Vantec NS CX 3.5 SATA to USB/eSATA HD Encl-BLK
Cons:esata cable is too shallow.

Pros:It worked after some tinkering.
Comment:
I was very disappointed when it would not connect. The esata cable that comes with it may have a too shallow of a connector for your computer. If I jammed in the cable to the point my case flexed it connected. I will now be getting a new cable.

Vantec NS CX 3.5 SATA to USB/eSATA HD Encl-BLK
Cons:Pas USB 3.0.

I picked up a couple of these on sale to have around. I notice that the cable will come loose from the included PCI bracket very easily. Overall it works good.

Vantec NS CX 3.5 SATA to USB/eSATA HD Encl-BLK
Cons:-power cord is too short-supplied plastic stand does not lay flat and is wobbly.-passive cooling might not enough for some users.

Pros:-eSata option-build quality-included accessories-ease of assembly
Comment:
Overall this enclosure offers good value and works as intended, eSata option is nice and they even give you an eSata i/o port to plug into an empty slot.Goes together in a snap, seems to dissipate heat fairly well though not sure if I would use this for anything other than the typical backup and file transfers since it's only relies on passive cooling with no vents.Comes with everything you need and packaged nicely, just add your favorite HDD and that's it.Supplied stand is not wide enough at the base nor is it level, the drive wobbles and can easily be knocked over, I plan to fix this or just live with it. Thought about laying it flat and adding some rubber feet but that may have a negative effect on the cooling.

Vantec NS CX 3.5 SATA to USB/eSATA HD Encl-BLK
Cons:false Esatablue led

Pros:QuietAluminium caseeasy mount hard drive system
Comment:
Beautiful box, very easy to set up a hard disk, holds much noiseMy big disappointment was to see that the esata case is a false esata, so I was disappointed not being able to connect directly to my motherboard. If wants to have it connected via eSATA, it must make the case for extension esata but when all sata ports are taken except that the motherboard is quite a pity. But other than that, its still a good case.

Cons:Blue LED is super bright

Pros:It works with my Shaw DCT3146 PVR
Comment:
I bought it to expand my Shaw DCT3146 (DCT 3416) PVR. I paired it with a Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB drive. I put black tape over the blue LED. See the "Attached to Shaw HD PVR" thread in the NCIX forums for this case for instructions/details.Works great!

Great enclosure for a good price
Comment:
Not much to it, it's an enclosure for a SATA drive. I've used it with several drives and it works great. Added plus is that it looks pretty nice too, better than my older plastic enclosures.

eSata slower than USB
Comment:
I bought this enclosure for my son who is serving in the Army in the Middle East. I inserted a 500GB SATA harddrive and loaded it up with data. I interfaced it to my PC using the eSATA connector but found the data transfer to be quite slow. I then interfaced them using the USB connection and the data transfer rate was much faster. I would have demanded an exchange if not for the fact that my son's laptop does not have an eSATA interface.

Vantec NS CX 3.5 SATA to USB/eSATA HD Encl-BLK
Cons:bright blue led light

Pros:light and quite
Comment:
Great enclosure! Packaged with all necessary cables so didn't have to buy any extras. Very simple to install. I'm using this to house a WD 1TB HDD for my shaw PVR and it's been working great. If you have this in the bedroom, just be mindful of the blue led light. It's quite bright...you can put a piece of tape over it to cover up the light if it bothers you.The esata cable that comes with it was just the right length so if you want it further away from your pvr due to space or whatever, may want to pick up a longer esata cable just in case. Overall, would definitely recommend the case and would buy another one again if needed.

Vantec NS CX 3.5 SATA to USB/eSATA HD Encl-BLK
Cons:Would have liked it if design was tooless, even if it used pressure snapping of some sort would have been niceCords are way too short, the usb cord's only about 2 feet long. The power cord's equally short, it's only about 2 and a half feet maybe. The drive gets a little too warm for my taste, and that was idle activity, I just had it sitting there waiting for me to transfer files over and it was warm to the touch (a 500 GB seagate)A tad too heavy, even without the hard drive installed. (both a good and bad thing, the weight of just the enclosure itself shows that it's a good quality enclosure)Paint on enclosure easily scratches off, I had it just sitting on the desk and it slid across it just slightly and chips of the paint came off in 2 different spots.I don't like the fact that it doesn't hook up to firewire, however, that's more of a mistake on my end. I was assuming that esata = fireware compatible.

Pros:Supports every 1TB drive I ownPortable solution for backing up documents/files/mediaDecent read/write speedsPlug it in and it shows up as a physical hard drive, not a removable diskNice blue led to indicate drive activityVertical stand for added creativity and space savingEasy installation of hard drives making swapping of hard drives an easy task
Comment:
I ordered this drive on January 8th, received it on the 12th. (even though I paid $15 for express shipping.........) Got it on regular price of $30, but still, for that price it's a good deal, beats buying an additional drive for $75. I like the fact that it's usb and that it's portable. The overal design of the unit is very good indeed, the weight of the enclosure told me that it was a quality piece of hardware. The black finish is nice but I would have liked it better if they used a better quality paint finish, it chips. This thing supports all of my 1TB hard drives and that's sweet 'cause I have like 5 of them. I can easily bring this enclosure paired with one of my 1TB drives and steal a buncha stuff from my family now.

Vantec NS CX 3.5 SATA to USB/eSATA HD Encl-BLK
Cons:Plastic Ends to EnclosureLED too bright

Pros:Aluminium CaseUSB & eSATAAccesories (including eSATA bracket)
Comment:
Got about 9 of these so far for work. Very affordable compared to the other options; solid construction. Best budget eSATA enclosure on the market right now IMO.The accessories are nice as well, with the superfluous power adapter, USB & eSATA cables, plastic vertical stand etc., but the really nice touch was the SATA to eSATA adapter bracket for PCs =).The only nitpicks if you want to call them that are the plastic end caps for the case instead of aluminium, and the blue power LED is piercing bright if you have one of them on your desk, not so much of a problem when they're buried in a cold dark server room though.

Vantec NS CX 3.5 SATA to USB/eSATA HD Encl-BLK
Cons:none so far

Pros:Price, quality, esata, cabling
Comment:
Wow, pleasantly surprised with the quality of the enclosure and simplicity of installing the hd. Just slide out the tray, slide the hd up to the sata and power connectors and connect to the hd tray, slide it back into the enclosure and put the screws in and you are ready to plug it into your computer or pace pvr. Regular price on this item is reasonable imho, but if I see it on sale, I will buy another even if there is no immediate need. Paired this with a WD Green 1.5tb, connected to Pace PVR DC758. Works great. Also comes with cabling for usb and the esata to go from the mb to back of case(SATA to eSATA Bracket) and another esata cable.

Good, reliable enclosure
Comment:
I have purchased approximately 10 of these enclosures over the past year running 1-1.5 TB drives for backups. Haven't had any enclosure-related problems in that time. eSATA works well and is at least a few times faster than USB in practice, and it's nice that these come with SATA to eSATA brackets. My only gripe is on a couple of the enclosures the activity light does not work. This may be a connection issue when the drive is inserted into the enclosure, not quite sure. Doesn't really bother me, the LED itself is extremely bright and can be a little annoying if you have to look at it. It can be disconnected if it it's that big of a problem for the owner. All in all, quite happy with these and planning on purchasing a few more. The build quality is excellent, only took off one star because of the LED issues.
