Decent price tag. Defective. Wouldn't keep an OS for far more than a day or two with no crashing. Hoping I just got a bad one, waiting on a replacement.

Okay, installed this drive in my 3 year old Dell Optiplex 620 cuz the old drive was acquiring a mite crowded, though nonetheless working. I had planned on upgrading my RAM from 2gb to four but due to the fact of the Caviar's dual processor, I notice a really serious improvement in my Pc's efficiency from the h/d upgrade alone. Skipping the RAM upgrade and saving $$. Very recommended. Unless this puppy fails prematurely, none. Get this!

Nevertheless rapidly right after two years Finding a tiny bit louder Comming up on the 2 year anniversary of this purchase and I'm ultimately obtaining around to writing the assessment. Its' operating just as excellent as day 1. It is a small bit louder now (it was totally silent in the starting), but efficiency has not suffered.I get about 94MB/s study speed making use of HDTUNE and AMD 750 southbridge

What's not to really like about this drive? It's rapidly. Very quickly. Very quickly x-fer rate from one drive to an additional. I transfered over 100gb of backup in 20 minutes. All my windows open with no lag. I'm thinking of replacing my backup drive with one more WD black. It got here a day later than it was supposed to, but I did order it around x-mas time, so it's to be anticipated. In addition to, it's cost-free shipping. If I payed for shipping, I may well have cared. Practically nothing wrong with the drive although. I've generally been a fan of WD, and this is my first black series. I'm not going to purchase something else but black from now on.

I employed to have Windows 7 installed on a 1 TB WD Green drive. Soon after I did additional analysis, I figured out that green was low performance. A whilst later, I started out to get constant Blue Screens. Right after figuring out it was the page file and it could not read or write quickly sufficient, I decided to get a 500 GB Black edition challenging drive from Western Digital. Rapid RPM, quick boot time, good performance. I definitely love this tough drive! Western Digital by no means fails! None. Every little thing is fantastic! I advise this drive for gaming computer systems.

I usually have a high regard for WD HDDs. I have bought many from Newegg. Shipping is very rapidly at least for neighborhood consumers. Usually just overnight. I'm really a fan of Newegg and look for offers when I'm in need to have of one thing. I purchased this WD HDD a handful of months ago and not too long ago it started to make rattling sounds. At instances, my technique would shut down and reboot which may have absolutely nothing to do with this drive but it seems suspect since of the noise it tends to make. Rather than invoke the 5 yr warranty and use WD's upgrade present, I bought an equivalent new one particular for about the very same price tag as it carries its own new warranty period.

This bad boy is more rapidly than my old Western Digital Caviar Blue (IDE). Installs and launches every thing quickly. A little loud at times, but absolutely nothing to make a large deal more than. Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit rates it a five.9.

5 year warranty. Dependability. Everyone can get a DOA drive in the mail, but I figure most of those could be connected to how it was handled in shipping...these ARE the mechanical equivalent of eggs. (no pun intended).I have bought close to 100 drives in my time, and have had the occasional DOA drive from all manufactures but in my opinion Western Digital Black drives have the very best track record bar none. In the occasion you DO get a bum drive, RMA is speedy and effortless...hassle cost-free. Would be nice if costs were a lot more inline with other producers. It seems these day, WD is only pushing their green drives, value wise. I would not reccomend a green drive to my worst enemy, as they ARE the nick in the WD armor....and a big nick at that. ALL drives CAN fail....stick with the finest warranty. To date I have personally in no way had a WD Black drive fail.

Decent transfer speed; performed as expected. Died pretty much specifically 1 year after deployment. I expected better from a Caviar Black drive. Though I have numerous drives from WD that have had no related problems, unexpectedly I've had the best luck with Samsung drives--zero failed drives ever. Instead of going via the hassle and expense of shipping it back, back to somewhere where my data could be lifted devoid of all that substantially difficulty, I'm just going to purchase a new 1. So a lot for warranty.

