I own two of WDC drives of this distinct model and a lot of other caviar blacks and raptors. They have been operating OK for years in numerous Pc/Server, single and RAID environments. Up till this buy I did not have any concerns with WDC drives. I guess everyone's luck finally runs out... ... This one died following a week in the 3ware RAID array. I am conscious of the WDC suggestion not to use something other that RE drives in the array. Even so, this was not a Deep Recovery cycle (or if it was it is too deep). The drive powers up, makes a couple of "schick schick schick" sounds and powers itself down. I suspect some mechanical failure. WDC has advanced warranty replacement service when they send you the drive 1st, and you send yours inside 30 days. That is what I am working with right now. You have to pay shipping, however. WDC can discover a thing or two from Apple - they cover shipping of items under warranty. Oh properly...

Quickly drives when configured in Raid . Faster than alot of the less expensive SSD's and you get 931GB's of storage following format , working with 2 in Raid on Windows 7 ultimate 64bit .Windows 7 ultimate 64bit screams with these in Raid ,load occasions are blazing quickly and just tooling around in Windows programs like Windows Live Mail 2011 and Net explorer and Adobe open immediately! When running Raid with two of these , they blow to of the F3's out of the water !When they start out promoting SSD' that can supply far more than 210-220mb/s sustained reads with near 300mb/s burst that are 1.TB in size for the price of two of these , I may possibly think about switching to SSD . But until then I'm sticking with thes

I've owned this drive for two years and one month now. Superior drive overall. It's receiving to be a bit on the slow side now.. could be because I've had it for a couple of years.

N/A Wise Errors appropriate out of the box. RMA'd to Newegg, waiting on new drive. Been making use of Western Digital because ྞ and this is the 1st erroneous one ever. Hope this isn't a sign of decline.... Well they can't all be winners, can they?

warranty, reputation. Not the quietest. They perform wonderful, however I would not buy again soon after discovering SSD's.If I would have identified then, what I know now, I never ever would have purchased them.

Generally a rapid performing drive. DOA... RMA drive received, but not tested yet. Will test this weekend. This is the second WD Black drive I have ordered and was DOA. I also had 1 just more than a year old die. I might be switching back to Seagate. I never had this numerous problems with Seagate.

None now it failed, lucky Windows 7 warned me in enough time to recover my pictures Failed immediately after little over 2 months 鳖 hours)Very disappointed that the replacement drive from Western Digital was Recertified drive, may understand if the drive was year old, but just couple months must have been new challenging drive replacement. Drive makers will need to spend more time generating tough drives much more dependable instead of worrying about how they are going to squeeze more space onto difficult drive.

Bought this to use as a mirror backup for an existing identical drive in my method which itself replaced an older version Hitachi drive. When I installed this drive in my system about 1 year ago, I immediately notice substantially faster, almost double, the speed in read and writes. None ์ well spent to increase laptop or computer use satisfaction factor. Amazed that they can produce such an intricate device/technology for such low cost.

Was the only HDD in my laptop or computer for some time ƒ yrs). Began with Vista 64 and now Windows 7 64 bit. Runs quiet and never had any troubles. Running on a Foxconn MOBO with a AMD CPU. I've in no way thought twice about it, just does its job like a great small HDD. None Plugged it in and haven't had to be concerned about it since. Isn't that what we all want for our hard earned money?

These hard drives are built to last. I bought the 500gb model for a buddies rig, and I myself own two of the 640gb model. I have them set up in raid0 and they are incredibly fast. Cost. When i purchased mine they were discounted. but at retail they are a bit high-priced compared to the competition. but you get what you pay for. If you cant make a decision to acquire this, or the samsung spinpoint, definately go with westerdigital. Samsung is the absolute worse hdd manufactuer EVER. Sure the spinpoint is a bit faster then the caviar black, but it wont last any where near as lengthy, and it is not suited for multithreaded enviroments.

Very Quick HDD 100+ Mb's a Sec no knocks so far Extremely Happy Vista did not like the Reality that i put one more 500Gb tricky drive in my laptop or computer and it did not autodect it so i have to do it by hand i might buy a different perhaps just possibly...

Have utilized these drives in past builds wirh no problem. This 1 developed bad sectors a couple of weeks following install. Returned to WD for replacement. They sent me a 750 gb "Black" which (so far0 works great.

I picked 2 of these drives up for about 55 bucks on sale, and for the price and quality that this drive delivers, its well worth it.I used them both to replace my mirror, and noticed a significant improvement over my old seagate mirror I had installed.Best drive I have bought, keeping in mind I have yet to buy a SSD.

I bought two more because my older 500 GB WD black died on me 5 days after the warranty was up. Having said that, I've put the old drive through hell and it has served me well. I don't recommend any other drive then WDs black drives and with a 5 year warranty, rest assure that in 5 years you will have moved onto ssd drives at this size.
