two of them and have had no dilemma running two RAID configurations in one box. Obviously, if restricted downtime was crutial you would want to purchase a card that would help far more RAID functions ƕ,ten,Ư). This card does exactally what it is supposed to do - supply RAID and RAID 1 at a low price tag.

SYBA SD-SATA150R PCI SATA Controller Card
Comment:
The card works well to give SATA I support to older computers and give a level of RAID help that may possibly be valuable to some consumers not necessarily needing strict, all-out efficiency. The card I received makes use of the Silicon Image 3512 chip, referred to most generally as SiL3512. Drivers for the chipset are easy to locate for Windows (and are integrated on the CD shipped with the card), and most Linux kernel distros beyond 2.four have modules prepared for the card. This card is no substitute for an actual RAID card, and does not give the same efficiency that an actual RAID card with devoted memory/processing energy would. The greatest thing this card, and generally any other <贄 card out there, is basically to add SATA assistance to an older laptop. I had a issue with a RAID1 set in which a drive would randomly drop from the array and leave it degraded. This was periodic, and a shutdown and reboot seemed to fix every little thing. Soon sufficient I located the challenge was that the drive(s) in question had been performing error recovery from a read or write, and when taking too extended to do so, the RAID card would reset the connection to the drive. The notification software package saw this as a problematic drive, and thusly marked it faulty. The resolution was to enable TLER, so that the drive returned to regular operation more quickly immediately after an error. A TLER setting of about 5 or 6 (seconds) worked for me.

Simple installation in Windows.Comes with sata cable. It says it supports linux on here and the manufacturers website, but the documentation shipped with it doesn't even mention linux or netware. No drivers for linux shipped. Every thing is detected correctly within linux, but I get errors. Good card for a Windows machine, otherwise it takes some tweaking.
