I picked it up for a budget build on Black Friday for $50. So far no complaints from the user (a family member). If purchasing at regular price, however, I would suggest getting the 64Mb cache version of this 1Tb hard drive for $5 more.

Packaging was okay but the box was too large for the two hard drives and would've been bouncing around inside the box. First order from NCIX and received no hard drives in working condition. Not great.

That is the problem with reviews, especially for hard drives - the products are always new and testing is limited to a short time frame. While people may be concerned with noise, heat and performance, most are at least equally concerned with reliability since they usually plan on using their drives for years. Well, this one certainly isn't the fastest drive, but I would be surprised if most people expected it to be. It has two platters and only 32 MB of cache compared, for example, to the slightly more expensive single platter, 64 MB cache sibling Seagate offers.I got two of these drives on sale for about fifty bucks apiece, which is a pretty decent deal these days, and since they were destined for my backup server, raw speed wasn't the biggest issue. I do hope that they last, but, unless they decide to fail at the same time as one of the drives I've backed up to them, even that won't be critical. They both made it through full formats (ugh!) okay, so here's hoping.Would I reall buy again? Time will tell. I can only give them four stars for now under the circumstances, not because I have any problems with the drives, but because I have no good way of knowing if I will going forward.

Pros:Easy to install. Comment: The new drive is working great for me now. No issues that I've noticed, and the space is great to have. I've been downloading more games from Steam onto it and had no problems using it ever since.

I can't say sufficient great factors about Seagate's free downloadable disk wizard software program suite. I had a 320 gig Seagate that was partitioned into two equal parts of 160 gigs, and was set up to dual boot Windows 7 and Windows XP. The disk wizard allowed me to migrate both partitions into two bigger partitions on the new drive with no hassles whatsoever. Now I have all the space I need for all of my games, and I can preserve my old drive as a backup in case of trouble. Go Seagate! I strategy to never ever obtain another brand once again, and I have used numerous other individuals in the previous. None so far. Good and quiet, I have eight of these purring away in a raid5 array with a promise controller. raid five seq speeds 300+mb/sec read and write (with cache of course). For a SATA3 drive, would like to have seen 64mb cache. 6gig link not detected by my promise 8760t raid controller, not sure who is to blame for that, controller fell back to a 3gig link. IOPS are genuine low, super slow random read/write occasions, but it's a affordable drive so that isn't a enormous surprise. Shame on seagate for flimsy static bags, instead of the nice 'sea shell' containers. 1 egg off for tiny-ish cache and no sea-shell. Bonus points to Newegg; they correctly packed the drives on my final order, every single drive in its own box, within a more substantial box, rather of the usual floating shed wrapped with bubble wrap and tape.