Western Digital has generally produced high quality drives BUT some thing has changed. Ordered two 500 Gig Caviar Blacks for a RAID1 setup in 1 of my workplace computers. This technique is mission important and requires top top quality elements, hence the WD Blacks. The drives getting replaced had been older WD's and have in no way had a bit of issue with them. Once installed in the array, Windows 7 took nearly an hour to install, almost 2X as extended as ususal. Within minutes the first drive began reporting errors and dropped from the array. Tried to reformat 4X with no luck. Removed the drive and tried to install Win7 on the second drive. Windows DID install but by the time Windows Update had completed with all the required updates, the second drive was getting a number of poor sectors and R/W errors. Finally it died following five hours total use. Tried to reformat, formatting course of action died in at 32%, drive will NOT recover. I've used and built computers since the TRaSh 80 days. I've Usually employed either WD or Segate drives in all my builds and have Never had a difficulty with any of them. This was a new encounter and 1 I hope was just a statistical anomaly. I checked the case power supply, all within acceptable norms, I checked the cords and cables to the drives, worked perfectly with other drives, and checked for excess heat in the case, in no way got above 90F. All I can say is WD wants to check top quality control a small additional meticulously in the future. I have RMA'd each drives for a replacement but in the mean time will be utilizing some locally bought Segate drives to finish this upgrade. Do your self a favor, get the boxed version of these drives, not OEM. Don't know if that's the dilemma but a handful of bucks much more could make the difference.

That I got about 6-7 days at least. It's dead inside a week. So I go to bed, let Steam finish downloading some games overnight, and when I wake up, I'm on that BIOS screen, where in the course of begin up you can press Tab (or whatever it may well be for you) to list program facts, and at the bottom it says one thing along the lines of SATA 3 not detected or error or whatever. So I replace the SATA cords, power cord, move it to a new SATA spot on my mother board, and nothing works. Now it just goes to a, "Please Reboot or Insert Media Device" (something like that) screen. I'm extremely disappointed in this item. I was hoping it last a year at least, but 7 days? That's just awful.

Quickly information transfer speeds, nice and quiet, doesn't use that much power, wonderful gb per $ at the time of buy. Zero! Running just this 1 HDD to replace my other "drive" which failed after two years, the WD is so significantly better. Have it partitioned into 100gb for program programs/start up and 400gb for gaming. I may possibly have to purchase yet another one soon!!

Quick and quiet. I often buy Western Digital and have not recieved a DOA but. I've never had one die on me either. I ordinarily use them for about 5 years and give the computers to Fantastic Will when I'm completed (after wiping the challenging drives). I've built numerous computers for friends and relatives and I always use WD with the same excellent results. I use WD 7200 RPM challenging drives on 3 laptops and they make anything operate faster than the OEM difficult drives. They don't use any much more battery than the OEMs did and they make about the exact same noise levels. None This develop was for my brother and I bought an identical hard drive to make a personal computer for my step mother. They both perform great. Recently purchased a OCZ SSD for my desktop and it is amazingly rapidly. It performs greater than two 7200 rpm SATA drives in raid and about the exact same as two 10000 rpm Raptors in raid.

Operates nicely, decently rapid. None, its a difficult drive. I have had this drive for over two years now. It is my most important drive with my OS on it. It functions incredibly nicely and I can't complain. The only factor I have to say is... to those who give the difficult drive low eggs (or anything for that matter) because it fail swiftly or you got a DOA, this could be shipping problems. Shippers are not usually the nicest with your stuff. This is what warranties are for.

My WD drives have lasted longer than any other people i have and when they finally started to show signs of failure i received an upgrade instead of a replacement within only two days following i sent the rma. To say the least Very IMPRESSED and will always stick with WD.

Wonderful tough drive at the suitable price tag. This HD is twice as quick as my 3 year old WD drives that I own. I managed to get 80MB/s steady even though transferring Crysis Warhead from my other Pc over gigabit ethernet that also has an SSD. Still cannot get more than 5.9 in WEI! Get two in RAID and you'll have a good speed enhance with out more than paying.

I have purchased 4 of these all through the last year or so and failure rate so far. Really quiet drives compared to my 600 GB Velociraptor which will let you know its busy. 3 of these drives are in Rosewill external enclosures (Rosewill RX-358-S BLK ) and no complications whatsoever. No USB adaptor to use as enormous thumb drive! Have turned on pals to these drives and they too enjoy them.
