Comment:
Sleek design, uncomplicated assembly, aluminum case does a good job of pulling heat off the HDD Could use a sleeve or simple pouch for storage, no power AC power adapter included Some other reviewer complained that the drive would ONLY perform with the integrated USB cable...I utilised the cable from the enclosure I was replacing, and it worked just fine...in truth the cable they provided DID NOT perform and crashed explorer (XP, SP3)...weird!

Functions perfectly albeit with out its enclosure attached. Will just have to use it as a temporary way of extracting information from 2.five" SATA drives. Disappointed to uncover that my 4200 RPM two.5" Fujitsu SATA drive is too big for the case. Description ought to problem an advisory to check height of your drive. It doesn't function with just about every 2.5" SATA drive, evidently.

Functional and affordable. Little. Looks very good. Yet one more two.five" enclosure in which the drive is completely unsecured. The only connection to the drive is the SATA power & information. No screws, no clips, no nothing. The drive is left to rattle about in whatever space is left in the case. This appears to be typical though. All I want are a few screws :)

Comment:
Pretty standard two.5" enclosure. I got it for one reason, to perform with my Wii, and it functions like a charm (third enclosure I've tried, initially two had been not compatible). It also is powered off just the single USB connection, which reduces the number of cables crucial. The sides have almost sharp edges created up of strange sort of "fins" if you will, nearly making a channel for which to run wires via (this is not really the intended objective, although). Fundamental enclosure that functions as advertised. If you have a two.five" SATA disk lying about and you want to use it with your Wii, this is what you need to have.

Comment:
Really uncomplicated, two screws to get rid of to swap drives. It gets energy from USB2. The metal utilized is of decent high quality. It's thin and doesn't rattle. It can get warm following a couple of hours of use, but this is in fact normal. There are no cooling vents, but it is just a slim external case.

Fantastic price with free of charge shipping. Solid create. Simple installation of HD. HATE the Y cable & at initially it didn't appear to work with no it with my laptop, possibly just when formatting the installed HD? Instruction booklet is a waste of paper, though most folks may well not require it anyway. I'd have given it a five star rating if I had to use the Y cable (and which I have only 1 of, vs. quite a few single cables). I read evaluations exactly where some folks didn't have to use the Y cable on their laptops, so I thought I'd take the likelihood too, following initial set up I was worried that I'd want it, but it appears to run with a single USB cable.

Quite thin, USB powered, and sturdy metal case Enclosure does not operate with 640GB WD drive purchased. (from Vantec webpage) Hard drive capacity is 500 GB not 640 GB advertized by Newegg. Also, drive does not screw into the case, only held in by the SATA connection One of the Christmas presents for my wife, not good... My mistake by not reading a couple much more reviews. I have produced really a few purchases with Newegg and this is the initial time to be steered wrong. When I purchased the drive, this enclosure popped up as the item to go with it...

Fantastic little external enclosure! Acquire a couple of these over the years. Have a WD 160GB 16MB drive in it proper now and is excellent for transferring files (and carrying essential files). Not a serious bash on the item as it is relativity inexpensive. However right after a year plus of ownership and use the mini-USB receiver (female finish) that is solder to the conversion board (sata to USB) fell off from when I went to re-plug in the mini-USB cable. This problem I really feel could have been avoided on my portion as I have been carrying and storing the device the the USB cable attached. I was performing for the reality that I have several devices and cables (in 1 location/bag) and like to preserve them together. Also comfort of the cable plugged in created an impact on my choice. Order date: 10ታ񳏈 Issue dateᚩቸ񳏊 Overall this is a excellent small external enclosure for two.five sata drives and I will (and have) suggested it to other people. Just be positive to shop/carry the device with the included usb cable separately (ie. not connected). Thanks for reading!-ChevyManUSA (search the internet for more reviews)

