it operates like it ought to. i read a few other folks saying that you need each usb from y cable to run a 5400rpm hdd? NOT True. i have a 5400rpm hdd in this baby and it runs fantastic. none so far good enclosure for a spare drive or your old ps3 drive

Nice low price for what you get. The drive consists of a small screwdriver so you don't have to hunt for the correct size tool to put in the teeny tiny screws that are used to hold the factor together. It seems to function well. The enclosure is a bit larger than needed for modern day drives and there is no internal structure to brace the drives, so the drives are sort of rattling around inside the enclosure. A plastic insert, rail, or even a couple of bits of foam to maintain the drive from rattling about would be nice. This is structurally identical to a different enclosure I've had for years, but with the name brand on the outside and with the added screwdriver. It works well, except for letting the drive rattle around inside. A tiny bit of foam would almost certainly fix that pretty quickly and if I use this for one drive permanently, that's how I'll deal with that difficulty.

Does as advertised. Straightforward Install, I have an older 7200rpm 론GB tough drive installed in the enclosure, and do not have to plug in second usb port for power. can there be any cons to a item this straightforward?

This item is nicely constructed. It was uncomplicated to open and install my WD 320GB 2.five" hard drive. The drive fits well inside the case. Decent speed for data transfer. None Great cost and rapid delivery from NewEgg.

- Excellent functionality- Only needs one of the USB y-cable inputs for 5400rpm Drives- No noisy fans- WHAT A Good DEAL The following gripes do not merit the loss of a star:- The rattle which is very easily fixed with a cardboard strip (see 'other thoughts')- The indicator LED and USB jack becoming on the similar side (normally USB is on back, LED is on front)- 1 of the USB cables on the Y-cable is Quite tight fitting. I never use it due to the fact I'm uncomfortable plugging it (jamming it) into my macbook. The drive 'rattles' in the enclosure mainly because this enclosure was produced to accommodate the bigger drives as properly. They could have included a spacer, but cardboard strip is simple enough.

This product is amazing and at a quite fantastic value. The case is extremely nice and it's really effortless to use. It's really even smaller than I thought it would be. None truly. I do see what men and women are talking about with the rattle but it's so minuscule that I wouldn't let that sway your opinion in purchasing this item at all. Personally if I had any 1 con it would be that I'd like it to be a snap open and snap close container rather than using screws but it's not that big of a deal. I utilised this with Arconis to clone my challenging drive for my laptop so that I could install a bigger hard drive. I had it completed in no time at all. I also discovered that it didn't truly demand the dual usb cord. I know the second one is for further power but it worked fine on a single usb cord.

Tiny, superior looking, rugged, easy drive installation. Quite high quality for this value level. Very same slight excess drive clearance, solved with little piece of folded cardboard. Measured (IR gun) case temperature throughout drive format operation peaked at 109.5 degrees F. Seems like black case does fairly good job of heat dissipation. Had no difficulty with case assembly.

Good Value for the dollars, excellent high quality should put a spacer between drive and case to avoid rattle, but not significantly of a challenge.

Merely does what you would expect. It's built solid, stays fairly cool, and holds my drive firmly in place. Although I uncover it to be adequate, I can realize if some people today think the included USB cable is a tad too brief I upgraded my wife's laptop to a SSD, so I converted her old drive to an external one for extra storage. This did the job just fine!

Good, solid enclosure. I purchased this to use to clone my old hard drive to my new laptop 1Tb drive. These drives are thicker than most laptop drives. ྫྷ.5mm vs 9.5mm. the 12.5mm drive will not fit in the case, nor are they advertised to. Nonetheless, you can plug the enclosure connector into it and run it with out the casing on it for the time it takes to clone the drive. Worked wonderful for that purpose. Am now working with it as a case for my old HDD. None!

It's incredibly affordable for a SATA HDD enclosure. It supports SATA 3.0Gbs. It looks nice, just plain black with a couple logos. In addition to the enclosure, you also get a USB cable, a protective slipcase (which I'll by no means use) and and a little screwdriver to support you assemble it. I dropped a drive in, connected it to my laptop, and I was off and running with no difficulties. The drive rattles inside the enclosure. No eSATA interface. For the cost although these are not deal-breakers. If you can assemble this drive, then you can fix the drive rattle. I employed some foam packaging and a bit of electrical tape, problem solved. I'd surely get far more of these.

