Ultra 20/24 Pin Power Supply Tester

Comment:
I've tested about 20 power supply units with this device and all of the passed. The only problem was three of those power supplies would not power their computers. Event thought this tester indicated they were good, they would not power their computers. I replaced those three power supplies with new ones of the same power rating and the computers worked fine. I've talked to Ultra and went over the operating instructions just to make sure I was doing it right. Ultra is replacing my unit under the warrantly. Hopefully the new one will work right.

This does not work on my Dell computers. Another reason not to buy Dell, the outfit that gives mail order a bad name.

Definitely a useful tool for an IT tech. It has helped me diagnose more than one blue screen or boot failure problem.

I bought this with my components to build my PC. After plugging everything in, turned it on and nothing. Thought I had a dead power supply and ready to return it. Then I removed the power supply from my case, brought it to another outlet and connected to this Ultra power tester. It turned on and the tester showed it is working. So I reinstalled it in my case and connected each plug correctly. Voila, my system powered up and is working properly now. This thing saved me.

I don't know why I went so long without this in my toolbox. It would have saved me time and money if I did have this. It simply works just like it says it would. Takes a few seconds to hook up and diagnose a good or bad power supply as opposed to hooking up the system to a different power supply just to see if it would power up. I had trouble with my PC were the one of my hard drives was shutting down. I suspected my PSU. I bought this PSU tester since the PSU is made by Ultra also. I tested my PSU and the 12v leads failed. I exchanged it with a new one by warranty. I tested my new PSU and the test failed the 5v connector on the 24 pin main connector. Also the same two 12v leads failed their test. I don't think this tester is reliable and didn't save me any troubleshooting time. Don't waste your time and money on it.

Started to use it the first time, it doesn't work. Ultra warranty wants you to give them your cc number to send a replacement. When they receive the one I have now, they will credit my cc.. I was born during the day but not yesterday. No problem send it back for replacement but no way are they getting my cc number.

This tested one power supply good that would not power up when connected to mother board. Replaced power supply with a spare and now everyting is ok. So it may check a bad supply good. That being said I am glad I purchased the tester.

This tester gave me some inconsistent results on a good power supply, but definitely ID'd a bad one. Also, it's nice to have a load for a power supply if I want to check fans out, etc. Very much worth the cost! Would buy again. As usual, got 2 day service from TD.

I had a powerup problem with a new build, and this definitely traced the issue to a partially functioning PS which I wasn't sure could be the case. Recommended for noob builders like me.

I think everyone should have one of these. It eliminates confusion or some testing steps to find out where the problem is. I tested each plug output from the power supply before assembly, and knew that the proper voltage was on that line. This helped me determine, the direction of my troubleshooting and enabled me to find a bad hard drive right away.