I have no thought what people today could possibly be complaining about! Little, compact and inexpensive enclosure. Drive does not sit loose as there is a pressure resistant leaf spring in the bottom that holds it snug when the cap is bolted down, which by the way the holes lined up great and they tightened with no sign of stripping. Presently has no difficulty running a Seagate 7200 RPM 320 GB HD. Also using it with a single USB cable with no powering problems on either a laptop or desktop, even so the split USB cable supplied is a good touch. LED light operates as it must, stays lit to let you know it’s powered and flickers when data is being transferred/accessed. Would have no issue acquiring this unit once more, glad I went with this model. None. Could have rubber feet on the bottom, but that can be added.

detected instantly, no installation issues - the internal drive does not mount to the case, only held in by the SATA connection- the custom split usb cable is Necessary, will not function with out it, unlike a WD Passport, that uses the ubiquitous and normal mini usb cable

Quite THIN, compared to numerous many Quite a few 2.five enclosures or ready externals. Keeps drive cool.I got a Toshiba 120 gig 7200 drive for it. My macbook hdd is louder haha and its at 5400. But thats mostly from the hdd not the enclosure. Very likeable speeds ࿈ gigs in about 20 minutes) Y cable isn't really a con. I kept it handy just in case I run into older computers that wont be able to run it with out the second cable. Haven't had any difficulties with it yet. Soon as I got it in the mail, I opened it, opened the 24 dollar hdd I bought for it, put it all together and it worked perfectly.

+ Small and remarkably thin profile+ Basic to use and bare-bones (e.g. all you require, and absolutely nothing far more)+ Quite vibrant LED indicator light – Absolutely wouldn't absorb and protect from shock if dropped, though I don't believe any enclosure would. At such low cost, there's definitely absolutely nothing substantial to complain about this product. I employed the 80GB Toshiba difficult drive that came with my MacBook for this enclosure, and it fit perfectly. Some individuals had difficulties with the screws. I had totally no complications, but you have to consider the followingɅ) Use the right screwdriver. It's a extremely little Phillips head.2) Before tightening the screws, turn the screws counter-clockwise until you feel a "click," and then begin tightening slowly. This ensures you're correctly aligned with the threads.3) Don't over-tighten. You only want to screw it in until it stops, just sufficient so the piece isn't loose.

Nice packing in the box - significant foam blocks cradle the enclosure. Tiny, effectively-fit case; the endcaps fit snugly into the enclosure material. I like the screws - if you're cautious to thread them proper. They go in to the end of the case & right into the aluminum, as opposed to some other people I've utilised that have plastic bits or tiny hooks for them. These stay tight. As has been noted, drive is unsupported in the case and can bang about if handled roughly. See other thoughts for my approach to that difficulty. That light, too ... I took care of the "loose drive" problem by employing part of the foam sheet (not the full cradle, just a thin foam sheet in between the case & the cables) in the box. I cut thin strips (maybe 1 or two millimeters thick) off the lengthy end of the foam, then folded them about the end of the drive prior to inserting into the case. With a small care, they go correct in but still permit you to get the drive back out. Drive is solidly held in spot with a small cushion in case of accidental banging about. As to the light, I just turn the factor over ;-)

Nice and sturdy, using this with a Nintendo Wii, it appears to run just fine by plugging the major USB connector in the Y to the Wii or to my laptop. This gets decently warm, but I'm assuming that's a great thing, considering that it indicates heat is becoming efficiently dispersed from the actual drive. The holes for the screws are set back behind a ridge. Not a dilemma if you have a set of little screwdrivers on-hand, but I didn't at the time. Can't see why they would do that.

Cons:My model does not close correctly

Pros:Cheap, easy to use
Comment:
I bought this when my laptop broke, so I could still access my documents. It performed its function, but there was some problem with how the parts were machined, which prevented it from closing properly. I had to use a pair of elastic bands to keep it shut. Not sure if this was just my copy or if this is a pervasive design flaw. If I had known that this would be the case, I likely would have spent the extra few dollars for a more upscale model.