The case fits like a charm, totally no trouble with plug-and-play on 3 different Windows machines (two XP desktops, one Vista laptop) and on Xbox 360. Wonderful top quality for the price, properly worth the funds. As others have mentioned, the drive will rattle in the enclosure, but only if you shake it, which you truly shouldn't be carrying out anyways. Common sense says don't throw your drive about like a pigskin. Whilst the enclosure comes with a Y-shaped dual USB A cable, a single mini USB to USB A cable need to perform just fine.

It's low-cost and it works great. Solid with good construct high quality. Comes with a small screwdriver for those who may possibly want it. I wish the USB cable was a bit longer. It's about 12" long, but when I plug it into my laptop that sits under my desk, I have to have the drive sitting on the floor. The cable isn't even long sufficient to let me sit the drive on top of the computer. For the price, I really have no complaints. I build a LOT of systems, and use this mostly to shop the software that I load onto those systems, rather of making use of a bunch of CD's and DVD's.

Item did not work . . . can not give evaluation. Gave 3 stars due to the fact Newegg handled return with no any difficulties. Attempted a different external enclosure and it function fantastic (see that assessment). Item did not work . . .. This from time to time happens . . . glad it did. I bought this enclosure to use to upgrade the difficult drive in my Lenovo S10-2 netbook. It was a easy "plug and play" set up with the new difficult drive. When connected to the Lenovo, it recognized it and I was in a position to image my old tough drive with no issues. Now I'm employing the old tough drive in it as a portable storage device. None so far. The construction is nice with an aluminum shell. I'm quite pleased with this enclosure. It's just too poor I didn't buy two when they were on sale.

I used this to take an out an old hard drive from a non functioning laptop. It works fine but lacks the esata option. It also requires two usb ports which is fine but you have to be smart about when to use it.

bought this enclosure for my friend that got a dead laptop to keep the hdd. Work great, it slim and seems to be hard.But didn't have a eSATA port for high speed transfert. For almost the same price, I prefer the Mukii Transimp TIP-230SU-BK 2.5IN SATA USB2.0 eSATA.

Like many folks, I own a bunch of two.5" HDD IDE enclosures... most are LOW GRADE plastic that appear fragile with cheap connectors... The Vantec Aluminum SATA enclosure I purchased from NEWEGG is Quite nicely performed and the SATA Pin-out block is of Surprising good quality... I'm hooked now... and again, like a lot of folks, I purchased a two.five" WD BLUE 500GB 7200RPM SATA (FROM NEWEGG) to be CLONED in the Enclosure... No Brainer... My Old Dell Laptop is stunningly rapidly now....Fantastic NEWEGG DEAL Of Course NONE It genuinely PAYS to home a two.five" HDD in a DECENT enclosure.. specially when it's a Quick SATA drive...

Needed a inexpensive enclosure to recover data off an old Macbook Pro with a failed logic board. Machine would not boot to target disk mode to permit information transfer/recovery by way of firewire in migration assistant. Pulled the Hitachi drive out of the old machine and slipped it into the enclosure. New Macbook Pro instantly recognized the difficult drive as an external disk. I was able to manually choose the disk in migration assistant and recover just as effortlessly as a firewire transfer. The supplied screwdriver is a bit too little. Not even actually a con as you could make it perform if you had to, but I utilised one a tad larger to make issues simpler. Works as necessary and the construction top quality truly impressed me for the cost... even the packaging was nice. A bargain for a basic SATA/USB two. enclosure, no want to pay a lot more for something else.

Inexpensive, basically needed an enclosure to hook up a 160GB drive from a dead netbook. Works perfectly, even employed it for testing other mobile drives for troubles. Aluminum casing keeps the drives cool. The drives do fit a bit loosely, but a little bit of soft, non-conductive material (like tissue) stops them from moving. Very uncomplicated & speedy setup, Just a couple screws is all. Stays incredibly cool, even below a decent load! Not a big deal, but just be conscious it does not have an on/off switch. If it is plugged in, it is going. For most factors this does not matter, but if you would WANT to be able to turn it off without having really unplugging it - no such luck.

Aluminum Casing, sturdy construction, and easy to assemble. I have bought two other low priced, no named External Challenging drive circumstances for a two.5" drive, and so far this 1 is my preferred. I also own a Vantec Nextar three.5" external tough drive case which I have had for three+ years, and it too is nonetheless working good. None. I very advocate this drive to any person who wants a quality two.5" case. If it expenses a bit a lot more than the other brands, who cares, it is worth each penny!

A lot smaller than I thought it would be. Snapped right together with an old HP laptop hard drive. Plugged in and fired appropriate up. None that I can see. It was essentially harder to tear the hard drive out of the little metal caddy than it was to install in the case.
